A fantastic book Contemporary, Austin, Texas Dr. Jolene “Jo” Granger is a psychologist that has agreed to hear the dying confession of serial killer Harvey Lee Smith, though she knows better than to let that monster into her head and has vowed to keep him out. Harvey has secrets that he is ready to share about victims whose bodies were never found and about an apprentice that is continuing Harvey’s grisly work. Harvey’s apprentice buries his victims alive just like Harvey did, relishing their screams as the earth comes down on top of them. Harvey’s apprentice is determined to give Harvey, the only father he ever knew, one final gift, the most perfect kill of all. Everything about this case is unnerving Jo. From Harvey’s obsession with her to the fact she is now working alongside her ex-husband Texas Ranger, Brody Winchester. Harvey’s apprentice is growing bolder every day and more vicious. The trail of graves is leading them to a place no one expects and to a very terrifying truth. This is one story that will take you on a psychological ride that is sure to mess with reader’s minds. The story pulls the reader into the story and doesn’t let go until the very last page. With all the twist and turns and suspects that show up in the story it is sure to keep readers guessing until the final showdown. For readers that love psychological thrillers this is one not to miss.

This book is not for the weak at heart. A killer who is burying women alive. A Ranger reconnecting with his ex wife. They are trying to stop a serial killer while falling in love again. 284 pages of suspense and I was surprised a little at the end.

Reviewed by Samantha Rivera for Readers' Favorite A killer has finally been caught in Austin, Texas, but his legacy will live on. Harvey Smith terrorized women for a long time but a little slip-up landed him behind bars to await the needle. But Harvey isn’t going to go down without a fight and his apprentice definitely isn’t willing to give up so quickly. It’s up to Dr. Jo Granger, a psychologist, and her ex-husband, Texas Ranger Brody Winchester, to sort out the truth from the lies of Harvey’s final confession and to discover the true identity of the long-lost apprentice in No Escape by Mary Burton. I’ve been exploring more and more thriller novels lately and this one I just couldn’t pass up. The story line sounded interesting and as soon as I started reading it, I knew I’d made a great choice. I actually finished this book in one day because it was just that interesting to me. Jo and Brody have a great relationship and chemistry that continues to brew throughout the book. The chaos that occurs around them will definitely captivate you as well. I was kept guessing the entire time as twists and turns and all sorts of crazy events happened. When the killer was unveiled, I was completely shocked. No Escape by Mary Burton is definitely an interesting novel and I would be very excited to read more of her books in the same genre. If you’re a thriller fan you definitely won’t be disappointed with this book.

This book is as wonderful as all of her other books. There are many surprise twists and turns in this book that I loved. I always read Mary Burton books, and No Escape did not disappoint me. This is definitely a psychological thriller that held my attention until the last page.

Once you start reading this story you will find it difficult to put the book down unless you have read it all. I have read 3 books in a row all written by Mary Burton. She is a great narrator. Edward van Aartsen, Florence, OR, 97439

Books 2 of this series was just as thrilling as the first book. Jo and Brody are characters that have sparks flying from the start but the unexpected serial killer changes everything. Edge of your seat story with some very unexpected twists which made it very hard to put down.

The free sample sounded as though this was a good book. It turned out to be corny and predictable. It read like a Harlequin Romance. Big waste of money.

On the surface, No Escape would appear to be the standard “catch the serial killer” romantic suspense novel.   But it soon becomes evident that there’s more than one twist.  The serial killer has a protege.   The hero cop, Texas Ranger Brody Winchester,  is forced to re-connect with psychologist Dr. Jolene Granger, his ex-wife.   No that’s just the beginning!    I’m giving away no spoilers...but this romantic suspense ventures into uncharted territory.   Much angst - but it definitely keeps the pages turning.

This book was an enjoyable read for me. I enjoyed the twists and turns, and unlike so many mysteries that I read, No Escape held my interest to the very end. Being a Texan and having lived in Austin myself, may have swayed my view; however, I think that it's still a "good read."

Think this may have been my first book by this author but it won't be the last. Kept my attention and had to make myself put the book down since I had to go to work the next day.

My rating: 4.5 of 5 ¿¿ Texas Ranger, Brody Winchester, had been successful years ago in putting serial killer Harvey Day Smith behind bars, but had never been able to find out where the last three of his thirteen victims had been buried. So when he heard Smith was dying of cancer and had indicated he wanted to talk, he could not have been more surprised. Except when he found out the killer had requested a specific confessor; Dr. Jo Granger, with whom Brody had some history. Occasionally called upon for a consult, Psychologist Jo Granger didn't find it unusual to get a surprise visit from a Texas Ranger, but she never thought she would see the ex-husband she hadn't seen in 14 years. Nothing if not professional, she agrees to cooperate in the last ditch effort to find out where Harvey Smith left his last three victims, but that is not the only secret Smith parts with.  Harvey Smith enjoys toying with his counterparts' heads and has hand picked Dr. Granger for that reason specifically it seems. After suggesting his death might not mean the end of the killing, since he trained his apprentice well, and a new body has been found, the investigation has suddenly turned active once again. Except this time, it seems that Jo has a connection with the victims. Trying hard to work past their painful history, Brody and Jo find themselves drawing closer together in their attempts to find this elusive apprentice before he strikes again. And when the threat turns on Jo and her family, Brody is in a race to keep the woman it turns out he still loves alive. **** Holy CHILLS!!! What a deliciously spine-shivering suspense this is!! I love Mary Burton's books, she really has the evil and warped mind pegged. I love the back story here as well, a little bit of a poignant romantic history between the protagonists to give us some potential spark and heat, as well as an intricately woven plot with a shocking outcome. A capable and multi-faceted Jo, presents as strong and professional, but hides a lingering insecurity that reaches far back into childhood. Something that can become a weak spot when detected. Protective and responsible, Brody has one huge regret in life, for which he finally has an opportunity to apologize. Not enough, he sets out to prove the true intent behind his words. Shocking family revelations give this story an additional dimension to pull it from the dark into the disturbing realm, and make for an intense read. But the red thread of a rekindled romance in the background gentles the harshest edges. ¿A creepy and bone-chilling romantic thriller.¿ **ARC courtesy of NetGalley and Zebra Books in return for an honest review.**
