Nocturnes (Hard Rock Harlots Series #3) by Kendall Grey

Book 3 in the Hard Rock Harlots series

NOCTURNES contains 511 F-bombs, 81 well-endowed male chickens, 65 girl kitties, 58 Richard the Lessers, 10 C-U-Next-Tuesdays, and a plethora of other colorful words and phrases that would deafen your virginal mother's ears and make her bust out her "Shame on you!" finger. If you've been tuned in since the beginning of the Hard Rock Harlots series, you know the drill. The sex is extreme, the language is graphic, and the story is over the top. Prudes and under 18s need not apply.

WARNING: NOCTURNES addresses serious topics such as alcoholism, prostitution, and cheating. If you're looking for a barrel of laughs or sunshine and rainbows, this is NOT the book for you.

Rax Wrathbone is the dirty rock star you love to hate. The filthy fantasy slithering through your bed sheets. The serpent in your lady garden. The snake bite in your panties that keeps you sweating all night. He. Is. Sex.

And he's no good. For anyone.

After a nasty breakup with his best friend and their band's drummer, Rax is flying solo for the first time in years. Who needs the drama of commitment when the line for your humping booth spans three city blocks? No, groupies and liquor are far finer company than relationships, and they don't leave bruises after they've had their way with you. At least not lasting ones.

Rax's new adventures as an alcoholic, guitar-slashing one-man show are going along swimmingly until the only woman who's ever brought him to his knees shimmies down a pole back into his life. Eve doesn't abide excessive drinking, she has sex with strangers for a living, and she can't remember Rax's name to save her life.

She's perfect in every way.

Now, if he could just get sober long enough to forget his past and convince Eve he's worthy of her future...

Nocturnes by Kendall Grey 5 Stars Good God do I love the way Kendall Grey tells a story. She can polish a turd and make it look like a chocolate diamond. By turd, I mean a genre of book that I normally wouldn’t touch unless my life depended on it. I’d rather read about someone get their throat torn out than about them falling in love. I’m glad I’ve made the exception for Kendall’s books. Nocturnes is a story of love hidden beneath the rough exterior of non-conventional lifestyles of the two main characters, Rax and Eve. He’s an alcoholic rock star with issues, and she’s a prostitute with the proverbial “heart of gold”. They are both so messed up in the head they are perfect for each other. Rax shows the reader a vulnerability that we haven’t seen before, in his belief that he doesn’t deserve to be loved, and that he’s too messed up for a relationship. It was nice to see him actually show some sort of emotion beyond just trying to get laid. Believe it or not, he actually has a heart! He is more than just the jerk we read about in Strings and Beats. Eve (AKA Lola!) has spent her life trying to achieve something that would make her dead parents happy. She has convinced herself that how she achieves her goals isn’t nearly as important as actually achieving them. She’s a stripper and prostitute on the side. She thinks that if she can just keep in business long enough, she will be able to afford to leave the lifestyle and achieve her dream of living in the Garden District of New Orleans. I’m not sure what she planned on doing once she moved there, but I’m ok with that. Nocturnes contains the dirtiest but also some of the sweetest sex scenes I’ve ever read, and if you have read the rest of the series, you know this isn’t a new thing. Kendall Grey has done a wonderful job of showing us every side and aspect to the dirty world of prostitution and celebrity life. It may be sparkly and pretty outside, but inside it’s pretty nasty and reminds me of some of the sick bastards that are out there pretending to be good husbands. Just like in Strings and Beats, underneath all of the crazy sex is an actual plot line that follows the relationship between Rax and Eve. As it grows and changes, and becomes something potentially beautiful. I looooooved the last quarter of this book the most. When Killer Buzz Float returns to New Orleans, their final performance was just magical. I loved the references to Grey’s other series, “Just Breathe”. I would recommend this book to anyone who isn’t afraid of their own sexuality or that of others. Her whole Hard Rock Harlots series explores different sexual ideas and concepts that, as someone who is quite shy, may not have thought possible or that people actually do!

Holy Mother of………… What the f*** did I just read?  Pure f***ing geniusness (that’s totally not a word but I don’t f***ing care), that’s what this book is. That’s what this whole series is. That’s what Kendall Grey’s writing, mind and creativity is. On top of that it is f***ing brilliant and addicting.  I knew Rax would be a tough one. He broke my heart. I got all the feels for this guy that you want to hate so bad but just can’t. It was so hard to dislike him. I wasn’t sold on Eve in the beginning. She was just way too conceited for my taste. But f*** if these two don’t grow on you and thaw your heart a little.  I’m so ruined. Kendall Grey has ruined me. Good luck finding another read that will have you turned on, horny as f*** and within the span of minutes you’re either laughing your a** off or crying. Yes, I cried! Don’t judge me. Rax just does things to me. He totally tugged at my heart strings with his spiraling ways. I just wanted to comfort him and let him have his wicked, wicked, kinky f***ing way with me so that he wouldn’t hit rock bottom. Cause f*** that hurt my heart when he did.  An absolutely amazing story, series, and set of characters that will no doubt stay with me forever. I don’t think I will ever get enough of these characters. I will forever crave more raunchiness, more kink, more Killer Buzz Float!!!

OMFG!! What do I think?? This series had me puckering and imagining and mentally thinking I need to spice things up!! lol I have to say Rax was someone who I hated since the beginning...He gave me hope a couple of times but hated him. This last book just put everything in place for me. Addiction is a major problem and to not realize you have a! Something so tragic needed to happen for Rax to get the picture but at the end he became this beautiful soul.

Nocturnes is the delicious icing to this beautiful cake that is The Hard Rock Harlots series. I described Strings as tongue in cheek raunchy and thoroughly entertaining and I described Beats as Strings with emotion. Nocturnes is all the emotion of Beats with a side of sass from Strings and a dash of beautiful character transformation. Rax went from the guy you love to hate to the guy you hate to admit you now love, but you cannot help wanting to gobble him up and fall in love with the bad boy of Killer Buzz Float and his journey. Again this book came with a warning and it is not to be taken lightly. I will admit I had to Google a scene to see if it was physically possible. Yup possible, but Woah. Shocking for sure, but that paled in comparison to the rest of the story. Rax is a complex soul and Lola/Eve was the key to opening up the darkest chamber in his heart. It took an angel from "Heaven" (stuck in her own hell) to rescue Rax from the bottom of a bottle and his inner demons. I also loved touching base with all of the characters and seeing them come together full circle as a unit. The series was original, raw, entertaining, shockingly filthy and I loved every word of it.

Book three in this insane saga (and I mean that in a good way...) was probably my least favorite and it's still getting 4 stars! So you can only imagine how good I think these stories are. If it hadn't been for the fact that I think that Rax is a total douche then I would have loved this book as much as the others! Kendall Grey is a totally twisted individual with a ginormous sense of humor. The situations that would mortify most of the planet's population, she manages to make endearing and fun to experience – even if it’s only while reading this over the top book! All in all, this series seriously rocks!

The long-awaited installment with Rax’s story has arrived.  You should know that the Hard Rock Harlots series is dirty: utterly and completely dirty with plenty of unique combinations of words, sexual positions and partners, with a solid overtone of tongue in cheek.   Kendall Grey has brought us the saga (and it is better and hotter than any telenovela) of two rock bands on the road: one all girls, one all boys and the competition, consummation and continual personality clashes that happen in their lives.   I’ve read all 3 in this series, and was waiting to see just how Grey would manage to add a touch of human to Rax: she accomplished it with flair for Letty and Toombs, but of all of the issues that Rax has that are as yet unresolved, I wondered if it was possible.   Much to my relief, while this book has several moments that will have you scratching your head and squirming, not always in delight, the blunt and detailed descriptions and conversations with, about and around him do serve to provide some understanding, even if you have to reach deep to find the empathy or compassion.  Grey has a unique prose style that manages to combine words, profane and not, in ways that present the reader with the sense that this is pure fiction: enjoyable and utterly over-exaggerated for your enjoyment.  Fast paced yet presenting a complete feel for the scene, characters and events, readers will be best served by reading this series in order.  But, be warned, the language and activities are not candy-coated or sweet: profanities, positions to rival the Karma Sutra and a series of blunt-speaking characters who know each other intimately all combine to make this a non-stop fun read, not a serious one. I received an eBook from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: al conclusions are my own responsibility.

I rate this book 5 incredibly kinky stars!!!!! Kendall Grey, you have rocked my world with this series. I have never read anything else like it! I love her in your face, no holds barred, raunchy style! When I think erotica…this is it at its finest!! Braxton Rathbone, otherwise known as, Rax Wrathbone, is a gorgeous rockstar, and he knows it! He is used to having all the ladies he wants, and the man he always loved but never showed it, his bandmate,Toombs. In Beats, Toombs and their drummer, Jinx, found love, and Rax was outted for his cheating ways, Rax tried to manipulate Jinx into spending on night with him, Toombs found out, and he beat Rax's ass! Rax resorted to alcohol to function. His heart was broken, and the only woman, besides Jinx, that he could have ever saw himself with, was a stripper named Lola, aka Eve! Imagine, Rax's luck, when he found the stripper he thought he'd never see again in the town where Killer Buzz Float was producing their new album! The best part about their reunion was…He filmed her in a foursome, while three guys….YES THREE GUYS …were triple teaming her in the ass!!! BEST RAUNCHIEST SEX SCENE EVER!!! Now don't get me wrong, this is not a straight up "mommy porn" book. Underneath the kinky, incredible sex scenes, there is a deep emotional connection between Rax and Eve. Their relationship, and their individual emotional scars, take you thru the ringer!! You can truly connect with why they both are the way they are, and do the things they do! The ending couldn't have been better!! Kendall, you out did yourself!!! If you haven't had a chance to pic up any of Kendall's books yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!!!

The true story of how only two damaged souls can save each other. This books takes you to the heart of Rax when he finds his damaged Eve. Her story is so tragic and only a man like Rax can truly see her and give the love and respect they mutually deserve.

WOW! I thought I loved Strings, knew I loved Beats, but was completely leveled by Nocturnes. No one tells a dirty sex story like Kendall Grey!!! Rax is still torn up over his break up with Toombs and being forced to spend time in the vicinity of him and Jinx is doing his head in. If Rax is sober five minutes, that is five minutes too long for him. Drowning his sorrows and looking for his next fix, he stumbles into Nocturnes in New Orleans and runs right into the one woman that has never left his mind and who he thought he'd never see again.....Lola.  I absolutely loved this book and how these two broken people help ease each other's pain in a way that is nothing mushy and all kinky. Lol! No, really, this was a great book as anyone that read Strings and Beats should have come to expect from Kendall and it would be a complete lie if I said I want more and gave this a five star and two thumbs up recommendation. READ IT! But only if you don't mind lots of dirty and a bunch of anal.....

For this one, I'm doing a combined review for all three in the series - Strings, Beats, and Nocturnes. I downed these three books in the space of 3 1/2 days! Once I started I couldn't stop! I am a bit ashamed to say it took me so flipping long to get started with the series, but honestly, I'm glad I waited so I could read them all in one go. Fair warning- READ the warning of the synopsis for each first! Not kidding, these may not be your cup of tea. Go in with open eyes. With that said, I loved them! They are raunchy, they push the limits and may stretch your boundaries. There's so much to each story that goes beyond the naughty bits into finding acceptance and love, not giving up on your dreams, and finding that other half that may be broken like you but makes you both whole when two broken pieces come together. I loved the weaving in of the musical aspect into that which each character of the books is experiencing. The writing was intoxicating. I found myself completely involved in the stories of Shades and Letty, Toombs and Jinx, Rax and Eve. It seemed like each one was just that much better than the last. There's lots of laughs, a ton of sex, and some very sweet and heart-wrenching moments. Kendall Grey is an extremely talented writer who can paint a picture with words and draw out both huge highs and deep lows on an emotional roller coaster ride that her characters experience. And man does she make me want to be a groupie for Killer Buzz Float so I can stay with the group a little longer. And somehow, in the end, Kendall made me fall in love with Rax...smh...didn't think it was possible! I loved this series and will definitely be reading more from Kendall Grey!

Nocturnes is definitely my favorite book in the Hard Rock Harlots series.  It is definitely more in my wheel house than the other too.  Lots of angst and darkness.  Still hot sex but not quite in the same vein as the first two books.  If you haven't read Beats and are planning to I'd skip this review, because it will contain minor spoilers for that book. Eve/Lola has had a seriously rough life.  My heart broke for her when I heard her story.  Knowing about her past and why she is doing what she is doing makes everything that has to do with this story that much more gut wrenching.  She is really just a sad little girl trying to fulfill a promise she had made so long ago. Rax is a freaking mess, there is really no other way to put it.  He is definitely spiraling for the great majority of this book.  He is battling some pretty severe alcoholism, sex addiction, and a huge broken heart.  Me heart went out to him.  He comes across as a huge ass, but underneath was some pretty severe pain. Nocturnes is far more about the journey that the characters are taking than the sex that they are having, in relation to the first two books in the series.  There was still plenty of hot sex though, so don't think that it is lacking in any way!!  Nocturnes is a drama-palooza.  I absolutely loved it.  Where there was a ton of humor in Strings, and a nice interspersing of humor in Beats, there is almost none in Nocturnes, which is exactly how I like a book. There were certain instances in this book that some people will be greatly offended by.  Unfortunately these are also things that come with the career path that Eve has chosen.  In each of those scenes I wanted nothing more than to rip the poor thing from the pages and hold her until she was better.  I don't know how anyone couldn't want to do that for her, especially when they consider the circumstances that have led her to those activities. Nocturnes is definitely not for the faint of heart.  There is some pretty heavy subject matter, some pretty intense sex scenes, and a boat load of issues contained within those pages.  This story could not have been told any better though.  I felt every second of pain, every ounce of remorse, everything.  It was beautiful.  And the ending was a beautiful point of closure for Rax and Eve, I loved it.  Even the Letty-ness. Nocturnes is definitely not for everyone.  But, I will guarantee you that if you like darkness in your literature, or if you appreciate some hard core smut, or if you are just looking for something that is going to push your boundaries, you will not be disappointed.

Kendall Grey doesn't disappoint in this latest installment. Over the last few books, I both loved and hated Rax, but ultimately wanted him to be happy. This book packs a powerful punch full of raunchy sex scenes guaranteed to leave your jaw on the floor wondering - did that just happen? - and raw open heartfelt romance for the softer side of our wounded rocker. I loved this book! Well done!
