** ARC sent by author in exchange for an honest review ** The cover gets a huuuge thumbs up from me! makes me drool a little bit every time I see it! I started reading this book and literally had to double check that I was reading what I imagined it would be because what was unfolding before my eyes, didn't read like I thought it would. Here's me thinking it was a contemporary, steamy novel..... nooooo!! We've got to add a murderer on the loose hell bent on killing our PERT and a white, swishy skirted ghost! that's right, a ghost! I was completely not expecting it and felt scared... physically. I'm becoming a wimp as I get old! Alicia has recently moved to Riley, SC. Her morning routine consists of waking up, getting a coffee and watching her neighbor through the bathroom windows while he gets in and out of the shower! TBH, I don't blame her! Liam is the Officer next door. A PERT Officer at Riley's Jail, struggling to get his hard on in check after watching Alicia's silhouette through her bedroom blind at night!  Fate may have had a hand in getting these two together and although it's touch and go for a while, they manage to get through it. And, for a change it's not the main characters who can't seem to get it together it's the fact that one of the Levison brother's is on the lose and terrorizing the neighborhood, after he and his brother escaped from the broken down bus on the way to prison. Since the moment he got free, he's killed three officers and a nurse, Riley isn't safe and neither is living in the woods... like Alicia and Liam! Perfect excuse to ask the woman you're fantasizing over to move in! Things between these two realistically, go smoothly. Things are moving along nicely... It's just the fact that it looks like Liam is the target for the escaped convict.  Thankfully, everything works out for these two, but like i said, it was touch and go.... from how the fire was described, I didn't think anyone would make it out.

This is a new series from Ranae Rose.  The Lock and Key series is located in Riley County, North Carolina which I love as well I am from North Carolina. The main characters Liam and Alicia are just great for each other, they both are guilty of being peeping tom's, sizing up each other's assets so to say. Alicia is accident prone and ends up falling into Liam more than once. She is a city girl who is new to the area and works at a "haunted" plantation where a woman in white is said to warn people of danger. Liam is a protective alpha male who works at the prison... when dangerous criminals escape and start killing people Liam has to not only do his job but also now worry about Alicia. Who is staying at his house for safety. Throw in a cute dog who steals panties, meddling friends, dangerous criminals, steamy scenes and a couple of random ghosts you get a great read that is fast paced, exciting with great characters.  I thought that Ranae Rose did a great job with the first book of this series and I am looking forward to more.

Officer Next Door had me hooked from the very beginning. It was so hard to put down when I had to that I would have read it in my sleep if I could have done so. Ms. Rose gives us an intriguing romance that includes an intriguing suspense story that kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the Lock and Key series. Alicia Dalton recently moved to the coastal area of Riley County in North Carolina to coordinate special events at an historical plantation which is rumored to be haunted. The town is also home to the most well-known prison in the state. There are a lot of men in uniform around town to catch the eye, but one in particular will catch Alicia’s eye and make her move to North Carolina well worth it. But when she hears about the two convicts that escaped she starts to have second thoughts to her home being so secluded from town. Officer Liam Alexander works as a guard at the prison, and he is Alicia’s only neighbor. He doesn’t know it yet, but she’s seen a lot more of him than he could ever imagine. He is attracted to her the moment he lays eyes on her. Maybe he can use the escaped prisoners as a way to get closer to her. What will happen when she learns of the real reason why he offers his protection? Oh, I almost forgot to mention the ghost, but I don’t want to give too much away, so you will have to read the book to see what happens with that. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Enjoyable read, angst free, and smokin' hot! Favorite Quotes: “All she knew was that she’d won the neighbor lottery – having a sexy officer next door was the jackpot, and having Liam in particular was even better.”   My Review: This sensual love story was quite refreshing.  There were no arguments or struggles between the two main characters, no misunderstandings, tantrums, overhearing nasty comments in the bathroom, crazy exes, angst, etc.  Yet it was still interesting and I didn’t want to put it down… it was also smokin’ hot, well written, and just an all-around good book – how cool is that?   What it does have are unusual circumstances, probable hauntings/ghosts, a historic plantation home, cop killers, prison escapees, a posse, stray dogs, an alligator, klutziness, hot prison guards, bridezilla, a fire, steamy sex scenes, brownies, sweet tea, hot neighbors… wow.  Sure makes me wish my neighbor wasn’t an ignorant pig…

I loved Liam and Alicia together and they are so sweet as they do a little dance around each other.  Both are a little awkward as they try to decide if the other one is interested, but once they get their act together it goes full speed from there … and it works.  Plus, with the escaped convicts, there is that extra touch of danger to keep things moving fast. Just finished reading this first book of this series and this author. It was well written and had a great arc. Kept me in expense and deeply tied to the characters. Even the monster bride... Can't wait to read the rest.

This is the first in a new series by Ranae Rose.  This is a total change of pace from her Inked In The Steel City series.  Where that series took place in the city with tattooed hunks this series takes place down south in a rural town and the hotties where uniforms and carry a badge.  This is a longer book and it immerses you in a tale of murder, intrigue, ghosts and gators.  I was immediately sucked in and couldn’t put it down.  The characters are likeable (lickable too) and I am really looking forward to the next installment

Should be labelled "erotica". Ok storyline but much too graphic sex scenes. It's not in my archive!

There is something exciting about the start of a new series with new possibilities and twists and turns that you never see happening. And when you mix that with an author’s voice that just feels right and real then you have a hit on your hands. That is where this book starts and by the end of the book you will be begging for the next installment. Our main characters are so well fleshed out that you really get a sense of their motives, hidden fears and go on the journey with them. Alicia Dalton is a woman that has moved to Riley County North Carolina for a new start and moves in next to an officer that would make any woman not only drool but have a secret crush on. Liam Alexander is everything that we all imagine about brave men in uniform including Southern charm and irresistible. Admittedly I was unsure about the escapee convicts but these guys are drawn so brilliantly that as a reader you just want them to either get caught or end up back in prison. The back story for these two brothers is very well depicted and gave them a true menace as they attempted to allude capture once they had gone on the lamb. The secondary characters of Sasha, Kerry, Henry and Grey are great counter points to our main characters and I can’t wait to see what Ms. Rose has in store for each of these characters in future books. The interactions especially between Sasha, Kerry and Alicia had me in stitches a number of times because I can so imagine being in a room with people I know exactly like these two woman. I’d love to know if they were modeled after anyone in particular and if so they would definitely be woman that I would enjoy having with me when I go out for a drink or two. The supernatural element was a nice little twist in this book and kept me on the edge of my seat wondering if Alicia was “seeing” something or if it was a trick her girlfriends were pranking her with. The surprise was fully played out in the final 1/4 of the book and not going to spoil it here but loved the way Ms. Rose tied it all together at the end. The fact that this is a new series makes this a prime time to pick up Ms. Rose’s work and see if you find her as amazing and wonderful of a voice as I do. I have a feeling that you will enjoy this book as much as I have. Final Thoughts, this book is a brilliant start to a new series and I can’t wait to hear that book 2 is not only in the works but will be available for review and purchase. In other words, Ms. Rose has a hit on her hands with this outstanding book and it will be going into the Best of 2014 list for this blog. Kudos to Ms. Rose for a marvelous book and let me know as soon as book 2 is available, PLEASE! A copy of Officer Next Door was provided to me by the author and nothing else was exchanged for my honest review.
