This is an informative but also quick read. Shifflett explores the plight of Beijing's rural migrant workers. As someone who lived in China for several years and saw migrant workers on the streets, this book helped me gain a more holistic understanding of the challenges migrant workers face. By following the individual stories and going with them back to the countryside, Shifflett is able to give the reader deeper insight to the paradox between urban and rural China. Highly recommend!
