About the Author

Lisa B. Kamps is the author of the best-selling series The Baltimore Banners, featuring "hard-hitting, heart-melting hockey players", on and off the ice. ONCE BURNED is the launch title of her anticipated new series, Firehouse Fourteen, featuring hot and heroic firefighters.

Lisa has always loved writing, even during her assorted careers: first as a firefighter with the Baltimore County Fire Department, then a very brief (and not very successful) stint at bartending in east Baltimore, and finally as the Director of Retail Operations for a busy Civil War non-profit.

Lisa currently lives in Maryland with her husband and two sons, one very spoiled Border Collie, two cats with major attitude, several head of cattle, and entirely too many chickens to count.

I give this a 4.5 star rating (which is rare for me as I don't usually give more than 4 stars to any book). This is the first book in a new series Firehouse Fourteen. I've read other books by the author and was curious to see how she would approach this series compared to her hockey series. You can tell that she is a former firefighter by how well she knows the workings at the firehouse as well as what they are experiencing on the job. While the locale and background has changed, she did a good job with the storyline and development of the characters. It also helps that the action is hot and steamy. While this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone and does not end in a cliffhanger. Michaela Donaldson and Nicky Lansing were a couple. She had her life planned out (college, music, and Nicky). He was the typical bad boy (partying, guitar, fast car, and Michaela). An accident forced them apart. Ten years later another accident brings them back together. Both are very different now people than they were back then. She goes by Mike and is a firefighter. He goes by Nick and is a high school English teacher. They both realize that even ten years later the past isn't as buried as either one thought it was. They get stuck working with each other on a project. Can either one of them move on without dealing with what happened in the past? Or will they give themselves a chance at happiness together? I got so caught up in the emotional struggles of these two that I couldn't put the book down. The author did a fantastic job of giving depth, thoughts, emotions, and struggles to these characters. This book made me feel like it was me dealing with them and not just reading a storyline in a book. I can't wait to read future books in this series! I highly recommend that you read this book!

Lisa B. Kamps’ Once Burned is a heartfelt and emotional start to the Firehouse Fourteen series. Michaela (Mike) Donaldson and Nick Lansing were high school loves, an accident in high school tore them apart changing both their lives forever. Ten years later, Michaela is a firefighter and Nick is a school teacher, brought back together to develop an education program, but working together is not so easy. Lisa B. Kamps does a great job with her character development. It is interesting to see how the same accident impacted both lives so differently. Nick did a pretty good job turning his life around. He understandably felt horrible about what happened. He tries to do what is right. I think it is noble that Mike becomes a firefighter, so she can help save lives like hers was once rescued. It is ironic that she likes to drink as much as she does. I appreciated the concept of feeling invincible when you are young and agree unless you meet someone affected by the situation it has no impact on you. When I was in college, I became friends with a number of people that were on the wheelchair basketball and track teams. The majority of them were hit by drunk drivers. Knowing them, made a huge impact in my life. Just like I think the situations in this book would do the same for the high-school students whom Nick teaches. The presentation at the end was well-done and full of impact. This story was a bit out of my normal read, but I really enjoyed it. It moved me, especially toward the end of the story. Once Burned would make great required reading for high-school students. Complimentary copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

4 star I was pulled right into this story. This is the first story I read by this author and I was not disappointed. . The story has laughs, pain, and heartbreak. This is Michaela and Nick’s story. When you entire life is planned out you feel wonderful. One night changed everything. Michaela wanted to go to college and have a life with the man she loves. Now she is a firefighter that is at times detached from her own life. She’s happy in her eyes but really is she happy? When Nick comes back into her life she knows she was not happy. The chemistry between these two is on fire. Nick was a bad boy but he has settled down his bad boy ways since that one night. With one night tearing them apart can one night bring them back together? I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I recommend this book.

First read by Kamps and not disappointed. . . I want more. Sexy, Steamy, Smoldering . . .this firefighter has more going on the muscles and a toned body. You must read deeper to get the full effect and the backstory that broke these two lovers and brought them back together again. This is my first read from Lisa Kamps and I found more than I could have expected. This love story was worth the read and gave me more than I was anticipating. I fell in love with Michaela and Nick. Nick has so much on his plate that needs to be scrapped away. Their reunion may be just the fork needed to get all the crust off. Firehouse Fourteen has a follower. I look forward to what is to come next. Thank you Lisa. **This ARC was provided via Tasty Book Tours in exchange for an honest review.**
