Overview

Once Is Not Enough by Jacqueline Susann

Once upon a time, the entertainment industry was a world that never slept. Magazine editors, models, pop stars, and all the rest visited "vitamin doctors" to get the shots that would allow them to stay up all night and then work all day—in offices decorated with beanbag chairs and Calderesque mobiles. In this world, January Wayne goes from poor-little-rich-girl to grown-up swinger, as she searches New York and Los Angeles for a guy just like Mike Wayne, the glamorous movie producer, who also just happens to be her father.

Though often panned by critics, Susann's slightly sordid yet thoroughly fabulous novel was embraced by her fans. Once Is Not Enough became Susann's third consecutive novel to reach the number one spot on the New York Times best-seller list—the first time any author had accomplished this feat. The novel would be Susann's last great success: The year after its publication, in 1974, the author died of breast cancer.

I have read all three of jacqueline susann's major books: once is not enough, the love machine and valley of the dolls. Her writing is addicicting. With story plots that seemed to be happening in a present time her writing is much more advanced than the time she was living in. I definately recommend every girl to read this and learn from the events and experiences of the characters

This book really pushes the boundaries of love as dictated by society! For me, it was a little hard to get into, but eventually I was entertained and even surprised, shocked, confused. When I started reading, I did not know that this book was written in the 70's. Knowing that helped me understand what made this book a best seller. It provided a shock value similar to what Shades of Grey has provoked during current times. Not my favorite book, but definitely worth reading.

I loved Valley of the Dolls, however Once Is Not Enough was dissapointing. If you haven't read Valley of the Dolls, Read that and you will see what I mean. Once IS not Enough isn't Suzannes, best work.

I read this right after Valley of the Dolls and Shadow of the Dolls, and it was just as good! Typical Susann.......sexy, emotional, sometimes humorous, mysterious, addictive....everything I was asking for! Susann is definitly one of my favorite authors now. Her books would make great gifts for girls. I'm definitly gonna recommend this to people I know :-)

this book was my first susann to read and it was absolutley amazing!!! I loved every word that was wrote and whoever thinks of this as trash is awful!! this book is a true masterpiece and to me susann's heart and soul is hauntingly written out on every page!! you could hardly get my attention the whole time i was reading it, then when it was over I was depressed that there was no more to read!!!!

I loved this book! Mrs. Susann's sense of writing is before her time. She writes of lesbians, orgys, drug addictions, cancer, etc, before it was as it is today. And if you have ever read one of her books, you know that the endings are what really get you!

Susann, is one of the best authors I have come across. 'Once is not Enough' is what you will say after reading her work. I could not put the book down. I can't wait to read another of her glorious writings.
