All of London looks forward to the Dowager Duchess of Clayworth's annual ball. For no matter how hard the serious society matron strives to host an elegant event, scandal always ensues . . .

And while Serena hopes for a quiet evening to introduce her younger sister Olivia to society, Jonathan's only desire is to pick up where he and Serena left off . . .

Though innocent Olivia secretly longs for the kind of passion her sister shares with her husband, none of the men she's met spark a fire inside her heart-least of all the notorious Marquis of Fenwicke. About the Author

As a child, Jennifer Haymore traveled the South Pacific with her family on their homebuilt sailboat. The months spent on the sometimes quiet, sometimes raging seas sparked her love of adventure and grand romance. Since then, she's earned degrees in computer science and education and held various jobs ranging from bookselling to teaching inner-city children to acting, but she's never stopped writing.

You can find Jennifer in Southern California trying to talk her husband into yet another trip to England, helping her three children with homework while brainstorming a new five-minute dinner menu, or crouched in a corner of the local bookstore writing her next novel.

Like 20 pages. No ending.

The book is so incredibly short that it never has any time to pick up and actually carry a meaningful storyline. by page 29 the book is completed and the rest of the 20 pages are samples for other books. While I don't usually gripe about the length of a book this is ridiculous. Why even publish this?

I'm glad I read the story but it is more an ad for the series these characters come from. That said, I purchased the next book in series and it was great. This book was a great introduction to the characters. Don't read if you don't want to read the series. This takes place between confessions of an improper bride and secrets of an accidental dutchess.

This was a complete waste of money. I wish Id read the reviews first. It has the promise of being good but ends abruptly after a few pages with no ending. What kind of writer alienates possible readers like that?

Posted on Romancing the Book's blog Reviewed by Patti Review Copy Provided by the Publisher I would have to say I was definitely left wanting more. If the intention of this book was to lure me in for the next book it has definitely succeeded in its task. Having not read the first book, Confessions of an Improper Bride, I am intrigued enough to go and pick that one up as well. The scandal of Jonathan and Serena’s story is one I would love to know more about. Olivia seems to be a very interesting and possibly very entertaining character. She is going to need someone pretty special to get through her defenses. The Marquis of Fenwicke is definitely a character I love to hate. At the end of the story is the prologue for the next book. After reading that I realize that Max already has me in his corner. The way he is portrayed is so endearing, I already know I am going to be cheering for him the whole time. I will definitely be going out to buy Secrets of an Accidental Duchess.

DELICIOUS TALE OF HOW THE DONOVAN SISTERS BEGAN! ONCE UPON A WICKED NIGHT by Jennifer Haymore is a delicious bridge between ”Confessions of an Improper Bride” and “Secrets of an Accidental Duchess”. It tells the story of Serena Donovan and Jonathan Dane. How the scandal occured, and the heartbreak that followed between Serena, the eldest Donovan, and Jonathan. What quick, fast and fun read that filled in the gaps between the two Donovan stories so far. I look forward to the next installment of the Donovan sisters and the men who loves them.”Once Upon A Wicked Night” will help get your Donovan Sister fix while waiting for the next sister to appear. Received for an honest review from Net Galley, the publisher, and a personal buy.Detals can be found at Forever, an imprint Grand Central Publishing, the author’s website, and My Book Addiction and More. *Coming from Grand Central Publishing PLEASURES OF A TEMPTED LADY August 1, 2012 Donovan Sisters, Book 3 * RATING: 4 HEAT RATING: Mild REVEIWED BY: AprilR,My Book Addiction and More

I picked up ONCE UPON A WICKED NIGHT by Jennifer Haymore from NetGalley because I thought it was a good way to introduce myself to a romance author I was not familiar with. I thought that almost fifty pages of ONCE UPON A WICKED NIGHT would introduce me to Haymore's writing as well as give a taste of what her series would be like. The story focuses on sisters Serena and Olivia. For Serena, this ball is important because seven years ago, it was the ball that had damaged her reputation. For Olivia, this was her first outing of the Season and she was determined to keep up her family's reputation. I thought Serena's story to be quite pointless, but it did make me interested in her story. On the other hand, Olivia's chapter was quite scandalous. Now my problem with ONCE UPON A WICKED NIGHT is basically false advertising. I thought I would get around 50 pages of romance goodness. I got less than 30. The other half of this "novella" was an excerpt from the first Donovan Sisters novel by Jennifer Haymore. What? Yeah. Talk about disappointing. I understand that ONCE UPON A WICKED NIGHT is a novella, but it failed to leave me with any kind of satisfaction as a reader. I am interested in Serena's story and eventually, I may pick up the first Donovan sisters novel, but overall, ONCE UPON A WICKED NIGHT was a let down. But if I were to have purchased this novella just to try out a new author, I would have been severely disappointed. I rather would have read the first book of the Donovan Sisters series to see if I liked Haymore's writing than to have been let down just after a measley 25 or so pages.

Where the heck is the rest of the book?
Anonymous More than 1 year ago
This is very misleading. Basicly what you read in the description is all there is to this novella plus two excerpts from two of Jennifer Haymore's other books. I would not waste your time or money.

Don't waste your money! This is the shortest story ever! It should have been free for the amount of words.

This novella was a lot shorter than I thought it was going to be. Reading it on my Kindle, it ended at about 50%, with the other half being the first chapter of Confessions of an Improper Bride (first book in the series). I feels much more like the epilogue to the first book or the prologue to the second book in the series than a full novella.  Though I wished it were longer, I did enjoy this brief glimpse into the Donovan Sister series. Serena and Jonathan were a wonderful couple. It was clear that they had gone through a lot to be together and their love for each other was very sweet. Serena's younger sister Olivia is innocent in the ways of London society and has a brief run in with a rake. Olivia was pretty bland in this. I think it has more to do with the brevity of the piece than an actual problem with Olivia herself. She has the potential to be an interesting character but she doesn't get a chance to shine in this short piece.  Once Upon A Wicked Night is more of a teaser than a novella. If the intention was to pique my interest in the Donovan Sisters series, it definitely worked. However, as a standalone story it's too short and does not give you enough to be a truly satisfying read. I received my copy free from NetGalley in exchange for a review but I would have been annoyed had I paid for it. It would serve its purpose better as a free read on the author's website. That way, fans of the series can get an epilogue to James and Serena's story and new readers can read it and decide if this is a series they'd be interested in. The actual "story" of this book is 2 stars for me but I am giving it 3 stars because it was enough to make me want to read this series.  I would recommend skipping this and jumping in with the first book. Yes, it costs more but you will be getting much more for your money. *I received this book free of charge from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This, in no way, affected my opinion or review of this book.
