One for Virgil Tibbs

Through the medium of motion pictures Virgil Tibbs has become known round the world. The first movie about him was "In the Heat of the Night" (1967), in which Sidney Poitier played the role of Virgil, and played it superbly. The movie won five Academy Awards and was voted the best picture of the year by the New York Film Critics. Two sequels, "They Call Me Mr. Tibbs" and "The Organiza-tion," also starred Sidney Poitier.
