The intent is to improve the awareness of counselors of both their own unintentional biases and the resultant consequences for their minority clients. The purpose is to train effective mental health professionals and improve services rendered to minority populations by examining the presence of racism and discriminatory attitudes in the therapeutic setting. Specific recommendations for increasing therapists' awareness of unintentional bias and establishing effective treatment interventions with racially diverse patients are made.
