Francesco Forgione, later known as Padre Pio, (May 25, 1887 – September 23, 1968), canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2002 as Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, was an Italian Roman Catholic Capuchin priest who was given the name Pio when he joined the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin.
