Overview

Parker by Kathi S. Barton

Who rescued who was still a little vague, but they escaped just the same. The lab called him SA-8, and they had made him into a very powerful weapon. But to Reese he was just Josh, a boy that could do amazing things, but a boy none the less--not a lab rat. That was two years ago--the lab had been relentless and lethal in their pursuit. With her big rig running on fumes, and their last dime spent, they wound up on a small town in Ohio....

Parker McCullough found an abandoned big rig parked on his land. It had been there a few days, and he wasn't quite sure what to do about it. Calling the authorities seemed like the logical thing to do, but when he tried to do so, his cell phone went flying from his hand and a teenage boy appeared from nowhere. Parker thought the boy was an Elite Shifter, and after hearing a little of the boy's story he wanted to help.

Reese didn't know who all these people were, but if she and Josh didn't get away from them, the "others" would find them and they'd all be dead, just like all the other people who had tried to help them along the way.... And now the gorgeous shifter, Parker, had her trapped in the kitchen claiming to be her mate.... She didn't have time for herself, and she didn't want to see them all die because they'd helped her and Josh--Reese was out of options.

The plot is great. Unfortunately the dialog is choppy and incomplete as if the author didn't want to take the time, nor bother to write correctly. This was very confusing to read and get into the story. I could not finish the book. Ended up deleting it from my library instead of archiving it. I recommend the author take some time and rewrite this book properly. Then I believe it would be worth five stars.

Ms. Barton has such unique and interesting characters that it is hard not to be drawn into her fantasy worlds. Parker, Reese and Josh were a lot of fun to read about. The drama, action, character interactions and family dynamics are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. Ms. Barton makes sure that her series characters interact in each new story adding depth and emotional hooks that keep you coming back for more. Reese and Parker don't get a quiet mating as the bad guys are closing in and they do not want to take no for an answer. Josh's whole character was an eye opening experience and I hope he will get his own book somewhere in the future. While there is a lot of things going on you can still see this small family develop and the ties of love deepen. As a mate, Reese seems to be a bit timid, she has a temper and will protect the owns she loves. However , compared to Colin's mate from book one who shoots first and asks questions after, she seems like a marshmallow. As always, I eagerly await the next book in the series.

Parker is a jaguar and is out looking over his property with his Dad when he finds an abandoned 18 wheeler - he is just about to call the police when out of no where a boy appears and stops him. The boy is a shifter of some sort and trusts Parker to keep his secret and help him and the girl who rescued him. Reese has been on the run with the boy called Josh for many years - she won't let them take him back to the lab. When Parker meets Reese finally he knows she is his mate, but Reese doesn't want this because if "the others" find them they will stop at nothing to get Josh back including killing everyone like they did before. Can Reese and Parker become one? Can they save Josh from the lab that created him? Definitely a must read by the awesome Kathi S Barton.

Parker and Reese have stolen my heart. The love that these two have for each other as well as for Josh and their family is beyond amazing! This family as well is has so much loyalty and love that every mate and child that come into the family won't go without love.
