The book gave me a stark and nuanced view into the Viet Nam war and had themes that are more universal. It made it a "good read" but that was thought provoking. I particularly focused on the tension of the main character Singer's desire to return to action, feel the rush and try to fill a void with revenge while at the same time wanting to avoid it. "I hate and fear the fighting and love something about it at the same time." I expect the book and the voices it embraces will get the readership it deserves.
