Philip K. Dick was born on December 16, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois. His family moved frequently during his childhood, primarily due to his father's job, but also due to his parents' divorce when he was young, which led him to live with his mother. This nomadic childhood would influence his later writings, which often feature themes of dislocation and uncertainty. Philip attended Berkeley High School in California.
