Cassie Armstrong has plenty to atone for. The daughter of the most immoral researcher ever to pick up a scalpel, she’s determined to use her own brilliance in genetics to repair the damage her family has done to the paranormals. Especially Dante, the first of the phoenixes, the one they call the Immortal. He’s been haunting her dreams since she was a little girl, and she’s been trying to ease his pain for almost as long. If only he remembered any of it . . .
Dante doesn’t know what Cassie’s story is. He almost doesn’t care. The minute he sees her, all he can think is mine. But there’s more to the pretty little doctor than meets the eye. And Dante isn’t the only one to notice. He can’t trust her, but he can’t stay away—and if he wants to learn her secrets, he’s going to have to fight like hell to keep them both alive . . .

AudioBook Review Stars: Overall 4 Narration 2 Story 5 The third book in this action-packed paranormal story brings us more action, romance and a touch of redemption. Starting with Cassie, daughter of the evil scientist that has been experimenting on and torturing paranormals for years. Cassie knows what is going on, doesn’t agree with it, and wants desperately to make up for it. Perhaps it’s the nightly dream visits she gets from Dante, the first Phoenix captured and imprisoned. While she’s trying to atone for the sins of her father, she’s dancing on the edge of that morass of self-hatred and pity, and that increases with each regeneration of Dante. Dante is known as the Immortal, and the first taken. His history and past are tragic, and Eden lays out his information without overwhelming the readers or making it the only point of the story as he and Cassie work toward a resolution and his freedom. See, sometimes on reawakening Dante knows her, others he doesn’t – and she is so desperate for his love and affection she’s turning herself inside out like a puppy. Some things she can’t atone for – it wasn’t her doing, and while the paranormals aren’t thrilled with her family’s acts, they don’t blame her – all see what she has done, or tried to do. What makes this series so special is Eden’s ability to build characters and origin stories that seem plausible, fit the characters, and add to their development: giving us reasons to cheer on the connections and hiss at the bad guys. As a series, the story proceeds in a logical arc: introducing characters and events that evolve as the story continues. Easy to read as standalone titles, the stories work singly, but best as a continual arc. Narration for this story (and series) is provided by Jillian Macie, and as with the earlier two in the series – while there was no great distractions in her performance, there were also no reasons to rave about it either. Her presentation of Cassie was appropriate and felt natural, even as there were no discernable inflection or tone adjustments to indicate other characters. A bit of overwork in the tense / quiet moments that bordered on distracting, but as with the others in the series, this did settle somewhat as the book progressed. For the entire series I’d say that her performance needs a deal of work and hope that if she continues to narrate that time will be spent on emoting, tone and pitch control to better distinguish and present multiple characters and enhance the title. I received an AudioBook copy of the title from Tantor Audio for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

I love shifters. All of them. Tigers, lions, wolves, wild dogs, bears and of course honey badgers!  All! #parawhore Until Dante I was a Phoenix virgin but he has broken my cherry. And how! Cynthia Eden always delivers whether it’s her paranormal or contemporary books. She’s one of my go to authors when I want an easy hot alpha and never disappoints. ‘Playing with Fire’ is the third book in The Phoenix Fire Series, the previous two I have not read but easily read this as a standalone. It’s a steamy, intense, fast paced read with plenty of twists and turns and one of her best works. Dante is Mr Tall Hot and Brooding, a Phoenix known as The Immortal who rises from the ashes each time he is killed. More often than not he rises without his memories but each and every time he sees Cassie all he can think and feel is MINE even when he has no knowledge of her or himself. “When I breathe in your scent, I ache.” “When I kissed you, your taste had me maddened.” “I look at you, and I think… mine.” Cassie was 8 years old the first time she saw Dante and he’s been haunting her dreams ever since. When he forgets her it breaks her heart each time, she loves him but their history is long and tangled. A brilliant genetics scientist, Cassie is determined to atone for the atrocities her father committed and help all the paranormals affected by his flawed decisions. I loved both Dante and Cassie. Cassie is one of the best heroines Ms Eden has written. She has a strength of character and determination that drew me and I found myself empathising with her through the whole book. She is struggling to cope with the guilt caused by her father’s actions, with the need to right those wrongs and with her love for Dante, their chemistry is combustible but the memories problem and trust issues rear their head time and again so the path is far from smooth. This girl was not afraid to challenge her man when he hit cave man mode “Mine” and “Kill” being his go to words. The “Mine” shouldn’t be panty dropping sexy but oh it so is! The “Kill” Cassie calls him on many times, her belief is everything has a right to life and you should help not kill, but Dante has lived many lifetimes, seen many things and his instinct to protect her means kill first, ask questions later. This led to some interesting confrontations between them and some lessons for an Immortal to learn. As this story progresses the relationship between the main characters and the multitude of secondary characters is so engaging I read it in one sitting and was going to call this a quickie, but it’s 353 pages so fast and furious, only because I was devouring it! My only moan would be the epilogue was far too short, I wanted more! I shall read the first two of this series now because of the calibre of this one. The mix of intrigue, violence, twists and unexpected turns, steamy sexiness and emotion makes for a couple of hours of sheer unadulterated escapism that went too fast……..

The story is amazing both Cassie and Dante great characters author beautiful describes their complicated relationship. So many things happen and I loved how unpredictable all was and that I could see what will happen next. I really enjoyed reading it. Recommended for all paranormal lovers. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly.

I didn’t read the other two books in the series, but it was fine. The book is a stand alone novel, with enough backstory into the other characters to keep you from being lost. The story wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. It was the typical overbearing alpha male constantly rescuing the formally capable damsel in distress. The insta love was explained, but it was still two people who had spent a few days together (including their past brief encounters) declaring their love for each other. The world building was good, and I would be interested to see what happens to the characters who haven’t had their HEA yet, but I doubt I would go back an read the other two books in this series. This is the kind of book I would read while while waiting on my fav’s to come out. Entertaining, but not outstanding.

3.75 stars-- PLAYING WITH FIRE is the third and final instalment in Cynthia Eden’s contemporary adult PHOENIX BURN paranormal, romance series focusing on a group of enhanced supernatural and humans. This is scientist Cassie Armstrong, and phoenix Dante’s story line. PLAYING WITH FIRE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. SOME BACKGROUND: Years earlier, an experiment to make the perfect super soldier went horribly wrong when the people in control when above and beyond their designated tasks. The Phoenix Burn series focuses on the continuing experiments and on-going problems of the affected supernaturals and humans. NOTE: Due to the story line content including torture and bloodshed, there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers. Told from several third person points of view including Dante and Cassie PLAYING WITH FIRE follows the second chance (of sorts) relationship between scientist Cassie Armstrong, and phoenix Dante. Years earlier Cassie Armstrong, the daughter of a brilliant but insane scientist saved Dante, on more than once occasion, but with each incarnation Dante remembered little about his past. Fast forward to present day wherein Cassie will continue to track down the man that she loves in order to help others who have been affected by the cruel and unusual experiments. What ensues is the rekindling friendship, and building love between our leading couple, and the potential fall-out as betrayal and heartbreak continue to follow in their wake. PLAYING WITH FIRE is a story of power and revenge; betrayal and pain; destiny and love. Cynthia Eden brings together an odd assortment of supernatural beings including purebreds and hybrids, all of whom must work together to protect themselves from the ultimate evil. Vengeance, deception, dishonesty and lies are around every corner as Cassie tries desperately to help the people she loves but in doing so hurts the man that calls to her heart. The premise is dramatic; the romance is fated; the characters are numerous, intense and energetic. There are a number of characters whose story has yet to be told-I am hoping the author considers picking up where the series left off.

This is a reprint of the 3rd book in the Phoenix Fire series. So if you have read that book before, nothing is different about this one other than the cover. It's about Cassie Armstrong and the Phoenix Dante. Cassie is trying to atone for the things her father and brother did to paranormals. She wants to fix the things they did and make the lives of the paranormals at least somewhat better. But she also believes she needs Dante's help in order to do this. Even knowing that he doesn't remember her or their shared past. Dante Can't remember anything that happened between them before, but he does know when he see's her that she is his! He knows there is more going on than he knows about but he is determined that she will be his. I will always love this story. All of the books in this series are good but just knowing what Cassie went through as a child and what she did to try help not only Dante but the other's her family was hurting makes you love her even more. It always made me sad that every time Dante would "die" he wouldn't remember her or their past when he came back. And to realize that they both were fighting so much more than they ever thought they were at the end? Makes it a truly great story once they handle it and everything else going on! Another great read by this author!

Obsession. That's the word that sticks out to me about this book. Dante is obsessed with Cassandra even when he doesn't remember her. He's a Phoenix and when he dies, he loses his memory but never the pull to her. He'll follow her to the ends of the earth. Cassie is trying so hard to right the wrongs of her father. There has to be a cure for what he did to his victims and she will do anything to help them. She thinks Dante is the key but every time he dies, he loses his memory of her. She's been in love with him since she was eight years old and her heart breaks every time he forgets her. I like the twist to this story. Dante has a dark side and he's willing to do anything to keep Cassie. He's cold and you can't tell if his obsession to Cassie is just possession or more. When he dies and rises again, you never know what he's going to be like. I loved it!

AN IMPRESSIVELY POWERFUL, SEXY, ADDICTIVE story by Cynthia Eden! Even though this is the third book in Miss Eden's Phoenix Fire series, this is the first one in it that I have read and HOT DAMN AM I HOOKED! I D-E-V-O-U-R-E-D this book in a little over a day! It was HEART SMASHING GOOD with a hero who had a RED HOT obsession and a AMAZING WOMAN WHO WASN'T AWARE OF HER OWN POWERS. I LOVED Dante! He seemed so cold and had killer instincts that dictated he kill first but with Cassie, things start to shift and change. What started out as a white hot obsession turned into something much more And Cassie...she was extraordinary in my opinion, tough, sweet, caring and willing to do ANYTHING to save paranormals that her father tortured and experimented I said, she is EXTRAORDINARY! There was so much adrenaline pumping action that it was hard to keep still. And plenty of spell-binding lust and fabulous characters that I am now completely obsessed over. I am KICKING myself for not finding this series before now. Playing With Fire is THRILLING...TEMPTING....DARK AND WICKED! I am in stunned AWE! Playing With Fire gets a HIGHLY ADDICTIVE AND CERTAINLY SEXY FIVE SHOOTING STARS!

Just when I think how can Cynthia Eden top her previous paranormal romance, she comes out with a fireball that takes us on fiery ride of unbridled passion, evil as dark as midnight and defiant paranormal who would burn the very ends of earth to protect their mates. Cynthia Eden’s latest release, “Playing With Fire” is the third (maybe the final) in her Phoenix Series and what read it is! Dante the Immortal is pitched against Cassie Armstrong the Siren and we get a deadly combination of fire and control! As the daughter of a father who is the ultimate evil to hold a scalpel, Cassie has a lot to redress. In the name of research, her father experimented and created soldiers of mass destruction with the mix of various paranormal and their DNA, unbalancing the very cycle of life and his daughter was not spared either. Cassie wants to correct the wrong and save the good from being devoured by the evil and she needs Dante to make it happen. Dante is a mass of fire, an Immortal who can rise from the dead again and again. Devoid of any emotion and feelings, memories lost to many deaths he falls to, tears from a heartless Immortal may be the only cure for the virus on a rampage. But Dante shedding tears is not on the agenda and neither is him been drawn by the sweet voice of Cassie.  Fighting the evil dogging their backs, giving into the passion raging between them, Cassie and Dante are on the run leaving a ball of fire in their wake. Dante brings to light the reality of Cassie’s power and Cassie helps Dante remember that he has a heart and sometimes sacrifice is essential to save a normal human being. It is wonderful to revisit the previous powerful paranormal and their quest for finding a cure and peace to live a normal life among the mortals. And the epilogue was icing on the cake! Almost had me in tears…. Playing With Fire breathes down your neck, makes your heart beat faster, gets your adrenaline pumping and chills racing your veins. I don’t think anyone can beat Cynthia Eden in her writing of paranormal romance.

Unique, great series! Playing with Fire is third book from Phoenix Fire series and it's Dante and Cassie's story. We met both of the main characters in the previous book - Once Bitten,Twice Burned, also that was introduction to the next story in the series. Dante and Cassie are strong characters, yes different, but in the deep of soul very alike. He is Phoenix shifter and he has a big advantage compared to the other Phoenix shifters. And Cassi, well,I don't want to spoil the story for you,so when you will read this book, you will discover what she is and that advantage of Dante. They will go through a difficult, dangerous fight for what they believe in,and for what they feel for one another. And there love will fight against any and all. Dante and Cassie, truly great couple! I think there are very few paranormal books for Phoenix shapeshifters and Cynthia Eden managed to bring us three incredible paranormal stories! If you want to read something great, something amazing, then this series is the right choice for you :) *ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley for honest review*

4 - ”Learn all my secrets.” … “I offer them to you.” Stars. I am sad that we have reached the end of the Phoenix Fire Series. I have loved reading each and every one of these books, and Cynthia Eden is one of my absolute favorite authors, for books in this genre. I don’t think it is actually possible for her to write a bad book, no matter the subject. ”Maybe there are some things you’d rather not remember. There are sure things I’d prefer to forget.” Dante and Cassie first popped up in the second book in the series, and we were given a little taste of the fact that they had history, and not all of it was good. Although reluctantly for Cassie, they were on opposite sides of the battle lines initially, Scientist – Subject, but allegiances have now changed. Unfortunately, it is sometimes a little difficult trying to make a guy who potentially loses his memory every time he is reborn to remember that fact! ”I don’t know if I should help you or kill you.” You really need to read the first two books in this series to really get the full benefit of this book; a lot has happened throughout the previous books and this really is the climax of the story as a whole, everything is tied up really well, all the questions are answered, and the epilogue is adorable, I would however have liked a little more on Ryder & Sabine in Playing with Fire. I loved Dante, as much as I love Cain and Ryder (books 1 & 2), he is another uber alpha, not afraid to speak his mind, kill his enemies and protect his woman. He is also pretty hot (no pun intended) between the sheets too, which always makes for a stellar read! ”When I breathe in your scent, I ache.” “When I kissed you, your taste had me maddened.” “I look at you, and I think… mine.” I can’t recommend this series or its author highly enough, you are always given the a full HD reading experience when you pick up a Cynthia Eden book, and as always this one is no exception. Remember me.” “I already do. I always will.” ARC generously provided via Netgalley, in exchange for the above honest review.

It was a pleasure to read this book, I enjoyed it so very much; it’s my favorite in the trilogy.  Dante loses his memories every time he dies and, being a phoenix, rises again and again. Cassie is in love with him since she was a child and, as him, an experiment to her father at Genesis. Seeing how he doesn’t remember her, hurts her but she was always determined to help him escape. This is such a romantic tale, with some very hot moments.  It was such a thrill accompanying Dante and Cassie in their escape from their enemy, Jon, who has some big surprise that he kept from everyone and will turn even more difficult Dante’s and Cassie’s life. At the same time, Cassie is determined to find a cure for the primal vampires and her friend Trace, the werewolf whom we know from book 1, Burn For Me. Also seeing Cain and Eve was so good. It’s always a pleasure to see previous characters and now more about them, how they are. This is a very good trilogy, that ends with a fantastic book and I highly recommend it to any paranormal romance fan.
