I had to read this for school, so I was not originally very excited. Haha. But, as I started to read, I was captured by the imagery and informal language that Maya Angelou puts into her writing. Being a writer myself, I appreciated it more than some of my peers. I read some of the poems aloud to myself and the flow is really good, definitely a good book for contemporary poetry lovers. While non-poetry lovers might not be able to appreciate it as much, the good images help to make some of the poems more like a story.

Maya Angelou knows how to rhyme and how to be powerful with her words. Some of the poems in here are really amazing. This is a compilation of four different books of poetry by Maya Angelou.

Although the book arrived in great condition, it did take a little longer than I had hoped - perhaps because of the holidays.

I love Maya Angelou! She could not write anything bad, even if she tried! She is truly a LADY, a SCHOLAR, a SISTER! Need not many words, just go out and buy it, keep it, give it as present! She is very special person in my heart!

This little book contains all of my favorite Maya poems; A Conceit, Phenomenal Woman, Still I Rise, Caged Bird. It is small enough to carry around with you when you're in need of a little inspiration, but complete enough that you don't feel you're missing anything. Great collection from an amazing poet!

This fantastic book of verse and poetry is a must read. It¿s filled with golden nuggets. I keep a copy in my car for inspirational reading. One of the most moving poems is ¿Still I Rise.¿ The words of this poem remind us that the spirit is capable of rising above all odds and obstacles. Allowing for normal reflection of our youth is ¿Harlem Hopscotch.¿ One cannot help but reflect on the days of sidewalk games, acting cool, and getting to sing and to hop. The poem allows us to recall such fun days. Having intestinal fortitude is shown in ¿Just Like Job.¿ It reminds us that even though life is a struggle, victory is there when we call upon God our creator. He hears our pleas and attends to our needs. This book is one of encouragement and motivation. As a result, it relaxes the soul.
