Loved Ryan and Teresa's story, really a short exciting addition to the series.

A quick, very enjoyable read with Katie's wolf pack. She was just...hurt. And tired of feeling as if she wasn't good enough to officially mate with. It was no wonder her wolf was going insane. PROTECTIVE INSTINCT by Katie Reus was a quick, very enjoyable novella featuring favorite characters, danger and suspense galore. It's installment 5.5 in her Moon Shifter series. This is the story of Teresa and Ryan, two wolf-shifters with the pack. I'm thrilled that they are finally having their stories told. Even though it's part of a series, this book could be easily enjoyed as a standalone if you're just looking for a good paranormal suspenseful read as Katie fills in what you need to know when you need to know it. However, for maximum enjoyment, I'd recommend reading the whole series as there are interconnected characters and previous storylines that play into this tale. Ryan, Ryan... how stupid can you be? The heat between Ryan and Teresa was scorching. Teresa's wolf was climbing the walls because he was holding back due to a hangup he had. When Teresa gets caught up in a revenge plot by a heartless female vampire that puts her in jeopardy, will Teresa survive? Ryan had almost lost her once. I don't want to say more - you need to read this book to find out. Fans of the series will love the snippets with alpha Connor and Ana. One involved a bet that had me laughing out loud. I'm a huge Katie Reus fan. She has never once disappointed me. Now I can't wait to read Natalia's and Alric's story. They were a secondary plotline in this book and the tension between them was viable. Also, Rafael's and Rosa's story seems set - but is it? The ending was heart-stopping - but don't worry about a cliffhanger - there isn't one. (Yay!) PROTECTIVE INSTINCT was well worth the read with fast-paced action and suspense! I highly recommend it to fans of paranormal romantic suspense. My full review is posted at Reading Between The Wines Book Club. Please check it out there. 3 1/2 Wine Glasses!

In the previous novel—HUNTER REBORN—we find out that Ryan feels the same way Teresa does and he finally confesses his need and desire to claim her as his mate. But, because of his empath abilities, he’s afraid that Teresa doesn’t realize what all that entails and he doesn’t want her to make a mistake and regret their mating. It was revealed in HUNTER REBORN that Ryan’s father was an empath also. What’s unique about wolf shifter empaths is that they can create a matebond any time. It doesn’t have to be a full moon. Ryan’s father accidentally mated with his mother one coupling and without her permission. His mother hated his father for it. The last thing Ryan wants is a mating like that. He wants Teresa to be fully aware of the decision to become his mate. Even if it means denying his and her wolves’ urges to form the matebond and pushing Teresa away, hurting her and her wolf in the process. Teresa is tired of Ryan denying her the mating and constantly telling her she needs to be absolutely sure of the decision. She is not a cub and she knows exactly what she’s asking for. Having Ryan constantly deny her his bite is slowly breaking her heart and driving her wolf crazy. Thinking she needs distance from Ryan, Teresa takes Ana—the alpha’s mate—up on her offer to head out on a trip with a single, hunky wolf shifter to look at some property the pack wants to purchase. Getting away for a breather is her main goal, but making Ryan jealous is a plus. Maybe he’ll finally snap out of this…whatever it is and finally trust her and her wolf’s instinct to mate. I absolutely loved this novella! I think Ryan and Teresa are my favorite couple of the series. Teresa seems fragile but she has the strength to know her own mind and challenge the super sexy computer guru/cowboy/wolf shifter that is Ryan. I love how Teresa found her voice and we get to see her shine. I also loved the secondary characters. It was good to see page time with Ana and Connor (ALPHA INSTINCT) and Teresa’s sisters. We also get wind of a few future couplings and I am very excited to see how those matings turn out. PROTECTIVE INSTINCT is an exciting addition to the Moon Shifter series and I cannot wait to find out what direction the author guides us through next! ***I was gifted an eBook copy from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. Katie Reus Okay, I have to say that I really liked this book. This novella was a quick, enjoyable read. We have seen Teresa and Ryan for a while, but their connection began in the last book. Teresa is tired of waiting for her mate, so she decides to take matters into her own hands before time runs out. Ryan is constantly pushing her away and it breaks her heart, but she knows what she wants and thinks making Ryan jealous will make him understand what he feels for her and trust her wolf’s need to mate. Ryan knows who his mate is, Teresa, but because of his parents disastrous mating and doesn’t want to push Teresa into a life/situation that she may regret.. Ryan acted stupid at times, but he was only trying to protect Teresa but he pushes her away and hurts her and her wolf. He needs to see Teresa for the strong woman she is and not a weak/fragile woman. I cannot wait to see what happens in future Moon Shifter books.

Great Addition to an Established Series. Protective Instinct, a new novella in the Moon Shifter Series by Katie Reus.  This novella tells the story of Ryan O’Callaghan and Teresa Cordova.  Teresa knows that Ryan is her mate – likewise Ryan knows that Teresa is his mate but Ryan is resisting the bond due to his past.  (His parents bonded when they shouldn’t have and were miserable).  Ryan is allowing his past, and his parents’ experience, to color his judgment about bonding with Teresa. While Ryan is all about some sexy times with Teresa he refuses to take the final step and bond with her. Teresa is hurt and thus needs to get away from the daily contact with Ryan and the pull of her wolf’s attraction to him.  She volunteers to go with another world on an overnight trip for the Alpha. In doing so, she puts herself in the path of an enemy of her family who is dead set on revenge.   This appears to wake Ryan up from his “wait and see” attitude.  The shifter world that Katie Reus has created for this series is believable.  There are humans and other paranormal creatures (vampires) in this series and like in real life they don’t always mesh or get along together.  This goes a long way to making the stories more believable. There is enough action and suspense to satisfy you, working out who the real bad guy is.  There is some heat to these books, they are shifters, after all – but it is not the focal point of the story.  I would recommend this series to any fan of paranormal romantic suspense. I was provided an ARC of this novella for an honest review.

Protective Instinct, part of the Moon Shifter series, can be read even if you've not experienced the other books in this series. Ryan, a serious alpha male and an empath as well, knows Theresa is his mate. Theresa, a wolf shifter, knows that Ryan is her mate, and is getting frustrated beyond belief that he won't complete the mating with her. Theresa decides to get away from Ryan with another pack member, but when he hears about this, he gets extremely jealous, and  then when he finds out that her vehicle was ran off the road, he knows he will do anything to make her his, and protect her. This story started off fast, and the pace kept going throughout the book. *I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Teresa is frustrated. Her bondmate, Ryan, won't commit to their relationship. His rejection by his mother is holding him back. He doesn't want that to happen to his own cubs. What is she going to do? Suddenly Teresa is targeted by a vengeful enemy. Can Ryan protect what's his? I loved this action packed story. The adventures of the Armstrong-Cordona pack are always filled with danger and passion. I love catching up with these shifters and finding out what's happening. North Carolina's serenity provides a perfect background for the pack as they fight to protect those they care for. The males may be Alphas but their females are their match. They will stand strong and fight for their pack. I can't get enough of the Moon Shifter series. Katie Reus writes characters that pull me into the story. I couldn't stop reading Protective Instinct. I had to know that Teresa was safe with Ryan. I wasn't disappointed. This was a satisfying novel.

Okay, I got a chance to read Protective Instinct by Katie Reus. This story is part of the Moon Shifter series. Basically, this is Teresa and Ryan's story. We are going to recap what happen from Hunter Reborn (not really). Here we go: Natalie (Teresa's sister) kills a vampire that was pretty important. All is forgiven, because it was in self defense. We also find out that Ryan is empathic shifter, so when he finds his mate he can bond with her before the full moon. Basically, even having sex before either party is ready to bond can cause a bond. So, Ryan wants to give Teresa the choice to bond with him. That is super short recap on Hunter Reborn. Now we are jumping ahead to the actual story that we need to focus on Protective Instinct. Now Teresa wants to bond with Ryan, but Ryan wants to make sure truly wants. After all his parents accidentally bonded while having sex. See wants to give Teresa a choice, but it's driving Teresa bonkers. Poor Ryan he's trying to be noble, but at the same time hurting Teresa. During this story we see them trying to figure things out. Of course we have a problem, that stems back to Natalie killing a vampire. All was not forgiven, and now they have to deal with the aftermath. Okay, Protective Instinct is a fairly quick read that gives us a chance to see Ryan and Teresa get together. With all that heat that was passing through them in Hunter Reborn it was about time for them to get together. Of course it can't be all easy for them there has to be a little conflict that might endanger the couple and we find it. Overall, it was pretty good read gives a chance to see these guys get together. At times, I felt bad for Ryan, because he just made it harder on himself. If you have been wanting Teresa and Ryan to get together, your wish has been answer.

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 REVIEW:   As with all of Ms. Reus’ Moon Shifter series we have pain in the butt males, being well pain in the butt, drama, attempted murder and very nice sexy time.   I love this series.  Love this world.  And loved finally learning more about Teresa and Ryan.   This was a novella so it was a really quick read.   If you are a Moon Shifter series fan you will love this novella.  I so can’t wait for the next book in this series.  I am hoping that it Aldric!!   Disclaimer:  I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley & KR Press LLC, in exchange for an honest review. A woman worth fighting for…  Wolf shifter Teresa is blown away by her packmate Ryan’s honesty about his past and his rare empathic powers. She wants him in her bed—and her life. The only problem: Ryan insists they wait, because the last thing he wants is to recreate the hellish family he grew up in. Frustrated, Teresa jumps at the chance to assist a packmate off the ranch—far away from Ryan.  On the way, their vehicle is run off the road—and it wasn’t an accident. Ryan rushes to Teresa’s side, determined to protect her. But there’s a dangerous enemy lurking in the shadows, and if Ryan doesn’t break out of his old thinking and put his faith in his and Teresa’s love—and their ability to overcome obstacles together—it will be too late.  Review: This is one of my favorite series!   And was extremely happy to have a novella come out while we wait for the next full length story to come out.  Now, if you are familiar with the series, you know in the last book Teresa and Ryan finally let it out that they had a thing for each other and acted on it.  This story is kind of takes off from there with Ryan trying to protect Teresa by not mating with her and Teresa, so not going for that.  As well as she should, she is a smart capable woman and can make informed decisions about her life and mating.  Now, I understand that Ryan is nervous and does not want Teresa to fall into the same trap that his mother did, but come on, mate her already.  While he is hemming and hawing, a vampire has decided to get back at Teresa's sister by going after her and so the excitement begins.  There is a lot going on in this short story, there is the romance between Teresa and Ryan, we get some updates from other characters, there is vampires with revenge on their minds, action and suspense.  Really a well-rounded story.  This is story 5.5 in this series and it can be read as a stand alone, but really for reading enjoyment I would read them in order. Cannot wait until the next book! 4Stars *A copy of this book was provided by the Author in exchange for a fair and honest review*

Yay! Finally we get Ryan and Teresa's story! I love, love, LOVE Katie Reus' shifters. Ryan is an empath and although he knows Teresa is his mate he is reluctant to complete the bonding with her. His father accidentally bonded with his mother and she made his life a living hell because of it. He wants to make sure that the bonding is really what she wants but Teresa has had enough. She wants to bond with Ryan and is very frustrated by his reluctance. To get away from the situation for awhile Teresa agrees to help a packmate. While away from the ranch Teresa and her packmate are ran off the road and almost killed. Ryan is overcome with jealousy when he finds out Teresa has left with another male. When he finds out about the attack he goes into overprotective alpha mode and finally decides that it's time to claim her for good. This was an awesome novella and I think I loved the secondary story that was developing between Aldric and Natalia as much as I did Ryan and Teresa's story. A quick, sweet, but action packed read, Protective Instinct is another excellent addition to the Moon shifters series. *I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Loved it! This is a great book; this is book 5.5 of the Moon Shifter series by Katie Reus. Teresa is a wolf shifter and knows that her mate is Ryan. However, Ryan is worried and doesn’t want to rush Teresa into them mating. He does not want her to regret it later, because he has rare empathic powers. Teresa is about to go crazy with wanting to mate with Ryan. When she is asked to go on a trip, she jumps at the chance. On the way out of town their vehicle is run off the road and it wasn’t an accident. When Ryan rushes to her side and will do anything to protect her from the enemy, he realizes that he needs to mate with her soon. If you are looking for a short story that you can read in one sitting then you need to read this book. I can’t wait until the next book in this series comes out.  A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

A MUST-READ PARANORMAL ROMANCE SERIES! Loved it; couldn't put it down!! This installment of the Moon Shifter series gives us Teresa & Ryan's story. Ryan finally admits his feelings for Teresa and shares his secret of having empathic abilities. He wants to mate with her, and she with him, but he fears he'll create an unhappy relationship like his parents had.  Teresa is positive Ryan is the male for her, but he insists they wait to be sure; frustrated, she desperately needs space and time to think, so she accepts an offer to travel with a pack mate on a mission for their Alpha. On the way, they are rear-ended and run off the road. Was it an accident? Is someone targeting them? Is there a new evil lurking? As Ryan and Teresa figure out their relationship and the mystery of the accident, we also see the beginnings of a couple other relationships. I love this world and the Armstrong-Cordona pack. Really looking forward to the next installment of this fabulous series and hopefully more of Aldric & Natalia.  Highly recommended read and series! *ARC received by author in exchange for an honest review.

Enjoyed this story immensely. Both characters are so vulnerable to each other that it was heartbreaking to see them struggle through their relationship. The cast of characters in this series continues to provide support for the main characters, but also gives us a glimpse of more relationships to come. ** I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review.** Protective Instinct was a great paranormal read including both of my favorites, shifters and vampires. If you've read books from Katie Reus before you know her books have a good amount of passion, sexiness, laughs, revenge, a whole lot of anticipation and that's exactly what we get in this book. This is a short read but it doesn't lack any action and keeps you wanting more. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series to see what happens. If you haven't read a book from this author and you enjoy a good paranormal read, I suggest you give this author a try.

4.5 stars---PROTECTIVE INSTINCT is the latest novella (May 2015) in Katie Reus’s Moon Shifter contemporary, adult Moon Shifter paranormal romance series. This is wolf shifters Teresa and Ryan’s storyline which was building in Hunter Reborn-book five. PROTECTIVE INSTINCT can be read as a stand alone –Katie Reus adds information and backstory where necessary. Told from third person perspectives, the storyline forwards the series a few months. Ryan is an empath-a wolf shifter whose family history cripples Ryan from mate bonding with the woman that he loves-Teresa. Ryan’s parent’s dysfunctional relationship left lasting emotional scars on Ryan’s psyche and in this, he is cautious and hesitant about claiming his mate. While Ryan continues to deflect the urge to bond, Teresa becomes the target of revenge. While en route to check out some property for their pack Alpha, Teresa and Rafael are run off the road, by an unknown assailant-Ryan knows it is time to claim his mate. PROTECTIVE INSTINCT continues to build upon the Armstrong-Cordona Pack as they endeavor to protect themselves against rogue vampires and the Antiparanormal League (APL) whose objective is to destroy that which is deemed unnatural. But the APL is not at play with Teresa and the others, it is someone else seeking revenge for the death of a beloved maker. Teresa and her sisters are being stalked. A large number of the Armstrong-Cordona Pack play a secondary and supporting roles throughout the storyline including pack Alpha Connor and his mate Ana, Liam and a very pregnant December, pack enforcer Erin Flynn, and Teresa’s sisters Natalia and her possible future mate Aldric as well as Rosa and alpha Rafael. Katie’s characters and world building bring the love of family together throughout her storyline and series. PROTECTIVE INSTINCT is a quick read; a fast paced story of revenge, romance and family. Katie’s Moon Shifter world blends vampires and shifters, lupines and felines, friends, lovers and enemies into a storyline and series that are addicting, engaging and intense-a delightful and curious mix of paranormal romance and contemporary fun. You can’t help but fall in love.

“He’d almost lost Teresa once. He couldn’t lose her because of the past that had haunted him his entire life.” Another great addition to the series! In Hunter Reborn we got to see Ryan accepting his feelings towards Teresa and revealing his secret to her but he was still holding back. He was afraid he was pushing Teresa in a relationship she may not want. In Protective Instinct Teresa is done waiting. If her mate won’t claim her then she will have to take matters in her hands. Ryan knows that Teresa is his mate, he wants nothing more that to be with her but he isn’t sure if that’s what she wants. After his parents’ disastrous mating, he would never push Teresa into something like that. But what Ryan doesn’t understand is that Teresa wants nothing more that to be his mate. Time is running out, Teresa is at her limits and all the while old enemies arise to exact revenge for their fallen. Will Ryan claim his mate before it’s too late? This novella was such an enjoyable, sweet, short story. We got to meet Teresa and Ryan almost from the beginning of the series but it’s not until the previous book that the tension between them explodes. I was really excited to read their story. It’s not often that secondary characters get their own stories (even if it’s a novella) but when they do, I think that we should be grateful. I know that this is a paranormal book but the issues that Ryan and Teresa have to deal with are very real. All Ryan wants is Teresa’s happiness but he’s not sure if he can be what she wants, what she needs. Teresa knows that she’s willing to take the risk but will Ryan take the risk it too? What I also loved, apart from the main story, was the secondary one, Natalia and Aldric’s story. Wow! There was so much tension between them. Their scenes were short but anyone could see how comfortable they were with each other. I really can’t wait for their story. Aldric and Natalia’s story is going to be a unique one due to Aldric’s situation.  A beautiful, romantic short with a bit action, suspense and amazing characters. I’m pretty sure we get to see a glimpse of almost every character in the series. I loved that. Protective instinct is a must read for those of you who follow and love the series! Totally recommended! *ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review*

Complex and full of the delights that Moon Shifters are known for. Definately a great novella-must read ***A gifted copy was provided by the author for my honest review**** This is a novella in the Moon Shifter series. This is Teresa and Ryan’s story and what a story it is. Full of Action, Romance and Danger for our lovers in this paranormal story that is a continuation of their story. In Hunter Reborn we saw Ryan starting to accept how he was feeling toward Teresa and had revealed his secret to her but he still was holding things back from her; things because he didn’t want to have her commit to a relationship if she couldn’t love him for who and what he was. Now in Protective Instinct, we have the continuation of their story ; Teresa is done with giving Ryan time to commit. If her mate won’t claim her, won’t be with her, then she will have to do it herself and show her mate how things get done. Teresa knows that Ryan knows they are mates but she doesn’t understand why he is fighting their being together. Ryan knows they are mates, but he doesn’t know if she wants to be his mate. They are two people who are afraid to confront each other, because they love each other and do not want to lose each other but they are afraid to push the topic. Time is running out, running away because Teresa is at her breaking point and enemies are closing in fast to strike out , in revenge for old hurts they want to take part in . Does Teresa get Ryan to claim her as his mate ? Does Ryan take that chance and finally claim his mate before time runs out? This was such a wonderful novella in the Moon Shifter series. Teresa and Ryan were a great couple to root for. You wanted to see them together and you felt for them ; you felt everything that they were going thru. The action was intense yet at the same time, the romance between them as just as intense and hot. I have to say, I am so glad that they got their own story. Reason I say this, they were background characters in stories hardly ever get their stories and I applaud Ms. Reus for giving them their own story. I am glad to see their story play out and to see how they end up. I do want to say there is a secondary story in this novella as well- Natalia and Aldric’s story-Just have to say- OMG! It is awesome. So when you read this, you have a lot in this story to read and you will enjoy this. My rating: 4.6 stars ****

He’s taking certainty too far… This is a novella in the Moon Shifter series that can be read as a stand-alone. We learn about an interesting new type of shifter in this story, an empathic one who can sense emotions from others. Ryan O’Callaghan keeps his abilities hidden from the rest of the pack but he shared them with Teresa, the woman that he’s in love with. He wants to bond with her but he needs to know that she truly wants to be mated with him forever and so he has kept her at a distance for he could accidentally bond with her during sex before she was ready due to his powers. That is what happened to his parents and they did not have a good life together. He hasn’t been able to let go of those past childhood memories and having adopted a cub he has not just himself to consider. Teresa Cordona is sexually frustrated by the shifter that she loves. It’s hard keeping her wolf under control when her human side is feeling just as unsatisfied. She understands Ryan’s history and knows of his secret abilities but he’s denying them what they both want and not having faith in the love that she has expressed to him, in the love that they supposedly share. Needing some physical space from him she goes off the pack’s property on business with a single male shifter who’s just a friend. What should have been a simple task turns deadly when their vehicle is run off the road and Teresa is injured. Learning of Teresa being in an accident sends Ryan into a tailspin on top of the jealously that he was feeling learning that she left with another male. This was a very sweet romance with a very hesitant male, knowing what he absolutely wants yet afraid to take the final steps because of family history. It takes almost losing Teresa to make Ryan get his act together but now he has to convince Teresa of it amidst pack turmoil for the accident wasn’t an accident and an unknown danger now follows them.  I love revisiting this pack. Ryan and Teresa are likable characters that are both very stubborn. I loved Teresa’s sassiness and Ryan’s devotion to making sure that she’ll be happy with him even if he did go to extreme measures. I wanted to smack him a few times for Teresa’s sake. The danger that they faced is a carryover from the prior book but enough information is disseminated so that you don't feel as if you missed anything. This was an enjoyable addition to the series. I was so excited for this story to be written. Teresa and Ryan are crazy about each other and they know they are mates however Ryan is still reluctant to mark and bond with Teresa. Well she decides she needs some time away and while out with one of her pack members all kinds of crazy happens. In the previous book if you have read it you know Teresa has a few sisters and one of them decided to kill an ancient vampire.  Not out of spite but to save her life. Now that is all I am going to give you about that.  As per Katie's style she gives us a crap load of action, suspense and a whole lot of HOT alpha male in this story. And we also get a few sneak peeks I call them at whose story may be next WOW is all I can say give me more.  This was a short story but a nicely packed one. LOVE this series. I was gifted this book for my honest review.
