After a very rough beginning in life as a puppy mill dog, Henley was rescued and then adopted into a loving home. His life was a full one, and a happy one.
Henley became a Therapy Dog, a Reading Buddy, a Humane Education Ambassador, and the author of his very own book, "My Name is Henley: My life and times as a rescued dog."
Thousands upon thousands of children embraced his story and his mission to find happily-ever-afters for all our animal friends. "Living a life that values life," and being "the voice for those who cannot speak for themselves," were the words upon which his mission was founded.
Sadly, Henley's own life came to an end on March 13th, 2010, just three days after his twelfth birthday - but his story continues.
In true "Henley" tradition, this dear old dog comforts us once again - now from another place - to help those who have suffered the loss of a pet, and to give them a sense of closure. Yes, the tears and sadness are normal, feeling the loss is normal, and so is moving forward - to honor that much-loved friend and pet. May this gentle sheepdog's words bring you comfort, smiles, understanding, and a reason to celebrate rich memories that live on and on.
Even in the darkest of situations you can find the light...if you look in the right places.
And this book is one of those places.

I HAVE JUST FINISHED READING THIS BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE TO HENLEY. I LOST MY DARLING GOLDEN RETRIEVER ON 29 MARCH 2010 SO AM AT THE SAME STAGE OF MOURNING AS JUDITH AND HER FAMILY. MY BABY WOULD HAVE BEEN 14 THIS AUGUST I HAD HIM FROM A 8 WEEK OLD PUPPY. MY LIFE IS FEELING EMPTY BUT READING THIS BOOK YESTERDAY HAS GIVEN ME THE STRENGTH TO FACE UP TO HOPING TOBY IS WAITING AT THE BRIDGE WITH MY OTHER FURRY ANGELS FOUR GOLDEN RETRIEVERS AND TWO SPANIELS. I CAN THOUROUGLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK ALSO THE PREVIOUS OF HENLEYS LIFE STORY. I HAVE ALSO A RESCUED GOLDEN WHO IS NOW 8 SHE WAS LEFT AT THE VETS WHEN SHE WAS 5 WITH A POORLY PAW THE PEOPLE DID NOT WANT HER AS SHE WOULD BE EXPENSIVE TO TREAT SO I HAVE AN EMPATHY WITH THE FAMILY. SHE MISSES HER BROTHER VERY MUCH SO WE ARE LOOKING TO RESCUE ANOTHER IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE. MY OTHER FURRY ANGELS WILL NEVER BE REPLACED AS THEY ALL HAD DIFFERENT CHARACTERS BUT I NOW FEEL THE TIME IS RIGHT TO GIVE A POOR ABANDONED A FRESH START. READ THESE BOOKS THEY ARE EXCELLENT
I read this story before the book was published. What a wonderful heartwarming story. Henley's journey to the Rainbow Bridge is comforting to those- children and adults- who have lost a beloved pet. It's what every pet lover want to believe happens when their pet passes on. I highly recommend this book for pet lovers of all ages. I want to also give a very public THANK YOU to the author, Judith Kristen for mentioning my beloved OES rescue Shylow in this story. M.Saltzman
I previewed this book a month ago. I was a bit reluctant, having lost our dear Corgi, Phyllis, in December - but this was the cure for what ailed me. The Rainbow Bridge (a dog's story) is the comfort you need to not only hear, but believe, in those tough times following the loss of a furry family member. Written in the dog's voice it truly takes you to that wonderful place (The Rainbow Bridge) that we have all read and heard about. You will find yourself smiling as you envision your own beloved animal up there with Henley and Mandy and all the other dear ones in your life from days gone by. The cover and the final page in the book's story (another illustration) are two other beautiful additions to the closure you need, and the happiness you will feel when this story is in your hands. On the back of the book it says: Even in the darkest of situations you can find the light, IF you look in the right places ---- and this book is one of those places. Yes, indeed it is.
