For the very beginner (that's me) this book can be overwhelming until you familiarize yourself with the content. There is A LOT of planning for many of the recipes and I don't have the majority of the ingredients in my cabinets so I make frequent trips to Whole Foods. I now use it in conjunction with a raw food book that's a little easier, for now, and has quicker recipes in it. It's a definite necessity if you're looking to get serious about raw food (Sprouting grains!!). I often compare it to the Betty Crocker red and white checkered cookbook that tells you everything about everything . It's not just a recipe book, it's a reference book. It really is great, you just need to be ready for it.

highly recommended for any person who desires to add more living foods to their nutrition or to understand some reasonings behind eating a raw diet.

I'm new to Raw Food and was looking for a "cookbook" that would be a good starting point. My sister, who is a raw foodist, recommended  anything by Alissa Cohen. I saw this book in the store and picked it up and took it straight to the register. I read it on the train ride home, and I just loved it. What a great recommendation! There is a whole chapter dedicated to tools needed, as well as a chapter devoted to sprouting,  and then, of course, are the recipes. The beautiful recipes. I love that there are many quick and simple ones, as well as gourmet and  more involved recipes. It was the perfect book for me to get my kitchen set up and get started with Raw!
