Reconstructing Meredith by Lauren Gallagher

"Scott, I need your help."

Five words from a woman he hasn't seen in five years, and Scott Moore's world is thrown off its axis. Ex-girlfriend Meredith has resurfaced with a past full of horrific abuse at the hands of a man who called himself a Dom, and she has the scars to prove it. Now she needs Scott's help to reclaim her sexuality and put the past behind her.

Scott is more than willing to help, but he has no idea the toll it will take on him, not to mention his other polyamourous relationships. What's more, while Scott and Meredith face down her demons, their own past won't be forgotten. Neither will Scott's feelings for Meredith...

About the Author

Lauren Gallagher is an abnormal romance writer who has recently been exiled from the glittering utopia of Omaha, Nebraska, to an undisclosed location in South America. Along with her husband, a harem of concubines, and a phosphorescent porcupine, she remains, as always, in hiding from the Polynesian Mafia. For the moment, she seems to have eluded her nemesis, M/M romance author L.A. Witt, but figures L.A. will eventually become bored with the wilds of Spain and come looking for her. And when that time comes, Lauren will be ready. Assuming L.A. doesn't have her hands full keeping track of Lori A. Witt and Ann Gallagher, which she probably will.

Definitely on the must read list. Realistic psychology in this story. If you like this one, and I'm pretty sure you will, read The Relictant Dom. Both are excellent.

My Review: This was a really powerful story. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to enjoy it because it's really serious stuff that this couple is dealing with, but I absolutely LOVED this book. Everything about this book was different. Scott is a Dom who has a couple of girlfriends. They also have a couple of boyfriends each. Seven years ago, he dated Meredith and although their breakup was amicable, it was not what he wanted. He never got over her and has always wondered what happened when she completely dropped off the face of the earth five years ago. At the time of their original relationship, they didn't participate in a Dom/sub relationship, but now Meredith has come to him for help. She's a sub, but her ex-husband who acted as her Dom horribly abused her and tortured her for 2 1/2 years. Now he's in jail and she's trying to recover the pieces of her shattered sexuality. She needs a Dom she can trust to not abuse her. Scott knows there's no one else he would trust in that relationship except himself. Meredith is shattered and it will take tons of patience to heal her. The most amazing thing about this book is Scott's character. The entire book is told from his POV and it's incredibly moving. He's shattered by what's happened to Meredith. He attends her therapy sessions with her and is constantly fighting against becoming physically ill when she describes what she's withstood. For me, the intrigue of the book was whether or not HE was going to survive this relationship with Meredith. While she's healing, it's almost like he's taking on her pain himself. It's all so incredibly personal to him because he loves her. Really emotional. The book is also incredibly erotic. This book is entirely about the sex and usually that becomes redundant in a full length novel. That is not the case with this book. It's really, really fabulously done. This story line was riveting. The sex was hot. The characters were amazing. On the surface this is a book that I wasn't sure I could enjoy. I don't usually like reading heavy BDSM, but this book worked on every level. I could believe these relationships and how they worked for these characters. It was just an incredible book!!!
