Overview

Rip by Rachel Van Dyken

Pretty things aren't meant to be broken.
But I broke her, and now we both have to pay the price.
I'm her nightmare.
I'm her savior.
And now that I have her signature on an ironclad contract, I own her body and soul.
She doesn't remember me.
She will.
It's inevitable.
Because as much as I know I need to stay away, for fear of unlocking the memories I helped her father bury--I can't.
She was the apple in the Garden, dangled in front of me, her core so tempting and sweet. A voice whispered. Just. One. Bite.
I bit.
I tasted.
I fell.
Welcome to the world of the Russian mafia, where death, is your only future.

Love love love this book! Nik and Maya are perfect for each other and I definitely want to read more about them. This book was the perfect emotional rollercoaster that had me hooked on the first page. I adore Nik and how much he loves Maya. And all the twists in this book flowed perfectly together. Please write more about Nik and Maya they are my absolute favorite!

Rip is another great mafia book by Rachel Van Dyken. This book does not focus on the Italians like the Eagle Elite Series, although they do make a few appearances in it. Rip is about Nikolai, a Doctor of many talents. He works for the Russian Mafia to protect his family, who has their own dark secrets. And Maya the beautiful and intelligent daughter of Petrov, the Russian mafia boss. Petrov sold his daughter Maya to Dr. Nikolai Blazik, to be his intern for a year. Maya shows up to interview Nikolai, and nothing is the same after that. This is a wonderful story, with a crazy old lady, a bit of the hot Italians, some sexy Russians, some hypnotizing, lots of action, and lots of romance. I love how everything seems so real. It was a little more intense than her other mafia books, but overall an amazing read!!!

A standalone novel related to Rachel van Dyken's Eagle Elite series, RIP tells the story of Maya and Nikolai. They both have horrific pasts and in order to be together, they will have to reveal and overcome their past. Maya, a damaged yet strong willed woman, and Nikolai, a genius with a spotty family history, are bound together by so much more than their eventual love for each other. I am a HUGE fan of Rachel's books. RIP is no different. She pulled me in from the very beginning and kept me hooked until the last page. Her writing has the ability to capture you and pull you into her books without warning. With all of the twists and turns that she throws at you in this book, she will make you become addicted to her books. An ARC of this book was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

Another great read by Rachel. There were a few things that I didn't see coming till they were right around the corner. I think this is one of my favorite books by her and that says a bunch considering I love most of her books. I highly recommend this book. I was given an arc for an honest review.

I am such a huge fan of Rachel Van Dyken, and her Eagle Elite Series is one of my all-time favorites. RIP is a standalone novel, but is also sort of a spin-off from that in the sense that we met Nikolai briefly in that series, and.....all the badass hot boys from the Eagle Elite Series do make an appearance in RIP. That said, again, it is a standalone and you do not have to read any of the Eagle Elite Series to enjoy it, but those of you who have will definitely appreciate the glimpse we get of the characters we all fell in love with over the course of the Eagle Elite Series. RIP is also a little different that the Eagle Elite Series in that it was a dark romantic suspense, but also had a psychological thriller feel to it with some really good scary and creepy vibes mixed in. In RIP, Rachel Van Dyken takes us right into the heart of the sinister Russian mafia world. The deepest, darkest, secrets come forth and you find out first hand the things some legends are made of...literally. There is always the hint of mystery surrounding things, making you wonder just how sane or how not so sane some of the characters really are. Nikolai Blazik is a genius, a doctor, and possesses talents the likes of which has set him apart from the rest of the world and virtually no one can come close. He is also extremely handsome, sexy, and mysterious, but boy does he have a dark side as well. Maya is the daughter of a Russian mob boss, and she and Nikolai have ties that go back much farther than she is even aware of. She is really the the one who is closest to normal out of the whole bunch, despite all the bad stuff happening to and around her. Their "arrangement" is strange, to say the least, as are the circumstances surrounding it, but it makes for some really interesting reading. The romance is hot, which is trademark Rachel Van Dyken, and while I wasn't as drawn to Nikolai as I was the Eagle Elite Hotties, I can certainly say that he was definitely right up there with them in that department. The story is shrouded in mystery that unfolds as the tale progresses, some of which I saw coming, and some which surprised me. Overall, RIP is a great story and something I would definitely recommend checking out.

This book felt different for me than the Eagle Elite series. It’s so raw, filled with suspense and a plot that had me asking so many questions. Nik was a puzzle that I couldn’t piece together. I found myself trying to read faster, wanting answers to the mystery that was Nik and Maya. For a spin off book, this one takes the cake for me. I really can’t go into the story line with this one without ruining it, so I won’t. I will say that Nik is one that you can’t not love. No matter how bad it gets, he’s still loveable. The decisions he makes are incredibly hard. Maya is someone that I really admired. When faced with the worst, she powered through and didn’t let anything cloud her judgement. She was strong, confident and fought hard. This is a must read recommendation for me. If you want suspense, sweetness, sexy moments and a book that will make your mind whirl, then this one is for you too.

Maya and Nik have a history that Maya is unaware of. Nik was coerced by her father to make her forget something she saw and made her believe she was in a car accident. Nik is a master at breaking people and manipulating them to think things are a certain way, when they are something entirely different. He hypnotizes them and gives them trigger words and, in Maya's case, cracking her knuckles so she keeps her past buried. Nik is still being blackmailed by her father and finds himself signing a contract to get Maya back into his life. Maya is a pawn her father uses without any guilt or conscience and finds herself a basic prisoner for the next year working for Nik. Nik knows he is walking a tightrope and his aunt, Jac, is definitely a loose cannon that is coming off the rails. Much of what Nik does is surrounded in mystery and intrigue and Maya finds herself trying to unravel his personality, as well as what he does at work. Maya finds herself drawn to Nik but keeps having flashbacks that are scaring her. Nik knows this could all blow up in his face and finds himself asking for help from the "Italians". Maya is forced to deal with a whole bunch of secrets coming to light almost at once and then finds herself fighting for her life. It had a great flow to the story and kept me intrigued to see what was going to happen next. I did have a hard time with Maya just forgiving and forgetting all that was done to her and that took away from the story a little bit for me.

“One of the greatest lies you will ever believe is that you can sin in silence and get away with it. Because most of the time silence is the loudest, it demands to be known, to be heard.” I am addicted. I mean completely addicted to the mafia books Rachel Van Dyken writes. With each new book, I find myself falling deeper and deeper in love with the characters and their stories. This book was no exception. RIP is a spin off from the Eagle Elite series, but can be read as a standalone. However, I do recommend reading the others books as I think you will enjoy this book more, knowing the full history. RIP pulled me in from the very first page and held me captive the entire time. This story is well written and I think I has a little bit darker tone to it, than the other books in the Eagle Elite series. I loved the mystery and intrigue. I had so much fun trying to figure out exactly what was the connection between Nikolai and Maya. Nikolai both scared and terrified me, but there was so much more to him than meets the eye. And Maya, well, let’s just say she has been through a lot and even though Nikolai is terrifying, he might just be exactly what Maya needs. The minute I step into the mafia world that Rachel Van Dyken has created, I don’t want to leave. I want to live there forever and become a part of the story. It is so easy to get lost in the characters and their story. Even though this story is a bit darker, there is no shortage of romance and drama. I loved all the action and suspense. There certainly was never a dull moment. And this book was filled with lots of delicious twists that kept you guessing right until the very end. RIP is one of those stories that just consumes you and doesn’t want to let you go. By the time you are finished, you are wishing that there was another book to read. You don’t want the story to ever end. Rachel Van Dyken has knocked it out of the park with this book and I can’t wait to see where she will take me next! *I was provided an ARC copy of this book via InkSlinger PR, in exchange for an honest review.*

4.5 star The story has secrets, twist & turns and edge of your seat suspense. This story will have you getting to know Nikolai and Maya. Maya is going to be Nikolai’s intern for about 1 year. Nikolai is a special doctor that can help you erase your memories by using pain and pleasure. He is bossy, controlling, and twisted. There are a ton of secrets in this story but you will only ever figure out the full story by reading the entire book. The clues are throughout the story. What happens when why taking memories away old ones you thought were gone come sneaking back in? What happens when feelings become involved? As they pull back the layers will it make it better or worse for Maya? Is she safe? Is the doctor the enemy? What does he want from her in the end? Will she be a shell of a woman in the end or be the one in control? I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I highly recommend this book.

★★★★★ After the brief glimpses of Nikolai Blazik in Elude I really wasn't sure what to expect going into Rip but I really enjoyed learning all about him, and Maya too! Rip is an Eagle Elite series spin off but a warning to you squeamish ones, there is a fair bit of bloodshed in this one and in some unique ways too. I was so surprised by how much I loved Nik and Maya and more than that their journey, their relationship is just so complex and unique, totally unexpected in so many ways. Their story unfolds in the most gripping way, so gripping in fact that I was hooked within a few chapters, pages probably if I'm honest with myself. My emotions were up and down from the very first page, it was like they were on a trampoline flying into the air before they came crashing back down again right a long with Nik and Maya's no doubt! The story quite literally has everything, great characters, amazing storyline and the Italians that I have grown to love from the Eagle Elite series, they definitely injected some humour in places that had me laughing so hard, the Italian and Russian banter always made me grin without fail. It has to be said that Rachel knows how to create some phenomenal characters, all of her past characters are proof of that and Nik and Maya are no exception, they are fully formed and so unique from anything I've ever read that it truly is mind blowing, they have flaws just like real, living, breathing people and that is one of the many things that set Rachel's books apart for me, her very real characters. Thank you Rachel for another incredible book! :) ****ARC received in exchange for an honest review****
