Deputy Sheriff Sterling McCallum gives Jessica Larson a stern warning—he doesn’t want any woman in his life, let alone someone like her. The brooding rogue cop has a stone in place of a heart and a past as mysterious as the case that brings them together. But this time Jessica finds that, despite herself, she can’t back off Sterling. Something compels the social worker to stand her ground and brave the emotions this fascinating man arouses within her. But when their darkest secrets and deepest desires come to the surface, can Jessica and Sterling brave these earth-shattering revelations?

However, unlike what the advertisement says, this is not a new book. Everytime a new Diana Palmer book comes out, I check my collection. This was previously published in 1994, under Silhouette. If you do not own many Diana Palmer, or if you don't own this one, I highly recommend it. However, if you're like me, and have a good collection going, I would check it first, to make sure you don't already have this "new" book. It should also, in fact, say Montana Mavericks.

Rogue Stallion is a romance novel by Diana Palmer and is the first book in the Montana Mavericks series. Social worker Jessica Larson and Deputy Sheriff Sterling McCallum both have dark secrets in their past. Jessica seems determined to draw Sterling out, yet when he wants to get closer, she backs off. And then someone comes to Whitethorn spreading rumours about her that have Sterling doubting her honesty. This is a somewhat slow-moving romance that touches on domestic violence and alcoholism. Characters from the next book in the series, The Widow and the Rodeo Man, by Jackie Merritt, are introduced here. This book ends with an unsolved murder that extends into the next few books of the series and rather stretches credibility: a bride somehow finds time during her wedding to stab and kill an unknown man without getting blood on her dress. The main story has a bit of heartbreak with a happy ending making it a sweet romance.

Overall, this book was a nice quick read. I liked McCallum's character alot while I thought Jessica's character was so-so. This is the perfect book to spend reading on the porch one afternoon. No bad for my first Diana Palmer book.

I really enjoyed this book. These characters have "issues", I find that the characters can be a little over the top. This was not the case for these characters. The storyline was different aswell so that was nice to read.
