This book ends with the characters in the middle of a dangerous, problematic situation. At that point, the author's note tells the reader that it is meant to be a standalone novel BUT if you want to read more, there are follow-ups. If this is a standalone novel, the author needs to learn how to end a story. Learning how to begin a story would help also, as I was lost for the first chapter or so trying to figure out who was who and what the fantasy world was all about. Some rewriting and editing would help. Once it got going, I did find myself interested in the characters, their growing attachment to each other, their struggles, and their plight. However, unless the story was re-written and brought to a more conclusive end, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I loved it. The storyline was creative and original. The characters were understandable and interesting. It was originally made as a short standalone.. but has been turned into a 4 piece series. I see why!

I somehow missed that this was a gay romance. What I did read was well written and the breeding of the Royals was interesting....just not my cup of tea. I couldnt get into the story emotionally.
