Sam's Creed by Sarah McCarty

Known for making up his own rules of right and wrong, Texas Ranger Sam "Wildcard" MacGregor takes what he wants when he wants it, especially when it comes to women. But seduction is the last thing on his mind when he stumbles across a beauty crouching in fear beside a burned-out wagon.

Isabella may look feminine and unassuming, but she's hell in a bodice with gunslinging skills to match any man's. The woman the townsfolk call "cursed" is hiding secrets too dangerous to face alone. Luckily, she sees in Sam what he can barely glimpse in himself—a virtuous man in a hard country bent on breaking him. A man who, under it all, craves a passionate woman willing to risk everything….

In 1858 bone weary Texas Ranger Sam 'Wild Card' MacGregor sees the two burned out wagons and thinks how ugly people are to one another. Tired he sees two bodies bloated by the sun and expects to find women and children, as wagons usually mean dependents. Accompanied by Kell the dog, they find more corpses and one lively female survivor. Isabella Montoya explains to Sam they are dead because of her though she was not with them when they died. --- He offers to take her home, bit she explains she is engaged in an arranged marriage to Tejala a nasty villain she refuses to wed. Sam insists on taking her back to her family's ranch, but she explains Tejala's odious henchmen stalk the spread. When they come close to her ranch, he realizes she was telling the truth as Tejala¿s thugs abound obviously seeking her out and would kill him to get her. Meanwhile wealthy Bella decides to seduce Sam into marrying her she figures it helps that she is attracted to him and more important he is an honorable person who also can protect her. Sam wants the woman who almost accidentally killed him when they met, but tries to be honorable as he knows she is an innocent siren. --- As with CAINE¿S RECKONING, Sarah McCarty provides an entertaining Hell¿s Eight erotic Texas Ranger pre-Civil War romance. The story line is fast-paced mostly due to the powerful relationship between Sam and Bella, whose exchanges makes the tale. Although Tejala is a stereotypical avarice serial killing villain, fans will appreciate the lone ranger with his horse and dog falling in love with a spitfire heiress. --- Harriet Klausner

I actually have this as an ebook...on my laptop. It is a great read! I loved Bella's antics, as well as Sam's answer to them. Also loved how Sam took care of Bella despite his rough exterior. It is a erotic, romantic Western story...great for those that love stories about tough guys falling head over heels for a lady.

The second book in the Hell's Eight Series and it was just as wonderful as the first! I love how Bella is a rough and tough sassy chick and how Sam handles her with charm and wit. They are a great match for each other and the story is steaming with romance. Couldn't put it down!

Read all the Hell's Eight books up to shadow and lookingback I think this one was my favorite-because of sam. He was "hard to get" which I had really expected with tracker but that didn't really happen. Anyway, this was the most intriguing and had the most chemistry.

I really like these books about Hells Eight, but I sometimes wish there was a little more detail on other parts of the story.

Sarah is a talented writer and has an ejoyable writing style. She is able to bring the west to life. I've enjoyed all the books in this series. The hell's eight men are alpha males, sexy, strong and loving. My only complaint is that the men are a bit similar, but I still can't wait for more in the series. The women are perky and interesting. The sex scenes are hot, definitely fun to read.
