Say You’re Sorry was a fantastic start to the Morgan Dane series. I have not read the Scarlet Falls series that was published before this, so some of the connections were not clear at the beginning of the book, but it did not diminish the enjoyment I had while listening to this book. The narration was well done with a lot of expression that added to my enjoyment of the story. After losing her husband in Iraq, Morgan Dane has returned to her hometown of Scarlet Falls to raise her three girls with the help of her family. This story picks up two years after Morgan returned home. She has been offered a job working at the DA's office when her life is thrown into chaos. Her young neighbour has been accused of murdering her old babysitter. The family can not afford a top notch lawyer, and on impulse, Morgan offers to take his case pro bono. She is sure that he is innocent. Recruiting an old boyfriend and ex-cop, who is now working as a PI, they begin their investigation to prove Nick innocent. The only way to do that is to find the real killer. Morgan is an incredibly strong and brave character, in fact some may think she is rash and impulsive. She also has a great sense of loyalty for those she cares about which is how she ends up involved in this case at all. I love that, as busy as she is, she still makes sure she spends quality time with her daughters. Lance is dealing with his own issues. He was shot while still working on the police force and even though he enjoys the leeway he has working as a PI, he misses his prior job. I really enjoyed the working relationship Morgan and Lance have. They feed off each other well and Lance is very protective of Morgan. I will be watching to see if they develop a romantic relationship as this series moves forward. The mystery surrounding Tessa's death and the disappearance of another girl was intriguing. There were several suspects over the course of the book which led to constant twists and turns. Each of these suspects often revealed another secret in Scarlet Falls. I suspected several people, but never actually the person figured out the killer until just prior to the reveal. Some other readers thought the book was slow, but I felt the pace was just right. I listened to it in one day and didn't want to take any breaks, as I was pulled right into the story. This book is listed as a Romantic Suspense, but I think it was more Suspense Mystery, as I mentioned earlier, perhaps the romance is yet to come. I recommend this story to Mystery, Thriller, Suspense, or Romantic Suspense lovers.

Lots of great mystery in this book! It kept you guessing who had committed the murder. Great variety of characters that kept you interested. I enjoyed the fact that there were several mysteries involved at the same time. A little too much romantic mush between a couple of the characters for my taste. But still the relationship dynamics for the most part were very interesting and had you developing intense feelings...both good and bad...for them. This author does a great job in character development and creating an interesting story line without giving away any secrets. You're left to figure out the ending on your own by reading very word on every page. Did you guess the right person is guilty?

Attorney Morgan Dane and Lance Kruger, an ex-cop turned private eye take on a pro-bono case to set an innocent young man free and to find the real killer of Morgan's Babysitter Tessa. 4 Stars for the very strong start, suspenseful storytelling, plenty of bad guys to keep you guessing, and likable characters that I'd like to read more about. 3.5 stars for an ending that seemed rushed. Seriously, the real villian just blurts out I DID IT and here's why. Ugh. And please get Morgan some bubblewrap, knee pads, and a bodyguard. She gets wounded or stumbles into a life-threatening situation every other chapter. While I am a klutz myself, it seems a bit unbelievable. Overall, a fast, fun, and easy read. Like a Beach Read Mystery but that's okay. I like them. Favorite lines.... "He would use information as ammunition. He would find her weaknesses. If you drilled enough holes in any foundation, it would crumble." "He felt like a twelve-year-old cruising past his secret crush’s house on his Schwinn." “I have three kids under the age of seven. You’ll pry the coffee from my cold, dead hands.”

SAY YOU'RE SORRY by Melinda Leigh. In this tale, we are introduced to Morgan Dane, a lawyer working for the District Attorney's office. She's a widowed, single mom that is trying to find the balance between work and family. I liked her a lot - she's tough and wants to fight for what is right, but underneath, she's vulnerable and still reeling from her husband's passing. Lance is a former police officer, now a private investigator. Having known Morgan for many years, they will now work together to find the truth. Ms. Leigh certainly fills this story with twists and turns. Every time I thought I knew who the bad guy was, I was wrong! It kept me turning the page to see who it was and what might happen next. The story has danger and suspense with a sprinkle of romance thrown in. If that's you're cup of tea, don't miss out on this one.

I pretty much have read everything by Melinda Leigh. So it won't come as much of a shock that I jumped at the chance to get an advance copy of her lasted series Morgan Dane Say Your Sorry. Melinda Leigh as the ability to create characters that readers connect with from the leads in the story to a child even a grandfather. Each characters has a purpose and and reason for being in the story. The story starts off with a murder that will take readers ride of who is the real killer and a romance of two characters so real they feel like friends. The story moves along to a good pace never slowing down but giving readers time to recover from one chapter to the next. Melinda Leigh is an wonderful Mystery Romantic Suspense author with her ability to have readers connect to the characters, the town and the people who surrounded them. The Lance is able to give readers a male figure who is someone you could meet walking down the street and Morgan is the mom next door who you want to me friends with. I am excited to see where the author has these two headed in the future. Thank you to the author, publishing company and Netgalley for the advance copy.

Received an ARC for my fair review for netgalley. This is a new series starting Morgan Dane. Normally I know who did it, at the beginning, so this had me questioning it. Morgan returns to her hometown after losing her husband, only to arrive when her younger sister is murdered and her neighbor is charged. His family hires her, and town was not happy. How could she represent him? She did not believe he did it. There was so many things that would surprise you. She joins Sharpe investigations, and then the interesting stuff, really comes out... I do not give spoilers, so just read it.

Former Prosecutor Morgan Dane and her three young daughters have returned to her hometown of Scarlet Falls, following the death of her husband while serving our country in Iraq. Now that she's near family and old friends, and with the promise of working with the District Attorney, she feels she's finally ready to put her grief aside and start her life again. All goes well until her teenage babysitter is found murdered. The accused is her neighbor's son, Nick, who is just a few years older than the sitter. Nick was a frequent visitor in Morgan's home, entertaining her daughters, playing chess or checkers with her father. Nick's father begs for help for him and Morgan agrees. Deep down, Morgan just cannot accept that Nick could murder anyone. Her decision turns her neighbors and friends against her and she loses the lucrative job before she even begins putting together a defense for Nick. Needing an investigator, she turns to her friend Lane Kruger, an ex-cop turned private eye. Morgan and Lance are going to have to battle the community, the cops, the DA. As they systematically interview and question the girl's friends and family, they learn that just about every teenager in town knows something they aren't sharing. Meanwhile more evidence is stacking up against Nick. Never a dull moment in this book! I really enjoyed how law enforcement worked with a private eye... just a touch of distrust on both sides, especially as the police looked in one direction only and never considered anyone else a suspect. There's an attraction between Morgan and Lance, she's a bit hesitant, he's determined not to scare her away. There's a little bit of everything here .... a sadistic killer, a young murder victim who argued with her grandparents the very last time they saw her, a young man accused of a brutal crime, who only wants to continue helping his father with a landscaping business, a friend of the victim who seems to be in hiding... but from what? Many thanks to the author / Montlake Romance / Netgalley for the digital copy of this romantic suspense. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Say You’re Sorry is the fourth romantic suspense that I have read by Melinda Leigh. It takes place in Scarlet Falls, New York which gives the book a small town feel without it being isolated. There is an interesting sense of community that easily gets upended when a teenage girl is murdered and her former boyfriend quickly becomes the prime suspect due to political reasons. Fortunately, there are still some people in town that are interested in putting the evidence above politics. Morgan Dane is a single mother of three whose husband was killed in Iraq two years ago. Morgan has decided that it is time to get back to work as the prosecutor she once was and is days away from starting her new job in the District Attorney’s office when her neighbor’s son Nick is accused of murdering his former girlfriend Tessa who was also Morgan’s babysitter. Before she realizes it, Morgan has decided to become Nick’s defense attorney. Knowing that she needs someone she can trust to help her clear Nick’s name and find the real killer, Morgan employs the help of former Scarlet Falls Police Officer turned Private Investigator Lance Kruger. Since Morgan and Lance dated back in high school, there is definitely some chemistry there. As the investigation progresses, members of the community begin to show their true colors and Morgan soon finds out that her hometown isn’t as warm and fuzzy as she thought. Say You’re Sorry is a testament to the fact that no one really knows their neighbors. We may see them everyday but we don’t really know them. A lot of secrets are revealed. Some of which are totally unexpected and change the lives of several families not directly related to the murder. Even Morgan is more than meets the eye. She comes off as a girly girl but she is a strong and capable woman. She comes from long line of law enforcement members and it shows. I really loved her character and the way that she pursued Nick’s innocence. There are a lot of twists and turns so expect to be surprised by the outcome. **Received a copy of the book from the publisher and voluntarily reviewed.**

If you haven't bought this book, you should. If you haven't read Melinda Leigh, well lucky you, there are several waiting to be devoured. This is the start of a new series. I enjoyed the heroine, strong women, some males, and always a mystery and suspense. I love that there is usually an animal somewhere in her books, such a relate able point. She brings up some hefty subjects, with a classy touch. Thank you Melinda and thank you Netgalley.

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 1/2 I really enjoyed the twists and turns that this story took. From page one I know this story was going to be a twisted one. Ms. Leigh did a wonderful job of keeping us on our toes with who our killer could possibly be. I loved the Morgan is flawed. She is a young widow and mother of three young girls. I enjoyed watching her find her footing and learn to live again. Lance is great!! I love the scene of Lance and Ava it is so sweet and I can’t wait for little Sophie to realize that Lance is the bomb! Wonderful story!! I am so glad that Ms. Leigh is writing a new series that is in Scarlet Falls. I love seeing some of the old characters along with all the new ones. I have very high hopes for Morgan’s series!! I can’t wait for the next installment in this series!! Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley & Montlake Romance in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

From the riveting, terrifying first few pages to the the very last page, I was held spellbound by this story! When a brutal murder demanding a quick resolution results in a possibly innocent young man being accused of the crime, former prosecutor Morgan Dane reacts with both her heart and head to determine where justice lies. Once again we return to Scarlet Falls, New York, where Morgan has returned home with her three adorable daughters to live with her grandfather after her soldier husband is killed in Iraq. After two years of grieving and settling back home, Morgan is days away from returning to the workforce in her field of criminal prosecution. But when her sometime babysitter Tessa is brutally murdered and Morgan’s neighbor Nick, Tessa recent boyfriend, is arrested for the crime, Morgan’s attorney senses are tingling. As the blurb for the book states, Morgan winds up taking on Nick’s defense in the face of hostility from the town and law enforcement officials, including Morgan’s almost-now-ex-boss the District Attorney. Lance Kruger, a former Scarlet Falls police officer who is now working as a private investigator, has known Morgan forever. Although always friends, Morgan and Lance sense something more may be developing between them but now Nick’s case is a priority. The evidence against Nick seems just too convenient and officials too anxious to obtain Nick’s conviction. It is up to Morgan and Lance to determine who really killed Tessa…. I have to be honest - I usually shy away from a series where each book has the same hero and heroine - I like my romantic suspense books to be stand-alones with a satisfying conclusion and HEA. When I learned of this 3-book series, with Morgan and Lance front and center in each one, I was curious but uncertain if I would enjoy it as much as Ms. Leigh’s other books. Well, I was totally blown away - this is an amazing, well-written suspense story that you will not want to put down. I always expect a strong plot and fully-developed characters from this author, but my expectations were exceeded with this book! The story is told from the many characters’ points of view, which added such depth to the story. As bone-chilling as the killer’s point of view was, Nick experience while incarcerated is intense and scarring! As someone familiar with criminal prosecution I will tell you that the crime, the reactions to it by the town and Nick’s brief incarceration were more realistically portrayed that one would like to admit. But best of all was how Morgan and Lance’s friendship evolved into a partnership to find justice has set the foundation for a future relationship in the next books. I am so invested in these two, I cannot wait for the next book! Although I am sure that the road Morgan and Dane will travel to their happily-ever-after may not be easy, I have faith that this author will reward us with a wonderful conclusion to this trilogy!

Morgan Dane returns to her hometown with her 3 daughters after her husband is killed in Iraq. She is a lawyer and when her neighbor Nick is accused of murdering his girlfriend Tessa, Morgan decides to be his lawyer. Morgan with the help of Private Investigator Lance try and prove Nick is innocent. But if Nick is innocent that means the murderer is still on loose! It was a great mystery of a book that leaves you guessing until the end. Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Romance for an ARC in return for an honest review.
