I hardly know where to start. Apple trees that are coming into bloom and two pages later apples are being pulled off the tree and eaten. I am sure the author was referring to the blush of ripeness found on apples close to harvest, but that is not what she said. Nothing interrupts the flow of a story more than chopped, incomplete sentences, and this book is absolutely full of them. Then we have a sword that is on the horse she took to escape the villain one minute, and magically appears in the hands of said villain the next. But the last straw came during the last pages, after the obligatory torrid sex scene. Our intrepid hero lays back and says the experience was mind blowing. Yeah, there’s a phrase I am sure was used frequently during the days of Robert the Bruce. I read romance novels to escape. I’ve never had a book that I looked forward to escaping.

Eliza Knight's "Conquered by the Highlander" and "Seduced by the Laird" are the first two tales in The Conquered Bride series. This series is apparently a spin-off of the Stolen Brides series, but I haven't read that series and you can understand these just fine without reading that series. I really loved these books. I've already got #3 and #4 on my TBR. The storylines have elements that make the stories unique. The stories of Brenna and Kirstin are so different it's amazing, and yet the first two books feel cohesive. Eliza really knows how to write a hot historical book lover. I can't wait to dig into the next one.
