I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. Shadow of Time was a nice surprise!  I was told this was a paranormal romance (which I am a huge fan of), but with the books synopsis I wasn't sure what to expect from this.  I'm used to paranormal romances with vampires and werewolves, but Shadow of Time is about reincarnation which turned out to be a really nice change for me. But the first half of the book was slow for me.  This had to do with the conversations between the characters, which served as a way to get to know them.  But I felt it wasn't exciting and had too much detail (getting food from fridge, opening a soda can, etc) that I felt wasn't necessary and it made the story drag by.  But once we learn about Josh's secret the story picks up and had me glued to the book.  From here on the author does a great job combining her story with the history of the Navajo people.  I haven't read a story that centered around the Native American history so I found it really interesting! I enjoyed the plot of this book and I would have given it a higher rating if the story had grabbed me from the start.  But since it took half way into the book to do this I only give it 4 stars.  This author has a great imagination and I look forward to reading more from her.

Beyond excess use of dialogue, this book is in need of a serious editing. It is too bad, because the idea shows a lot of promise, but the 2 books could easily be one, and the rhythem of the story is stilted and broken.

This is a story of very mature for their age kids who go through something that spans lifetimes and affects the soal. Definitely a great read.

Although it took a while to get into the story, it ended up being a fairly good read. It's a different spin on paranormal romance and introduces the reader to some Native American culture. Ended up buying Part 2 - would have preferred it be just one book.

This was an unexpected treasure. I don't usually read YA, but this was really a great read. Now on to book 2.

It was a very nice change from the other stories of this kind. The storyline is new and also we learn a little about culture from it too. I could not put it down.

I liked it well enough I bought Part 2 to finish the story. I feel Ms. Minkman has the potential to be a great writer. While I liked her charactors in Shadow of Time there were times I found them a bit tedious and unrealistic. She has a good story line going and yet there are times she won't take an issue far enough and others where she takes something too far. I also found her love scenes to be lacking in warmth and realism. I can tell she did her research into her subject and that was appreciated and enjoyed. As I said, I enjoyed reading Shadow of Time and perhaps in the future as Ms. Minkman hones her writing skills her charactors will come to life more.

The first of 2 parts, quickly grabs you and doesn't let go! Lays the groundwork for Part 2.

Rather slow going; kept waiting for something to happen to make it a great book. I am guessing the reason it was so drawn out was to make way for more in the series. I also was not impressed by Hannah at all. She went from getting to know Josh again to pretty much being obsessed with him. I will probably not read the rest of the series. Book was around 138 pages.

Shadow of Time is a wonderful book, especially when you've been to the region of Navajo Nation and you recognize all the places! It's romantic, mysterious, spiritual, it's even partly  historical romance. I can't wait to see how the story continues :)

Shadow of Time is a historical paranormal romance. This book was given to me by the author and Paranormal & Romance Authors That Rock for an honest review. Hannah Darson is the main character in this book. Hannah is a 23 year old teacher who just completed her first year of teaching. She is returning to her mother's cabin in St. Mary's Port, near Page, Arizona in the Navajo Indian reservation region for the summer. Her younger brother, Ben is already at the cabin for the summer break before he returns to college in the fall.  Hannah and Ben had shared summers here every year until Hannah went off to college. Their mother is visiting a relative in Alaska, so it is just the two siblings. This is the first time Hannah has been back to the area in four years.  Not much has changed in the beautiful area,  but her brother's best friend, Josh is no longer the youth she remembered, but a grown man about to turn 18 in a few days. Hannah is also surprised to find herself extremely attracted to Josh and finds herself acting like a giddy school girl around him.  As the story progresses, the reader hears a lot of history about the Navajo “Dine” people, their customs and beliefs. Josh was born and raised on the Navajo reservation. When Josh was 14 years of age he went on a “spirit quest” and was given direction for his life, becoming a hataalii, or medicine man. Emily, Hannah's friend from the reservation, says that Josh has become changed since his vision quest and has become distant and reserved and cautions Hannah about becoming involved with Josh. Hannah takes Emily's comments in consideration, however feels drawn to Josh.  Josh also has similar feelings.  As Hannah and Josh begin to have feelings for each other and start to date, strange things begin to  happen to Hannah.  She drives to a beach to enjoy the lake and falls asleep, when she awakens and begins to leave she finds her gas tank empty. She becomes frightened when she feels like she is being watched, she gets in her car and locks the doors and calls her brother on her cell phone.  As she is sitting waiting for her brother and Josh to come to the rescue she is harassed by a trio of men who appear to be drunk, they try to break into her car to get to her, but she scares them off with an unloaded gun she keeps in the glove box of her car. After this experience she begins getting strange feelings and begins to believe that she is being watched, then has a scary encounter with a trio of men with yellow-brown eyes at the supermarket and thinks it is the same men who harassed her previously. The trio doesn't do anything to her, but she gets an unsettling feeling around them and is frightened in their presence.  She also begins to have dreams from another time and Josh appear in them as an older man approximately 30 years old. The dreams are very vivid and she begins to see coyotes that attack her in the dreams as well.  She begins to think that she is going crazy.  Hannah confides in her Navajo friend Emily, and she informs her that she thinks she is cursed.  As her and Josh spend more time together, the nightmares become worse and she begins to have elements of her nightmares while awake.  The story continues, but I don't want to give away any spoilers.  This book has a lot of Navajo Indian history and also has elements of paranormal, reincarnation, magic and romance.  I enjoyed this book very much, however felt that it is more geared towards the young adult. This was a “clean” book with only references to sex and no true sex scenes, however some adult themes.  If you enjoy clean historical romances with a paranormal edge, then this is the book for you.  I give this 4.5 out of 5 fangs!
