Six-Gun Showdown by Delores Fossen is an awesome romantic suspense. Ms. Fossen has delivered a well-written book. The characters are outstanding. Jax and Paige's story is packed with suspense, action, sizzle and drama. This book captured me at the first sentence and kept me glued to it until the last page. I enjoyed reading Six-Gun Showdown and look forward to my next book by Delores Fossen. Six-Gun Showdown is book 5 in the Appaloosa Pass Ranch Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. I read a print copy of this book.

Title: Six-Gun Showdown - Appaloosa Pass Ranch Book 5 Author: Delores Fossen Publisher: Harlequin Intrigue Published: 7-19-2016 Pages: 272 Genre: Mystery, Thrillers & Suspense Sub-Genre: Romance; Serial Killers: Crime: Contemporary; Western ISBN: 9780373699209 ASIN: B01ARH72AQ Reviewed For NetGalley and Harlequin Reviewer: DelAnne Rating: 4.5 Starts "I'm not dead." The voice mail rocks deputy sheriff Jax Crockett to his core. A year ago, Paige was murdered by the Moonlight Strangler. Yet his ex-wife just showed up at his ranch—out of options and out of time. There are only two reasons Paige would come back to Texas with a killer hot on her heels: Jax and their toddler son. Faking her death was the only way to keep them alive. But now it's Jax who's risking everything to protect his family. The cowboy lawman is also reawakening a powder keg of desire. A desire that's primed and ready to explode. Giving in will up the ante, igniting the embers of a love they may not live to claim. Delores Fossen a very talented writer who provides an exciting and intense novel that grabs a reader and holds him enthralled. I have yet to be disappointed by any of her books past or present. Which is why she is one of my favorite Harlequin authors and I read her offerings without question. Her characters are well developed. The overall storyline is planned out and flows smoothly. My rating of "Six-Gun Showdown" is 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Just the back cover pulls you in. The statement "I'm not dead", manages to pull you in quite easily, and that is only the beginning in this suspenseful romance by Ms. Fossen. Jax Crockett went through divorcing his beloved wife to then lose her to the Moonlight strangler serial killer. Now he is trying to catch the killer as well as raise his son. So when he has a voicemail saying that his ex-wife was still alive he thought that would be the hard part of the day. Not the attraction that still simmers beneath the surface or the multiple people who are working to keep them separate and most likely kill his ex. Paige had to go in hiding after being attacked by the moonlight strangler. But now that she has received threatening text messages from the moonlight strangler she has to come back out in the open. Now if it was only Paige getting threatened she would ignore it. But the messages are threatening Jax and her son. And that will not stand. After being reunited with Jax and her son she thought they only had 1 danger to face, not multiple people. This was a magnificent suspense filled romance that you will not want to miss. And I highly recommend it, and I highly recommend Ms Fossen to any romance lovers. ~A Book Obsessed Chicks Review Team Selection.

What a shock Jax got from listening to his voice mail hearing a voice he thought he would never hear again. An even bigger shock was when he walked out to the barn and the person attached to that voice was standing right in front of his eyes. No one can blame him for being hurt, angry and very upset for all the blame he has put on his self for his son and the loss of his mother. If only he had done this or that she might be alive. He is at a loss for words as his tempter rises why did she do what she did, why hadn’t she let him know she was a live? This is how the story starts giving you a full impact of suspense, action that capacitates you leaving you torn on who you feel sorry for the most. This was such a gripping read as the author pulls you in with vivid details of the terrifying ordeal Paige has faced at the hands of a serial killer the reason for faking her death. The story takes off from a previous novel where Paige was killed leaving a family torn between the loss and love they had for her. Faking her death was done to protect her ex and their son as well as is the reason for her returned. Not everything is as it appears someone is out to get their hands on Paige is it really the serial killer coming back or is there someone else? Things are just not adding up. Not everyone is happy with her return. There are so many suspects it is hard to tell who is friend and who is a villain. It is full of mystery, thrills that is action packed almost from the first page. Jax and Paige and page might be divorce before her death but that doesn’t stop the sparks they feel with her return. Neither know just which way to turn as they work together to bring out the serial killer. You can feel the passion come right off the pages as these two butt heads on who will do what when. Nothing is more chilling than when you hear the voice of the man who tried his best to kill you. It just shoots chills right up my back. I had no trouble picturing this and so many more thrilling scenes. The author really brought this story to life for me painting a picture no one ever wants to be a part of. This is one author who knows how to hold your attention why keeping your heart in your throat waiting to see what is about to happen. I was kept on the edge more than once trying to work out this mystery. The most touching scene is when her son sees her for the first time in so long it just about made me cry. They must work at bring whoever is at fault down why keeping their son safe. If that isn’t bad enough the nanny is acting strange she isn’t at all happy with Paige’s return since she is in love with Jax. Add this to all the other strange things happening all around them it is enough to keep your head spinning. Just when they think they have a handle on the issues things change leaving them spinning in their tracks. I have not read all the previous novels in this series and did not feel I lost. However it does make me want to go back and read the ones I have missed I do feel it will add more to the story. With that said this is a standalone and you do not feel lost at what has happen or is happening. The author does a wonderful job at filling you in so you never feel like you are lost and have no trouble understanding everything. This is a thrilling romance that will keep you on your toes filled with such excitement and packed with action you will not find a dull minute here. It was a book I could not put down keeping me up late at night to finish it.

There is a dangerous, eerie type of suspense from the get-go of this novel. Fossen draws readers into the world that surrounds her captivating characters and allows us to barrel alongside them throughout the fast paced novel. The setting was developed in a manner that I could easily visualise each aspect of it without detracting from the forward motion of the plot. Fossen has created likeable yet far from perfect characters to carry this story forward. I love how I didn’t always agree with them but could always identify with them. Jax’s caring nature and tough attitude, as well as his all cowboy way of life, made him an unforgettable hero. Conversely, Paige’s need to protect those around her to the detriment of her health was heartbreaking yet very heart-warming. The secondary characters also added to the story. I love how they were developed on so many levels. They made for a very complete and complex stories. This novel could definitely be read and enjoyed on its own but has much more impact if you know the backstory from the whole series. This is a fast paced & exciting wrap up to the mystery that has surrounded these characters for the past 5 novels and one that I’d highly recommend to others. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

A sharp and energetic story filled with fast action, mysteries, attacks, and a new chance on making a future together, if they just stay alive long enough to consider it. The atmosphere of the story is intense from the start, not only the threats and attacks are making the situation tense, but the return of Paige from death, the anger, disappointment, fear, and resentment, all mix with the relief and joy of seeing her again. The romance stays more on the back burner on this novel, even though when giving it a chance it boils rabidly and passionately. Paige and Jax have enough on their hands, just trying to survive, to spent much time on talking about relationships, past and present. But the connection between them is obvious, the old feelings flaming again palpable, and the attraction between them is unavoidable. The action is vivid, violent and vicious. The constant attacks, the life and death situations, all the possible culprits, the lack of clues, and danger to the whole family all makes the suspense poignant and fierce. This story and the series has captured my mind, and the family has won me over in every story. They hold together, support each other, and don't fold when the world around them starts to crumble, but fight to make it right. I'm enthralled! ~ Four Spoons and a teaspoon on the side
