Sleeping in the Bathtub is based on a true story about a man who shot three people near West Virginia University in 1980. One of the victims died. Timothy Allen McWilliams was a former Marine whose first trial ended in a hung jury, the second trial ended in conviction, and then the West Virginia Supreme Court overturned his conviction in 1986.
