From New York Times bestselling author Joanne DeMaio comes an enchanting novel about love, family, and the delicate power of snowflakes.

Reluctant to leave her cherished New England hometown after her sister's winter wedding, former journalist Vera Sterling makes a sudden decision. She takes what's left of her severance pay and invests it in real estate ... in one particular drafty colonial home and old timber barn set upon the pretty banks of Addison Cove. In that rough-hewn barn, she discovers a secret treasure left behind by the previous owner, the proprietor of the long-forgotten Christmas Barn gift shop.

While restoring her rundown, wood-sided home--its creaking floors, broken bannister, and neglected widow's walk--that secret slowly unfolds like a bit of snowflake wonder, crystallizing hopes and dreams for many in this small Connecticut town. But mostly for Derek Cooper whose own tragic story has headlined Addison's news. And whom Vera has come to love.

When the first snowstorm hits during Derek's annual Deck the Boats Festival at the cove, residents become stranded. It is then up to Vera to not only bring the town together, but to mend one man's heart she fears she may have lost.

Snowflakes and Coffee Cakes is a heartwarming story, one that reminds us to look to winter's stars. Because snowflakes can grant very special wishes ... if only we believe.

There were so many things that made Snowflakes and Coffee Cakes by Joanne DeMaio a must read for me. First of all I have read Joanne DeMaio's work before and she's very talented and always creates a fabulous story that I can not put down. Next check out this BEAUTIFUL cover. I don't judge a book by it's cover but when it is this pretty how could I not what to just gaze at that beautiful cover, after I finished the book of course. I also adore the name Snowflakes and Coffee Cakes just has such a catchy sound I could not wait to start reading. So there were all these wonderful things that made me want to read this book, needless to say I had high expectation going in and let me tell you I was not disappointed AT all! I really enjoyed this book. Of course I have not yet meet a book by Ms. DeMaio that I did not just love! Vera Sterling returns to her hometown for her sister's wedding. She has left a few problems behind her, that she would rather not think about during this happy occasion. The big thing is that she has lost her job and needs to figure out what she is going to do with her life next. She takes a big step and buys an old house in her hometown. She loves the house, even with all it's problems. There is also a barn full of surprises for Vera to uncover.  When she meets Derek Cooper, she finds the answer to some of her repair problems. There is also an instant attraction between Vera and Derek.  Derek has a tragic past and a memory that he honors every year with the Deck the Boats Festival. However when the snow storm that Vera's weather forecasting father predicts, strikes just in time for the festival, Vera comes through with an answer. Derek has a lot of sadness from his past, that just makes my heart break for him. I really enjoyed reading Vera and Derek's story. I love stories that are set in towns full of wonderful caring people. Ms. DeMaio has yet again created another wonderful story full of people that kept me intrigued and a storyline that had me flipping pages very quickly. I love Christmas stories and this one left me with a wonderful warm holiday feeling.  If you are already a fan of Joanne DeMaio, then I think you will love this book just as much as I did. If you love holiday stories but have not read Ms. DeMaio's work yet, check this one out, I do not think you will be disappointed.  I know I will be anxiously awaiting Joanne DeMaio's next release. When I read one of her stories I always finish with a feeling I have taken a short mini vacation. She does a fabulous job of describing her settings.  I was given the opportunity to read this book so I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my pleasure to share my thoughts with you about this wonderful story.

I loved the authors previous two books so it didn’t surprise me that I also loved this book. The characters have felt so real in each one. They had a broad range of emotions, and you can imagine yourself having the same feelings that they have in each situation they find themselves in. Vera was in limbo as she’d recently lost her job in the big city. She goes back home for her sister’s wedding and on her way out of town see’s that an old house and barn that was a big part of her childhood, is for sale. Before long she decides to buy the place and return to her cozy little hometown. I didn’t blame her, I would love to live in a place like Addison Cove. Everyone knew everyone else and for the most part were friendly, caring people. The cove itself sounded like a place I would spend as much time as possible…with a book and camera, reading and taking photos of the boats. The book took place during the Christmas season, and every scene was described so vividly that it was like watching a movie. I could see the transformation of the Christmas Barn (the antics of Jingles the cat was a great addition) and loved the scenes where it was snowing. The relationship between Vera and Derek kept me guessing, I couldn’t wait to find out if they would end up together or not. I felt they were good for each other, especially that Vera was good for Derek as she helped him through the feelings he still had from the tragedy he went through years before. I loved that Vera was so close to her parents and sister, it gave the book a comfortable feeling. This was a really good book and I think anyone would enjoy this fun, quick read.

I have just recently found author, Joanne DeMaio as really enjoyed (Blue Jeans and Coffee Beans) and n Snowflakes and Coffee Cakes, she did not disappoint, taking you to the small New England town of Addison Cove, CT for a heartwarming white Christmas. Vera loses her boyfriend and her job as a journalist at a Boston newspaper and decides to return home for her sister Brooke’s wedding. While there, she finds an Old Dutch colonial home for sale with an old Christmas barn which took her back to her childhood. She decides to buy the property and begins restoring the house and barn and discovered the prior owner’s letter and lots of Christmas treasures. She takes on some freelance jobs and is enjoying this quaint little town and all it has to offer. While she is shopping for supplies at the local hardware store she meets Derek, a quiet man who has lost his daughter Abby from an ice covered drowning in a pond around Christmas time. Each year in memory of his daughter, holds an annual Deck the Boat light show. Between Brooke’s love for baking and Derek and Vera’s growing love there is much in store this Christmas and the holidays approach. Combined with a snow storm, healing, unexpected love, and brining an old business back to life – the Christmas spirit greets this small quaint town. A wonderful sweet and magical story of snowflakes and coffee cakes, a story of Christmas, joy and romance, and starting over. It reminds me of the quaint Christmas Barn I loved so much in NC (which is now a vet). We all can reminiscent a little and recall fond memories of Christmas. The author sets the stage for some magic making you want to visit and be a part of this town. (I look forward to Whole Latte Life)-this is an author you will want to follow!

Quick read but I would not recommend it. The love story was a little lame... needed more passion.

I really enjoyed this book. I did tear up once or twice. It was refreshing to read a book with really no sexual content. The book ended the way I had hoped it would. This was a very quick read.

Exactly what I expected and wanted in a Christmas book. A quick read with likeable characters and some interesting facts on snowflakes as well. Those who enjoy Debbie Macomber and Melody Carlson will love Joanne DeMaio too!

The town and description of the characters drew me in. I could almost picture the house and Cove. But, I was very disappointed that the author dwelled so constantly on the past loss of the child the entire book. I was hoping for a plot where there was less depressing loss and more holiday renewal and lighter fare. I also think the main character, Vera, was forgotten , in her writing career. Still gets stars for a great idea and descriptions.
