Overview

Somebody Killed His Editor by Josh Lanyon

For sixteen years reclusive mystery writer Christopher Holmes enjoyed a very successful career, thanks to the popularity of elderly spinster sleuth, Miss Butterwith, and her ingenious cat, Mr. Pinkerton. But sales are down in everything but chick lit, and Christopher's new editor doesn't like geriatric gumshoes. It's a pink, pink world for Mr. Holmes.

At the urging of his agent, Christopher reluctantly agrees to attend a mystery writers' conference at a remote Northern California winery. But no sooner does he arrive than he discovers the pajama-clad body of a woman in the woods. If nearly two decades of mystery-writing are anything to go by, the woman doesn't appear to have died a natural death.

With a storm in full force and a washed-out bridge making it impossible for law enforcement to come to the rescue, it's practically like all those classic murder mysteries in isolated country manors that Christopher has been penning for sixteen years! If only Miss Butterwith was on hand. Or even Mr. Pinkerton...

Terrific characters, a compelling mystery, and a second chance at love. Definitely recommended. -- lyradora

I'm a Lanyon fan, and truly enjoy his writing. Christopher Holmes is my favorite of the characters Lanyon has created. There's something relatable about him; he's delightfully imperfect, warm hearted and hysterically funny. J.X. is the perfect foil to Kit's somewhat cynical worldview. I've read all three in the series and wil now plead with Josh, please writ Holmes and Moriarity 4!

Have read many Josh Lanyon books. It's BS to end a book like he does and by that i mean he just stops writing. This book was predictable, no mystery involved. Guessed the murderer pretty early on. I liked the 1st book in this series but did not like Kit in this book. Passing on the 3rd

A great mystery that keeps you wondering through the whole story, and even a little worried about the outcome. The overall story is one of the funniest stories of this genre I've ever come across too. I highly reccomend this book.

A gay writer attends a conference where murder ensues. The humor is hysterical. A classic 'gather everyone in the library and manipulate a confession from the murderer' tale.

A friend had recommended this book to me as I'm a big fan of Josh Lanyon and I wasn't disappointed! I really enjoyed the banter between Kit and JX, looking forward to reading the next books in this series.

I read this after finishing Mr. Lanyon's The Adrien English series. If you were like me and enjoyed Adrien English, then there won't be much to dislike about this series! Christopher is a 39 year old, once-popular author of a popular series staring an old lady spinster. Without going into too much detail, Christopher has had a rough ten years, which doesn't get any easier when he met an old (weekend) lover from his past. Lanyon does a good job spinning the mystery story in this novel. I felt it was actually better, more intricate than his earlier works. I love Christopher's character and J.X., and even some of the side characters. I think the only criticism I have with this novel is the abrupt ending!

A good story with some m/m romance in it...unlike some stories that are about m/m encounters, with some story to them. This is a fun book to read on the beach, or on the bus, or prety well anywhere.
