About the Author

Jay Bell never gave much thought to Germany until he met a handsome foreign exchange student. At that moment, beer and pretzels became the most important thing in the world. After moving to Germany and getting married, Jay found himself desperate to communicate the feelings of love and alienation that surrounded this decision. He's been mashing laptop keyboards ever since.

Jay is a Lambda Literary Award winner and a fairly bad dancer. He also thinks that you're really cool. Seriously.

Jay Bell's stories are very riveting and I always enjoy reading them. He develops his characters in a very realistic way and gives you the chance to really get to know each one. Kelly's story was yet another fantastic read and I already can't wait for Something Like Thunder. Incredible story and I would definitely recommend it! Five stars!

It is very difficult to write a review for a book this good. Five stars are never enough for any Something Like book written by Jay Bell. In Something like Lightning, we get to know Kelly Phillips, a high school student who hopes to run in the Olympics and have his best friend (who happens to be straight) fall in love with him. Well, things generally don’t work out as planned and Kelly’s career plans and search for love go through many twists and turns. In Lightning, we see a very different side of Kelly than we did in Something Like Spring, partially because some of what we know about Kelly is told by William and partly because we see Kelly’s bitterness and rudeness without understanding where he is coming from. I was not a big fan of Kelly’s in Spring, but after Lightning, I really love for him and root for him to find the happiness that he seeks.  This book can be read as a standalone. However, I recommend that you read every Something Like book by Jay Bell. This is my favorite series, one that I go back and reread frequently. The characters are so well developed that they seem completely real. I love every one of Jay’s MCs, and I am even attached to quite a few side characters. The situations are emotional and relatable. In all honesty the only down side I have ever found in any of these books is that I am sad when it is over (hence my rereads).   Ok, now how many months until Something Like Thunder?
