I have enjoyed all the books in the Anna Curtis series and Speak of the Devil does not disappoint. The story is intense, thrilling, and surprising. The gang violence can be a little hard to take so you might skim those because the rest of the story is great.

This is my first book by Allison Leotta and I am wondering how I could miss such an amazing author.   Leotta writes from her own experiences and cases as a Washington D.C. prosecutor.  Her knowledge of the inner workings of the criminal system is very evident in the writing.  She tells the story with a real look at the secret world of gangs and their violence. Speak of the Devil told the scarey, yet attention keeping, story of a horrible gang and a prosecutor willing to put it all on the line to bring them down.   Anna Curtis has been aware of the MS-13’s reign over her city, when their attacks start affecting her personal life she takes her work to the next level.  Between fighting the M-13’s and preparing her case against them and the impending marriage to Jack Bailey her life is non-stop.   I found that with each twist and turn it was harder to put the book down. This novel had a great combination of mystery and romance.  I was enthralled by the very beginning .  It will be highly recommend by me to anyone who loves police/court dramas, romance, and thrillers.

Having read the first 2 in the series, I thought the 3rd might be less entertaining. Boy was I wrong!! She just gets better with each book. Highly recommend!! Warning: once you start any of her novels, be prepared to lose sleep because you won't want to put it down!!!!

I have never read this author before and I can't wait to read her other books. Very well written. Great story with just the right balance of bad guys and romance.

I've read all three of Allison Leotta's books, and Speak of the Devil is every bit as much of a page-turner as the first two. It has a great mixture of case and personal drama for the heroine and takes the reader along on a riveting ride. Loved this book!!

This book was a page turner from the very beginning!  I love a great murder mystery and this did not let me down! After reading this book I googled ms-13 and was shocked at reality Leotta brought to this book. Brilliant story while integrating true evil in this country. Must read!

Speak of the Devil is a great addition to the crime/thriller genre. The book had me hooked from the beginning. The surprising plot twists and turns made it hard to put the book down. I wanted to know what would happen next. Allison Leotta has created a very real and engaging character with Anna Curtis. I found myself hoping everything would work out for her in the end. Anna Curtis, a Washington DC prosecutor, is assigned to the case of a brutal attack on a brothel. The attack is soon linked to a vicious street gang that uses fear, intimidation, and murder to exhort protection money from local business. Links to past crimes, including the murder of the wife of Anna's fiancé, are discovered as the investigation progresses. The story is told from the point of view of both the main character Anna Curtis and Gato, one of the gang members. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading the novels of Steve Berry and David Baldacci. Disclosure: I received this book as part of a Goodreads giveaway on the premise that I would review it.

The third book in the series with US Attorney Anna Curtis and this one centers around the mix of gangs and sex related crimes. A prevalent gang in the DC neighborhoods MS 13 takes center stage in this installment. Anna Curtis and her team get to the bottom of who is in charge in this gang and tries to bring their organization to a halt in the DC area. Again another book in this series that I love. With book three, it was interesting to see Anna Curtis keep evolving as a character and then how the author was going to incorporate sex crimes into another major investigation. Weird to say - but I liked the mix of violent gang crime mixed with the sex crimes. I read these books back to back and I liked not having to hang on the cliff hanger from one book to another! I don't know how many books are planed in this series, I have two more to review this week, but I wouldn't mind many many more!

I don't like gangs and I despise bullies. Hurray to Anna Curtis for staying strong. Just wished Gato would have killed Diablo instead so he could'nt reign in prison. Gato needed to die anyway after killing his babymama. The MS13s are a bunch of thugs who need to disappear. Kudos Allison Leotta for sharing your collective experiece in your amazing books!

I liked it enough to finish reading it. Characters personal life adds some interesr without overwhelming the rather thin mystery

I usually hate women writers. I can tell by the name of the book whether it is a male or female writer. I've gotten to the point of just disregarding any title that seems like a "female" point of view. First of all, I am female. But I like the gritty, dark stuff. Female writers always put too much emphasis on the romantic side. Not this writer, Allison Leotta. I read the first book because it was a B&N Daily Find at $1.99. Then I was hooked. So, bought the one before it, "Discretion." Allison Leotta puts much emphasis on the romantic side (maybe a little more than I like) but the other parts are written the way, I believe, that I like.

Speak of the Devil” is a first rate thriller. Leotta’s plot, pace and characters will have you tuning pages. In this novel, Allison Leotta imparts her knowledge of the dangerous dark world of human trafficking and brutal street gangs. Anna Curtis, a Washington DC prosecutor, is back again.   Leotta’s writing reflects her own experiences, and draws the reader into the inner workings of criminal investigations. She presents an authentic look at the social and psychological forces that pull young people into this secret world of violence and nihilism. A bust on a brothel turns into a murder investigation for Anna. The attack is linked to a vicious street gang that uses fear, intimidation, and murder to exhort protection money from local business. The local gang is tied into gangs up and down the east coast, led by a man they call Diablo, a gruesome and frightening character. As the investigations moves forward, we discover that that one of their past crimes includes the murder of the wife of   Anna's fiancé and Diablo is now hunting Anna down as well.  The story is told from the point of view of both the main character Anna Curtis and Gato, one of the gang members. It shows Anna as a dedicated and hard-hitting prosecutor who doesn’t back away from evil. The contrast in the narratives perspective adds a unique dimension to this thriller. Meanwhile to keep her heroine sane and ease some of the tension, Leotta has Anna preparing for her marriage to Jack Bailey, finally.  All the preparations and shopping is described, making the couple seem ordinary against the background of crime, they both deal with in their lives. Allison Leotta in her new book, "Speak Of The Devil" Book Three in the Anna Curtis series published by Touchstone brings us back to Washington D.C. and another adventure with Assistant U.S. Attorney Anna Curtis. From the back cover: SPEAK OF THE DEVIL--AND HE WILL APPEAR On the very night she gets engaged to the man she loves, sex-crimes prosecutor Anna Curtis's professional life takes a shocking turn that threatens everything she holds dear. While Anna is enjoying a romantic dinner capped off by a marriage proposal, a few miles away two separate groups are gearing up to raid a brothel. A vicious killer known as Diablo--the Devil--leads one group. A few minutes later, Anna's own investigative team heads in to search the brothel, as part of the fight against human trafficking in D.C. Both groups are caught off guard, with deadly results. As Anna investigates the bloody face-off, the boundaries between her work and home life begin to blur. Though eager to focus on her new fiancé, the chief homicide prosecutor Jack Bailey, and her soon-to-be stepdaughter, Olivia, this case and the search for Diablo are never far from her mind. When Anna discovers a web of long-buried secrets and official lies leading straight to her doorstep, the truth about this case threatens to rob her of the happiness she seemed so close to securing. And everything Anna counted on becomes a question mark as Diablo moves in for yet another kill. Allison Leotta draws on her experience as a D.C. sex-crimes prosecutor to take readers into the back rooms of the U.S. Attorney's Office, the hidden world of the Witness Protection Program, and the secret rituals of one of America's most dangerous gangs. Universally praised by bestselling authors from Catherine Coulter and George Pelecanos to Lisa Scottoline and David Baldacci, Leotta weaves fact and fiction to create her best novel yet. Get ready for a page-turning, thrill ride. For twelve years, Allison Leotta was a federal prosecutor specializing in sex crimes and domestic violence in Washington, DC so she knows first hand what she is writing about. Diablo, the devil, is the leader of an infamous street gang known for rapes, intimidation and murder. Anna begins by hunting this man who hides his face behind a mask and then he begins to hunt her. "Speak Of The Devil" is a satisfying mystery that will keep you flipping pages trying to find out what is going on. Ms. Leotta gets us caught up in the story and the characters lives to the point that we actually hate to say goodbye to them when the book ends. Time to go to the dark side of Washington, DC as we investigate with Anna Curtis all the curves and twists that this case takes.
