About the Author

Lexie Dunne is a woman of many masks, all of them stored neatly in a box under her bed. By day a mild-mannered technical writer and by night a novelist, she keeps life interesting by ignoring it completely and writing instead. She hails from St. Louis, home of the world's largest croquet piece, where she can be found reading comics and spoiling her dog. Supervillains Anonymous is her love letter to the caped evildoers of the world. She does not count herself among their company, no matter how many cliffhangers she writes.

It is a fun quick read. I enjoyed the characters and world building. However, I really dislike stories that pause in the middle of the action with a TO BE CONTINUED "ending." Maybe that makes it truer to its comic book roots, I don't know, but it just feels like half a book.

I prefer series in which each book can be read as a standalone, it drives me nuts to really enjoy a book and then find out it ends in a cliffhanger and the next one hasn't been written yet. Other than that, this was one of the best reads I've had in a long time. I hope the next one is out soon!

From the beginning to the end, this is such a fun read! Gail (or should I say Hostage Girl!) has such a great voice throughout the novel, a voice I find myself relating to. Her reactions are very adult and yet incredibly funny and witty. The characters are so great. The plot is exciting even though there's less action. I actually appreciate that the novel is more about characters and story than it is action/fight scenes like a comic book would be. The ending was so comic book, though, even ending with a "To be continued". Just so classy and amazing. I cannot WAIT for the next book in the series!! I recommend this for EVERYONE! Whether you like superheroes/comics or not!

As a guy who grew up on comic books, I really enjoyed Lexie Dunne's take on the genre. She brings an obvious love for comics to the story with plenty of inside jokes. Even if you don't know a lot about superhero comics, I think you can enjoy this one. The story's strongest parts focus on Gail learning all the behind the scenes stuff that superheroes do between their adventures. There's a lot of great world-building. Perhaps the only gripe I have is that a lot of the plot remains unresolved by the end of book one, which isn't all that different from how a first issue in a comic book series would end. I'm giving this four stars, but I'll admit that it's closer to a three-and-a-half. I opted for four over three as a show of faith that the next book(s) will lead to a satisfying payoff.
