I want to start out by saying I have both the book and the audio so I read some of the time and listened while in the car. This book was so amazing and different. It was so emotional in so many different ways, and so deep that I found myself having to take a break from it. Almost like something so tragic that you want to turn away but at the same time so curious and so good that you have to stay focused. I'm not sure how to word this. In no way was it boring or mindless, just the opposite. But in the first few hours I was wondering when it was going to have something major happen. When all the time, it was all playing out before me. I found myself wanting to look back and go back over parts to see hidden truths I may have missed the first time. The narrator was meant for this book. His voice had such a creepy, ominous sound to it. Very suspenseful and mournful at the same time. Very fitting. I could hear all the emotions coming out through his voice. He is a natural talent for sure. I'm going to see if he narrates anything else. The characters were so well developed. This circus was made up of misfits that society had rejected for many reasons, because they were different. They each have their own special talent which is what others would call magic. When really, they are gifts. The ring master has nothing but love and the well being of his performers in his heart. He is the glue that holds it all together. However, there is something sinister going on around them. No one knows this, maybe a few. Who is responsible and why would they possibly feel the need for this? Could it be the new performer who has showed up and seems to be all that was ever needed in a circus because of his exceptional talents? Or is it one of their own?

Suspended is the first book in the Vagabond Circus series. The book centres on a circus made up of magical people called Dream Travellers. Each member of the Vagabond Circus has one or more special ability that enables them to astound audiences. The circus is in financial difficulty. In order to improve their situation the ringmaster takes on a new employee, Finlay. Doing this without consulting the others causes some discord but Finlay’s abilities surprise them all and cause the others to think that their leader has made the right choice. Unfortunately, Finlay has a hidden agenda that could destroy the Circus. Sarah Noffke creates interesting characters and wonderful worlds. I did find this book a little hard to get into but once it got going I found it an enjoyable read.

This was a fun read! I've never read anything about the circus and wasn't sure I'd like it. But Sarah Noffke created a wonderful world of fantasy and circus acts. This is my second book from this author and I WANT MORE!!!! She is very generous in developing characters, and there are quite a few in this book, making us really connect with them. I will warn you though, be prepared to read book two right away. This one ends abruptly at a point where you're yelling "No, but what happens to...." At least the whole series is already available. Definitely a 5 star read. * I received a copy of this book free from the Author and For Love of a Book group in exchange for an honest review.

An amazingly magical and captivating book that propels you into another of Sarah Noffke's mesmerizing Dream Traveler worlds. In the Vagabond Circus, Dave Raydon gathers orphans and the lost, bringing Dream Travels together, giving them purpose and a sense of belonging. His aim is to bring magic and joy back into ordinary lives, through the gifts and talents of his Dream Traveller circus. Things were running smoothly at the circus but everything begins to unwind when a new talent is introduced into the mix. This book captures you from the start, taking you on a mesmerizing journey of intrigue, deception, mystery and romance. Finley is a complex character with many hidden facets that are slowly revealed throughout the book. He is secretive, cocky and hides behind brash remarks. Zuma is a strong female character, she is passionate about the circus but little else touched her, until she met Finley. The love/hate chemistry between Zuma and Finley is captivating, and their developing and ever changing relationship draws you in, you become so embroiled in these characters that you actually hurt when they hurt. Sarah's writing makes you feel their connection; you experience their mistrust, longing, hope and anxieties. All the characters in this book are appealing and have some depth to them, from Dave's persuasive, open personality to grumpy Sunshine's empathic thoughts, they all add layers to the circuses world. The plot is intriguing, with twists and surprises along the way. It draws you in and keeps you reading and in the end, leaves you dying to get the next book. This is an amazing story with great writing, intriguing plot and well-developed characters. As a side note, having heard a sample of the audiobook due out later this year, I can not wait to hear it. The narrators breathy voice fits the circus perfectly and will bring Sarah's amazing characters to life
