Tame Your Manners by Loretta Neff

For caregivers and parents with demanding schedules, finding time to teach or mentor children is increasingly difficult. While teaching professionals are relied upon to teach academic skills like reading, writing, and arithmetic, the importance of social skills is often overlooked. Learning social skills early, especially during childhood, can shape a child’s character and greatly impact his or her life. The Elegant Way Foundation’s vision is to teach, inspire, and motivate children to do well by doing good deeds. Tame Your Manners makes manners fun, meaningful, and most importantly, memorable. Any adult or child who reads this book will delight in the clever illustrations and correlations of animal characteristics to the manners advice. Phrases like “lions don’t need to roar,” “don’t be a whino rhino,” and “stand tall like a giraffe” will be forever fixed in a reader’s mind.

About the Author

Loretta Neff is president of the Elegant Way School of Protocol, a boutique etiquette firm located in Fort Lauderdale, Naples, and West Palm Beach, Florida. She was accepted to Thomas Cooley Law School at Michigan State University, but never attended, having found her real passion to be philanthropy through teaching the social graces. While living in Cleveland, Ohio, Loretta joined a private club, and it was there that she was first invited to teach dinner manners and social graces to children of other members. From that early experience, referrals segued over the years to postponement of law school and a thriving career and a driving mission. Loretta remains committed to the advancement of numerous charities, societies, and educational foundations, and has taken her philanthropy to another level with the formation of the Elegant Way Foundation, a nonprofit organization intended to provide resources and training in social skills to other charities, missions, and schools as part of its mission.

Tame Your Manners is a picture book written to educate youngsters on the benefits and how-tos of cultivating one's social graces.  Covering everything from table etiquette to thank-you notes, author Loretta Neff approaches the important topic of manners in an entertaining way which will inform and inspire young readers to always put their best foot forward.  With safari animals as their guide, Neff demonstrates corollaries between various animals and the lessons which can be learned from them.  Wonderful illustrations, by Anirban Mitra, a list of core values, and a glossary of terms all help make this book a likely favorite for kids and adults. Look out Emily Post, there's a new book in town and it's sure to guide young readers as they learn how to be the best version of themselves they can possibly be.  This book is recommended for home and school libraries and has earned the Children's Literary Classics Seal of Approval.

You have written a lovely book that is sure to entertain children of all ages and educate them in valuable life skills. Playing on characteristics of jungle animals and taking readers on safari to learn the rules of the jungle is a very clever and engaging concept.   J. S.

Tame Your Manners at K.A.M.P. Safari is a wonderful teaching tool! Tame Your Manners at K.A.M.P. Safari takes us on a tour of the Africa and introduces us to memorable and loving characters who teach valuable lessons about manners. The etiquette rules in this book are applicable for children and adults in situations that range from on a playground to at a gala. When brought to life through the words and wisdom of giraffes, lions and zebras, the manners become part of the story and just as unforgettable as the characters.

How timely this book is to challenge our youth with grace and form when hardly English is spoken, hardly tolerable is experienced at the dinner table, hardly wearable are the fashions we see and hardly apparent are common courtesy and respect. Thanks to Ms. Neff for a primer on what should be natural yet has become a lost art among our youth. The words and thematic style are engaging and the illustrations are magnetic!

Tame Your Manners at K.A.M.P. Safari is a great, fun and refreshing way to teach and reinforce good manners for kids! This book is very cleverly written and beautifully illustrated. The lessons of proper etiquette are brief (great for shorter attention spans), but concise. I can't think of a better way to teach these valuable life skills. The use of animal analogies (e.g. "Learn Patience and Understanding, Don't Be a Whino Rino") makes it so easy to visualize and recall how one should behave in certain situations. I can see this book being very valuable to every family with children, and the ebook version makes it easy to reference and keep good manner reminders close at hand. This would make an excellent gift from grandparents, and it would find a welcome audience at schools that emphasize good manners and character. As a side note, when reading this book with our son, I learned a few new table manners myself, " ... I spoon soup away from me!" Maybe this book is a helpful teacher and reminder of social graces for all ages!

This is a great book to teach kids manners by matching the actions with animals to make them memorable. I even found myself learning a few things while reading it so it's good for adults also. This book will help get your child to use good manners while they are still young and easy to teach.

Children Can Learn Manners & TRULY Have FUN at the same time! I wish "Tame Your Manners" was available when I was a child. It would have saved my mother and father a lot of time and headache. This book not only teaches table manners, but also confidence, poise, and respect for others. It's hard to believe how the author creatively packed such a substantial amount of valuable knowledge in this slim little paperback! This book is a game-changer, and I plan to give it as a gift to all of the children in my extended family... as well as friends too!

At last, a manners book that addresses boys too!  Tame Your Manners goes well beyond manners at the dining table with brilliant inclusions of core values and personal presence. The sportsmanship section really “hit home” as I watch my competitive nephew play sports--he could use some coaching in that area.  ~Proud uncle
