Tarnished Remains: A Shandra Higheagle Mystery by Paty Jager, Christina Keerins

Shandra Higheagle is digging up clay for her renowned pottery when she scoops up a boot attached to a skeleton. She calls in Weippe County detective Ryan Greer. The body is decades old and discovered to be Shandra's employee's old flame.

Ryan immediately pegs Shandra's employee for the murderer, but Shandra knows in her heart that the woman everyone calls Crazy Lil couldn't have killed anyone, let alone a man she loved.

Digging up the woman's past takes them down a road of greed, miscommunication, and deceit. Will they be able to prove Crazy Lil innocent before the true murderer strikes again?

While digging up clay for her pottery, Shandra Higheagle digs up a skeleton. She calls detective Ryan Greer so he can come to investigate this discovery. The body turns out to be Shandra’s employee, Lil’s, old boyfriend who went missing decades earlier. Shandra is happy to reconnect with Ryan but she isn’t happy that Lil is his prime suspect. Shandra can’t help but get involved in the investigation. Can the real murder be found after all this time? This is the 2nd book but my first experience with this series. I am really happy I gave this book a chance, the mystery works well as a stand-alone book. I will definitely read more from this series. The plot of the book has a great pace and is filled with red herrings to keep you guessing until the end. Along with the great plot, the book has interesting characters, a touch of romance, and a hint of paranormal. Narrator Ann M. Thompson is a great asset to this book. She has a wonderful voice for the character and really brought them to life. She was easily understood and kept a great pace as a storyteller. I was given a copy of this book in hopes I would submit a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The story of an artist dealing with her Indian heritage drew me in. The mysteries she helps the detective who is drawn to her solve keep my attention & make me eager to read more from Paty Jager. Shandra is a woman of depth who is loyal to those close to her & a determined seeker of justice for those willing to cause others suffeting. I enjoy the atmosphere & people & look forward to another visit!
