About the Author

Like most of her characters, Tess Thompson hails from a small town and will always feel like a small town girl, despite the fact she’s lived in Seattle for over twenty-five years. She loves music and dancing, books and bubble baths, cooking and wine, movies and snuggling. She cries at sappy commercials and thinks kissing in the rain should be done whenever possible. Although she tries to act like a lady, there may or may not have been a few times in the last several years when she’s gotten slightly carried away watching the Seattle Seahawks play, but that could also just be a nasty rumor.

She currently lives in a suburb of Seattle, Washington with her brand new husband, the hero of her own love story, and their Brady Bunch clan of two sons, two daughters and five cats, all of whom keep her too busy, often confused, but always amazed. Yes, that’s four kids and five cats. Pray for her.

When Constance Mansfield is murdered all of her secrets are exposed in the form of an autobiography. Her daughter, Sutton Mansfield & lost love Declan Treadwell discover family secrets while reading the manuscript. There are multiple twists and turns taking random events and weaving them together in this story. Tea & Primrose doesn’t fit any specific category and is not the normal type of book I pick up but I found this to be intriguing, profound and difficult to put down. Tess Thompson has created unique characters that have wisdom and love while learning the circle of life.

I received a complimentary copy of "Tea and Primroses". This was the first book by Tess Thompson that I have read. I really enjoyed the story of Sutton and Declan, but I enjoyed the flashback story of her mother Constance and her true love Patrick, even better. I think that is because Constance is retelling the story after she has had years to think about it, and I found her to have great insight about what is truly important in life. The one drawback to me was that in the beginning it was hard to keep track of just exactly who some of the characters were, and how they were all related. I felt that the two stories flowed back and forth very easily and I was curious to see how the story would end. I am looking forward to other stories from The Legley Bay Collection and will be reading some of Tess Thompson's previous books.ee

A love story within a love story - 4 1/2 stars I love Tess Thompson's books. I devoured her River Valley Collection as it came out and was happy to see a new series. Although, I didn't realize that there was a book that came before this one. I will rectify that and read it soon! The nice thing about her books is that while they are in a series, you can potentially read each one as a stand-alone and not be lost. This book is a love story within a love story. Sutton grew up with her best friend Declan. The two of them fell in love, but drifted apart. Like all good love stories, their destiny was to stay madly in love, even if they couldn't admit it. Everyone is trying to get them back together, some from beyond the grave. Constance, a prolific and wildly successful writer, had her own secret love, that she never shared with those close to her. Her death reveals all of her secrets and true love prevails. Twists in the plot are pretty predictable, but I am still a sucker for a great love story like the ones depicted in this book. There's also a hint of mystery in this book. I am also aching to see my primroses bloom and was craving a cup of tea. The details and the settings are described in such a way that you are transported to the west coast (and beyond). I got completely lost in the story and can't wait to read more of them.

I was lucky enough to win this book via the publisher, though I've never read anything of Tess's prior to this book. I realized there was a previous novel set with some of these characters after I rushed to Amazon to see if there was anything else by this author, but this was definitely stand alone. I don't feel I missed out on anything by not having read the first book. This is a dual love story--a tale of mother and daughter's romatnic relationships and friendships. It was poignant and heartwarming and heartbreaking all at the same time. I could not put it down! I knew (or at least hoped I knew) what was going to happen, yet it didn't take anything away from the story. Constance (mother) and Patrick's love story is woven seamlessly into Sutton (daughter) and Declan's story. Definitely a must read for any romance or chick lit readers out there.

Oh my goodness, just when I thought Author Tess Thompson couldn't top her River Valley Collection, she gives her readers a new series of endearing stories that will pull at the heartstrings! In Tea And Primroses, the second book in The Legley Bay Collection, the reader follows an emotional and passionate intertwining story of family, friendship, love, loss, redemption, second chances, new beginnings, and life lessons with a subtle murder mystery added into the mix. After spending two months studying with a master baker in Paris, thirty year old Sutton Mansfield returns home to Legley Bay, Oregon, to fulfill her dream of opening her own bakery. But her dream is pushed aside when her famous reclusive novelist mother Constance Mansfield is killed in a hit-and-run accident while bicycling on her daily morning ride to town. Amidst the grief and loss is the question of whether Constance's death was a murder. Through the reading of her will, letters, and a hidden manuscript, Sutton discovers the true essence of her mother's life and the legacy that she has left behind. This is a beautifully written story within a story that interweaves the past with the present through the similarities in Constance and Sutton's life stories. Just like Sutton, the reader can't help but become captivated as Constance's life story unfolds. Nicely dovetailed throughout the story is the alternating chapters of the present revolving around Sutton with that of Constance's past. The reader learns of the two men that make up the true loves (lost loves) in Constance and Sutton's lives, the trials and tribulations of life, and the hint of a murder mystery that is subtly interwoven within the threads of story. The author weaves a vividly descriptive and enchanting story that is both heart wrenching and inspirational, the reader can't help but get swept away by the smooth flow and captivating essence that is Sutton and Constance's story. Tea And Primroses is an enchanting and timeless story of relationships, love, loss and redemption that is must read!
