The Bastard's Bargain (O'Malleys Series #6) by Katee Robert

"The Bastard's Bargain is deliciously gritty, darkly romantic, drop-dead sexy and thoroughly engrossing." --USA Today, Happy Ever After
Married to the enemy When Keira O'Malley was a child, she used to picture her perfect wedding. The flowers. The dress. Her husband. But nothing could have prepared her for saying "I do" to Dmitri Romanov-cold, domineering, and always one step ahead of everyone else in the ever-shifting power plays of New York City. She agreed to his bargain to secure peace for her family, and she may want the bastard more than she'd ever admit, but she'll be damned if she'll make this marriage easy for him.
Dmitri knows better than to underestimate Keira for one second. Molten desire smolders between them, a dangerous addiction neither can resist. But his enemies are already on the move, and he needs every ounce of his legendary focus and control to keep them alive. Keira could just be his secret weapon-if she doesn't bring him to his knees first.
"A tension-filled plot full of deceit, betrayal, and sizzling love scenes will make it impossible for readers to set the book down." --Publishers Weekly on Forbidden Promises

Ms.Robert has enchanted her readers with the story of the O'Malley's family from the very beginning. This concludes the saga of the youngest O'Malley, a broken girl trying to deal with the loss of her brother. All want to help her, but it takes the bullying of a hard man to make her go cold turkey, and help her accept the demons she has created. And chose not to continue spiraling down in search of numbness. If she can't feel, then the pain won't hurt. Romanov offers Kiera the impossible. To become his queen in the dynasty and empire they will built. To become his partner, not his puppet, to rule beside him as equals, to become more than a figure head. Can she trust him? Can she pull it off? Only time will tell, and only after their enemies have been dealt with. This fan hopes the writer will consider penning a novella in which the characters have overcome the power struggle, and have tentatively put aside their mistrust for the sake of family. For the sake of the future, their children.

Read the entire series. Every single book was phenomenal. I didn't expect this last one to be even better than the rest. You come to know all the characters in every book, but I loved that Kiera surprised me so much. She was total bad ass & quickly became my favorite sibling. The only bad thing about this book is that it ended.

4 1/2 STARS! Explosively satisfying! We've been waiting for Dmitri's story for so long, and it does not disappoint! From the very start of the series, we've been seeing mention of the evil Russian who was a thorn in the O'Malley family's side throughout all of their business dealings. He's been trying to get a foot in their door for a long time, and was going to be a constant threat until he got his way. Keira puts the family first and thrusts herself into his lair, but it doesn't take her long to discover that there's more to this Russian than she ever thought. Their journey is touching, as well as exciting. Great read! Keira O'Malley will do anything to keep her family safe ... even make a deal with the devil! She might be the youngest of the O'Malley siblings, but she's been touched by the crime and trauma of their lifestyle just as much if not more as each of her siblings. She finally checked out of life a couple of years ago when one loss took her breath and her foundation away. Now if she has to marry Mr. Evil himself in the form of Dmitri Romanov, so be it ... at least her siblings will have peace! Russian Dmitri Romanov has been trying to get an "in" with the O'Malley family for years now, but keeps being foiled. When he set his sights on Keira, it became personal because she is unlike any previous conquest. She's gotten underneath his skin without even trying to. He can see the broken soul that lives beneath the iron will and heated barbs she throws his way on a constant basis. It might still be all about business, but having this firecracker as his wife is going to be a delight if it's the last thing he does!

I am thrilled with how this story played out and loved every second. It's a complicated world full of so many different dynamics and layers, I could not get enough. I loved Dmitri and Keira! They had an intense and volatile relationship and as soon as I picked it up, I was gone to this world the author has created. Since first meeting Dmitri Romanov, I have wanted his story. This gruff villain that you want to hate but he does these small, endearing things that have you rooting for him. His story did not disappoint. He was so complex and passionate. He was a fantastic anti-hero. Now Keira, she had some problems and I was not her biggest fan in the beginning. Seeing her work through her issues, let down her guard, and really grow into this amazing force was awesome. By the end, I was her biggest fan! Together Dmitri and Keira were crazy awesome, like fire and ice. There's a lot of tension and simmering passion between them and I could feel that push and pull. I loved their verbal sparring, some snarky, some sweet, but the more they come together the more playful it gets and it made them really entertaining together. I loved those special moments between them. And the passion? Holy heck this sucker was hot. It was like a building pent up energy between them. All that want and need made for some really heated scenes. The storyline was fantastic and I loved all the drama making this a serious page turner. There's an excellent cast of characters as well from previous stories so you get a glimpse of everyone in the series. This is completely standalone so you won't be lost while reading but I highly suggest reading in order just because you see this awesome build in Dmitri over the course of the entire series. I love this world that Katee Robert has created in The O’Malleys series. It's full, detailed, and intense. Each book has had me hooked every time but this one, hands down, is my absolute favorite. A must read! Complimentary copy received for honest review.

As soon as I spotted this, the final book in the series, was about to be published I just had to read it. This is the culmination of this enthralling story of the O’Malleys and the gangland mobsters they compete with for territory and power. It is a story of expectations, hidden agendas, murder, torture, death and romance. This story focusses on the youngest of the O’Malley siblings, twenty-one year old Keira who has never got over the murder of her beloved brother. She started drinking and taking drugs to numb the pain of his loss and lost herself in the process. When the only man who makes her feel again, the leader of an opposing group of mobsters, Dmitri Romanov, tells her to go away and marry him she agrees. The wedding is nothing like the one she’d dreamed of as a child, but there again Dmitri is nothing like the hero of her childhood dreams. Instead he is outwardly cold, manipulating and always ahead of the game . . . . until it comes to Keira. This is a story of redemption, helping someone heal and move forward but it is also a story filled with deadly danger, threats and intrigue. Dmitri has been the ‘enemy’ to the O’Malleys for most of this series but he’s the only one who sees Keira and is determined to help her achieve her full potential rather than letting her drown her sorrows in an alcohol and drug induced haze. He proves to be a patient and caring husband, helping Keira become the person he knows she can be – his Queen. However, others are threatening them all and there’s a traitor in his home…. Can Keira and Dmitri work together? Can they build on their mutual attraction to find love or will an enemy thwart them all? This is another fast paced, hot and steamy, romantic suspense that I didn’t want to put down until I’d finished it – a brilliant finale to a superb series. It has great characters who readers of earlier books in this series will have got to know well but I still think it could be read and thoroughly enjoyed as a standalone. I have no hesitation in highly recommending it – and all the earlier books, too! I requested and received a copy of this novel via NetGalley. This is my honest review after choosing to read it.

Wow. Reading the rest of the books in this series, I would have never guessed that Keira and Dmitri's book would have even been in contention for series favorite. Dmitri always seemed so cold, so hard...such an evil bad guy. Sure, his interactions with Keira in the last few books was intriguing, but she was so damaged and hell-bent on self destruction, surely their relationship--and therefore their book--would be a disaster? So. Wrong. This book grabbed me from the first page and wouldn't let go. From the first few chapters when their relationship seemed rather doomed until Keira came into her own as temporary de facto leader of the Romanovs because of...reasons, I couldn't put this one down. Dmitri and Keira are absolutely made for each other, even if it took them more than half of the book to realize and accpet it. Getting glimpses of the lives the other O'Malley siblings are living along the way was pretty much the icing on one heck of a delicious cake. The O'Malley series is one that really should be read in order, because each story builds on the one before it and there are many threads which weave in and out of all the books, culminating in the events that take place in this one. So, no--this is not the book to start with. Yes, you'd probably be able to follow along with what is happening just fine and it is a story all on its own, but trust me, you won't be satisfied with knowing just Keira and Dmitri's tale. I'm sad to see this series end, but anxious to find out where Ms. Roberts will take us next! Rating. 4 1/2 stars / A I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Kiera O’Malley had been slowly losing herself in a world of booze and drugs after the death of her brother Devlin. Dmitri Romanov, one of her families enemies, and a man who’d like to see them in ruin, he’s been plaguing her to marry him, to finally except seems a no brainer to complete her self-destruction plans. But a hard, cold Dmitri she expected is not how it was at all. Dmitri Romanov has had his eyes on Kiera for a longtime. It became an infatuation of sorts and he’s carefully watched over her from the sidelines so she doesn’t go overboard with her self-destruction and finally kill herself. When she finally agrees to become his wife, he does every thing in his power to heal her broken heart, make her feel strong, her own person, help with her addictions and make her his beloved. A fitting conclusion to a fantastic series. This story has to be steamiest of them all, but it tastefully done, and I didn’t think I was going to like Dmitri much but this is going to become one of my favourites. I highly recommend it!

What a way to wrap up this series! Katee Robert delivered another intense and gritty read in her O’Malley series that is filled with all the emotion, heat, and suspense I’ve come to expect. I was a bit unsure going into this one – Keira hadn’t shown much of who she was and I wasn’t sure how she would be able to stand up to Dmitri now that she would be forced to play in his world. But I must say, I absolutely loved the way her character developed and came into her own. From owning her shit to calling Dmitri on his, she was the perfect queen in the Romanov kingdom. It wasn’t an easy or pretty path that Ms. Robert paved for her, but it was the only path that could lead to what I must say was a masterful end. From the fantastic dialogue and worldbuilding to the emotional depth and development of her characters, Ms. Robert has woven a story and series that delivered everything I love when I open a book. The pacing is fast at times and the romance even faster, but every element works together to deliver a top notch story and series, one that has become one of my favorites. Although this book can be read as a standalone, because each previous book in the series has been building to this conclusion I would recommend starting from the beginning – and I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed in any of the books in this series. Another great read and one I highly recommend to anyone who likes some edge and a whole lot of heat in their romance.

I saw ARCs were out on Twitter and literally ran to Netgalley in order to get my hands on this book. I came in to the O’Malley series late, book 4 was the first glimpse I had of this family. And Keira and Dmitri’s story has been percolating since at least then. I’ve been dying for more of them. To be honest, I found them to be the most compelling thing about Aiden and Charlie’s story, and I was hoping that when they finally had a chance to shine in The Bastard’s Bargain that I wouldn’t be disappointed. And I’m not. Keira and Dmitri are everything. What develops between them is raw and carnal and wanton. The way they need each other and the way they connect is beyond sexy. It’s something deep and dark and heartbreakingly beautiful. Gorgeous broken Keira means more to Dmitri tha he’s willing to admit at first. He can’t bear to see her destroy herself, so he will save her even as she fights him on it. She’s so tired of being a pawn, caged in by people claiming to protect her without seeing how they are carving away at her soul. Dmitri sees too much. And still she wants him. But she’s going to fight it till the bitter end. The thing is, when she finally listens to Dmitri it turns out that he is actually offering her everything. If she is his, then he is hers. And giving her back that power, it changes their world. Because together Keira and Dmitri are unstoppable. And I loved every second of their story. It was literally perfect. In fact, I think I just might go re-read it. Possibly over and over again. **The Bastard’s Bargain will publish on February 6, 2018. I received an advance reader copy courtesy of Netgalley/Grand Central Publishing (Forever) in exchange for my review.

I've been waiting forever for this story! And it's just so bitterssweet. The last installment in The O'Malleys series is here and it couldn't be more perfect. When We first met The O'Malleys and the crime families in Boston I was intrigued by the sibilings and their characters but honestly, each secondary character and each love interest made everything better. When Dmitri was introduced I hated him. But he was the kind of character you love to hate because he was so bad and so good at being bad I couldn't help but want to see more of him. And the more I read the more this character stole the show. Dmitri became as important as all the O'Malleys for this series. As the only son and heir of his family he has a lot to prove and a city to keep under control. Dmitri made a big mistake in the past, thinking he could advance on Boston and trying to marry Carrigan but when he met Keira he needed to have her and not just to save his reputation and power. Kiera is the youngest of the 6, and the one who's Devlin death affected the most. They were closer than the rest and when she lost him and his family went crazy and falling in love she felt abandoned, alone and powerless to do or say what she wanted. Broken and lost in her own pain Keira takes drugs and alcohol to make it all go away until Dmitri crosses her path and she wants him ore than anything. I loved loved loved reading the two of them come together. They are stubborn, vulnerable, calculating and so hot! Dmitri sees Keira as a way of regaining power and making the O'Malleys pay. Keira sees him as the only way to keep her family safe from a war they know they won't be able to win. And then, they see each other. Not as enemies and not just as everyone else sees them but the person thei are inside and is just freaking explosive. Dmitri's cold and calculating personality works for him, he's bad and he won't apologise for it. And while his methods may be not be the best he wants to help and protect Keira. He sees beyond the rebel girl and what she can be. He believes in Keira before she does. And she does see the quiet lonely man that lives in a big mansion and rules New York. That doesn't mean it's easy for them but watching them go round after round trying to get the upper hand is so FUN and trheir chemestry is off the charts, this two know how to turn up the heat. I loved the development of both them here, we get to see Keira face her demons and a whole new side of Dmitri that has turn him into my favorite guy in this series. And while I loved reading this one, I can't believe is over. It's been a while since I felt so bad after a series ended and I really really hope Katee gives some more because I'm not ready to say goodbye to all this characters!!

God, I've been waiting for this book forever! It was my most anticipated book of 2018, and it was SO WORTH THE WAIT! I love nothing more than a redeemed anti-hero, and Dmitri is THE BEST. Keira O'Malley is the youngest of her big family of siblings. Because of that, she was a little more sheltered from the harshest parts of he "family business". At least initially. Growing up in a Boston mob family is no picnic though, and her closest brother Devlin, paid the price for them all when he was gunned down during a mob war. In the years since that happened, Keira has been on a downward spiral. She quit creating her beloved art. She is constantly high or drunk, with pretty much zero sober moments in between. She takes dangerous risks, like sneaking out of the house when she knows things aren't exactly safe for her out on the town. And, maybe the most dangerous of all, she has an ongoing flirtation with the Russian mobster that has been the most recent foe of her family. She wants him, even though she knows it's impossible. At least, until it isn't... Dmitri Romanov isn't a good guy. You can't really stay a "good guy" in his business, even if you were to try to. He's been the villain of this series from the beginning, but occasionally you've seen flashes of decency, especially when it comes to Keira. He has lost face with his NYC rivals, due to some defeats at the hands of the Boston O'Malleys, and he needs to get things back on track. The easiest way to do that is to marry Keira O'Malley. He also happens to want her more than he should. They've been playing a cat and mouse game for years, and now he's finally catching her, and he won't let her go. Dmitri and Keira have had massive chemistry on the page from their very first meeting several books ago. But, their relationship in this book brings it all full circle. They both underestimate themselves, and their capacity for love, and forgiveness, and for self-love, and self-acceptance. Dmitri recognizes that Keira is special and that she can be his partner and his equal in all things, but he needs her to realize it for herself too. He also helps her with her sobriety, and it was really nice to see them coming together while dealing with all the problems they had going on in their crazy life, especially in regards to the suspense subplot, which is partially carried over from the last book. I loved the glimpses we got of the rest of the O'Malley clan, and how they all came to terms with Keira's choices, and her finally embracing being a grown up. They all see her as their baby sister, and often it's been to her detriment. I appreciated them seeing her for who she really is, and who she could be. I loved the way Keira really grew up and came into her own as Mrs. Romanov. That seriously deserves it's own hashtag, #MrsRomanov, because she is so badass. I loved the dynamic between Keira and Dmitri and how they really understood each other, were honest with each other, and truly fell in love with each other, flaws and all. They are a true power couple, and I loved watching Dmitri being redeemed in my eyes throughout the story with his love and care for his moya koroleva. PS, native language pet names are swoontastic, and I am so here for it. I truly loved this story and I think it was the perfect ending for this fantastic series. I cannot recommend this entire series, and this book, highly enough. I'm a big fan of this author and I'm so excited for what she'll have for us next!

The O’Malleys was originally slated to be a 5 part series. That was before Dmitri Romanov muscled his way onto the scene and into readers’ hearts in book two. Katee Robert created such a magnetic, compelling character in this villain that readers—including myself—begged for the sexy Russian’s story. And then, thankfully, there were six. In decades of reading romance & romantic suspense, I have never, ever, fallen for a villain. So falling for Dmitri was a complete shock, and one I wasn’t comfortable with at first. After my initial shock wore off, I fully embraced my feelings for the mobster. Ever since Carrigan O’Malley boldly outplayed him in The Wedding Pact, I’ve hungered for his story. The two year wait has been long. One would think the exceptional stories in between would have made the wait more bearable. Yet they only served to heighten the need. Yes, need. After the deal Dmitri struck with the O’Malley patriarch to marry his oldest daughter was thwarted, Dmitri was determined he would have the remaining single daughter. But did he settle? It becomes clear Dmitri recognized something in Keira O’Malley that no one else had seen: Not her extensive family; certainly not me; not even Keira herself. It was this that made the unlikely pair a formidable force against the evil threatening all four crime families and the Romanov empire specifically. I must admit pairing my Dmitri with the youngest, most unstable, and my least favorite O’Malley wasn’t a move I appreciated until book five. It was then I began to warm up to Keira and trust that Katee Robert would do right by the menacingly seductive Russian who captured part of my heart. I should have never questioned Robert’s genius. This much anticipated finale is a culmination of a uniquely complex, deliciously hot, incredibly well-written series unlike any other. The Bastard’s Bargain is many things, but paramount is (crime) family drama, betrayal, justice, vengeance, love, and the ultimate metamorphosis. I not only got my hero, I got a bad@ss shero too. Many thanks to Katee Robert for an epic series that I will re-read for years to come. Just one more request, if I may: Epilogue novella, please. To fully enjoy each story, this series should not be read out of order. 4.5 stars

***5 ‘Because of Course’ Stars*** This book has me at a loss for words, but only in that whole ‘Hello, book hangover.’ kind of way because this book was everything I could have hoped for when it came to Dmitri and Keira getting their HEA, as well as the finale to the series, and more. It was all kinds of smexy (not that I expected any less) mixed with a lot of heart, a touch of swoony heart twitterpating moments and a good dose of intrigue with a dash of crazy that had me savoring each word and moment and wishing that it didn’t ever end. Gentleman Murderer I think it’s safe to say that Dmitri Romanov was THE most hated character of the series, but that also made him the most popular in that whole the one you love to hate the most way. But now? As much I loved, and even adored, the rest of the Alpha AF males in this series, Dmitri out does them all ~ and that’s saying A LOT. The man is Alpha AF, ruthless and unforgiving, but the heart that lies beneath, and his unique code of honor, makes him one that I’d give my loyalty (and body) to in heartbeat. Moya Koroleva Keira has been the O’Malley who has spent the entire series teetering on the very edge of a cliff that depending on which way the wind blew could be the end of her. But here we finally see the problem child of the clan get her issues straightened out and finally claw her way out of the abyss and become the force she was always meant to be. I seriously ADORED Keira (even more than Dmitri), she is a woman I’d have at my back any day. ”What a polite monster you are.” He growled against her skin. “Your monster, at least in this” From their first collision, Dmitri and Keira’s relationship has been a rocky, yet entertaining one. The chemistry was immediate and I knew that should they actually become more it would be explosive, and lemme tell you ~ it was nuclear. These two were so evenly matched in so many ways it was scary. The smexy going on when they were together was HAWT, but it was the blunt, and at times brutal, honesty they gave each other that showed how perfectly matched they really were because instead of tearing the other down, they did everything they could to make each other stronger. As sad as I am that this is the end of the series, I cannot deny that The Bastard’s Bargain was as perfect an ending as it could get. True, there are a few things I’d love a little more of, whether it’s a couple of secondary characters getting books (Liam anyone???), or getting a little more of O’Malley siblings working out their own relationships in the new world that they now live in, but I really am good with where everything was at when the book ended. Even though I didn’t start with the first book of the series, I jumped in with the second one, I highly suggest that you do start at the beginning to get the true emotional gut punch this one serves up and understand all the ties that bind these characters together. ~ Copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley & voluntarily reviewed ~

After a sleepless night, numbed by alcohol and weed, Keira O’Malley made her decision: now was the time to marry Dmitri Romanov. The O’Malleys would be furious when presented with the done deed, but it would stop the two crime families from warring; a bargain’s a bargain, especially when there’s another threat on the horizon. I was nearly frantic to read Dmitri’s story; he had made an impression on me right from his introduction in the series, which is unusual for me, because I should not have liked such a character, but I perceived him in the same way Keira did: Dmitri definitely has animal magnetism and he is irresistible and dangerous. The story is excellent: tightly plotted, evenly paced, although I wondered if in reality someone as mentally unstable as the “villain” would be permitted to head a mob family. Who cares! It’s Dmitri and Keira’s story I wanted, and Katee Robert nailed it. I’m even surprised I enjoyed THE BASTARD’S BARGAIN this much, because how often does it happen that one ends up disappointed with a much-awaited book? I loved how Dmitri and Keira’s relationship progressed: mutual trust had always been a serious issue, and neither knew how the other would react, and neither did we! The fierce sexual chemistry that had always been there between Keira and Dmitri explodes in wildly erotic sex scenes, and in an odd sort of way, their marriage is an ideal one: they both make efforts to compromise and deal with what they’re faced with rationally – and passionately. I was hoping that Katee Robert would do justice to those two marvellous characters, and she did beyond my wildest expectations! Thank you, Katee Robert, for making Dmitri and Keira’s story the best in this fantastic series! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was the last of the O’mally’s children and it was twisted, loving, hate and everything in between. I could not wait for Keira’s and Dmitri story and I was not disappointed. I could not put it down once I started reading. There was so much they felt for one another and in order to have what they wanted. This series was one I would recommend everyone to read.
