Oh my...this book was amazing. I loved this authors first series and devoured each book with great pleasure. So when I knew she was writing a new one I was ecstatic. This is still in her unique style but a complete standalone. Perry’s story will break your heart. Just knowing what she’s endured will make you cry. When Cole first came into her life it was under tragic circumstances and even then he was drawn to her. Fast forward five years and there connection is still as strong as he first remembers. As they come to complete this Birthday List their love grows. Amongst this are a host of other lovable and awesome characters. I didn’t want this book to end. It was one of the best books I’ve read this year! Major book hangover now too! Lol. I’m so hoping that in the future we’ll maybe get another book featuring another couple. Hint hint Devney. Lol I highly recommend this book. Absolutely loved it even if it made me cry.

I have never read anything by this author before, but she's going on my auto-buy list! From the description, I didn't think I was going to enjoy this book that much, but I took a chance based on the glowing reviews. And I'm so glad I did! I expected something more maudlin. A young widow stuck in the past constantly harping on what should have been. Instead, I found it refreshing, with just enough looking back to appreciate how far she's come, but otherwise grounded in her present life and developing relationship with Cole. All around, very well done. I loved the characters, and appreciated their journey.

Every so often a book comes along and it touches your heart in a way that you never expected, this is one of those books. This book is about love and loss, grieving and trying to move on with life in a way that preserves the memory, and finding a way to enjoy life and accept the possibility that love can still be found despite these changes. Poppy loses her husband in a robbery shooting that goes unsolved. Very tragic since it was on the eve of their first anniversary. After grieving for 5 years she is determined to do the things he wanted to do before his life was stolen from him as a means to find a way to move past her grief. Cole has always wanted to be a police officer, but the hardest thing he had to do was tell a woman that her husband had been killed. Years later their paths cross again and he is drawn to her. Pick up this book to see what happens as Cole helps Poppy to complete her husband's Birthday List. Even if this book isn't your normal thing. I highly recommend you to take the chance, I can't see how you'll regret it.

This is a wonderful book, full of rich characters. I loved the idea of her dead husband’s list being used for her closure. This book is full of comedy, and love. I was so glad she found someone to help her with the list, and moving forward. Great story.

Loved the story line but could have done without the multitude of ‘f’ words. I’m not a prude - just don’t think every conversation in the book had to have so many expletives as they did nothing to add to the story.

Romantic Second Chance! For a book that starts out in the most heartbreaking way, The Birthday List turns into the most beautiful and romantic second-chance story. It is one of those books that makes me fall back in love with the romance genre. Poppy is a strong and resilient character. She had to learn to take life “minute by minute” after she was left having to find a way to “stand tall” as her world fell apart around her. “Then she took another step back, standing tall. Damn. Even blotchy faced, she was beautiful. She let her grace—her incredible strength—shine through her sad smile.” The Birthday List is a sweet, emotional, slow-burn romance that I just wanted to wrap myself up in the story and cuddle with it. I wanted to stay with these characters and not let go or let the story end. -5 Stars!-

4.5/5 stars The Birthday List is a standalone adult contemporary romance. The main character is 29 year old Poppy. Something happens in the prologue that completely changes her life (you can read about it if you want in the book blurb - although IMO it gives away most of the story). Because I had not read the book blurb I was completely surprised by these events. I had no idea that this story was going to be this emotional. This book was meaningful and beautiful. And I really liked it. The "birthday list" was such an interesting premise for a book. It's basically a list of things to be done by each birthday. I really enjoyed this part of the story. Especially the reason for Poppy doing it. One of my favorite things about this book were the supporting characters. The author did an amazing job coming up with so many fantastic characters. My favorites were Molly (Poppy's best friend), Jimmy (grandfather figure) and Mia (her ukulele teacher). I also loved that there was a bit of a mystery/case to be solved. I thought that this added so much to the story. And The Maysen Jar restaurant was the greatest idea for a restaurant ever! The only thing that I didn't love about this book was that to me the romance scenes did not fit in with the tone of the rest of the story. Overall, I really liked the two main characters. And the story was such a special one.

I loved this book. It broke my heart and I cried in the beginning but man did it get better throughout the book. Poppy lost her husband and she blamed herself for it. And she didn’t want to be a burden to her brother or best friend. I loved how she finished her late husbands birthday list. Cole came into her life at the right time. Loved how he wanted to help her with the list. He was very patient with her, treading lightly to not push her away. Their love for one another was amazing.

Is it possible to feel utterly speechless after reading so many beautiful words? This book was everything!! You feel the hurt and the utter hopelessness, and then you feel the anxiety and drive, and then after you have been on an extreme roller coaster of emotions you get SLAMMED with LOVE!! I genuinely enjoy all of Devney Perry's books, but this book is the cherry on top of an already amazing sundae!! I suggest that everyone read this book!

OMG! What did I just read? You know when a book hits you so hard you can't stop thinking about it? The hardest thing for me is to write a cohesive review when I absolutely loved a book, so here I am, struggling. The Birthday List gave me the first hangover of the year. This book is touching, fun and sexy. I can't put into words the love I feel for those characters. All of them have a special place in my heart. This is one of those novels you know you will reserve a moment to reread every year because it has the power to fulfill all your romance reader needs. Make yourself a favor and get it. This was my first Devney Perry Book and I will be reading EVERYTHING by her from now on. Excuse me while I get ready to binge!

My Review Title: A quick and enjoyable love story! •*¨*• Minor Spoilers Alert!!! •*¨*• What I enjoyed about this contemporary romance: Widow finds love again / Whimsical / Unpredictable / Easy-to-read / Inspirational / Entertaining / Wonderful characters / Original / Page-turner / Romantic / Realistic / HEA ★¸¸.•*¨*•★Minor Spoilers Alert★•*¨*•.¸¸★ Writing style: Dual POVs •*¨*• Story rating: ★★★★★ This novel was selected for Vilma’s Vixen book discussion group’s June group read on Facebook. I had never heard of this author, but I was pleasantly surprised by widowed Poppy and policeman Cole’s love story. Poppy’s determination to complete her deceased husband’s birthday list of things to do by each birthday was admirably. And I liked that fate brought Cole back into Poppy’s life a second time. Being an intelligent man, Cole knew there was a good reason for fate bringing them together again. He seized his opportunity to get to know her, and he even helped her complete some of the birthday list activities. I look forward to many more stories by this new-to-me author.

What's On Your List? Devney Perry has quickly become one of my favorite new authors. Her books are such a welcome escape. When I need a good dose of warm, fuzzy happiness I know I can turn to her stories to make everything right with the world, even if just for a stolen moment. The Birthday List was no exception. It easily earned a spot on the list of books I’ll love forever. The Birthday List is truly an original. It’s one of those books I couldn’t put down while I never wanted to reach the end. I could have kept reading about the characters indefinitely. One minute this story would break my heart and the next I’d be laughing out loud. Perry once again managed to make me fall in love with the beauty of rugged Western Montana. The story of Poppy, her late husband Jamie, the ever-persistent and understanding Cole, and all the quirky family and friends in Poppy’s life came together in a story that had a little bit of everything – romance, heartbreak, humor, and even some mystery and suspense. The Birthday List really makes you imagine how difficult it would be to tragically and unexpectedly lose the love of your life as well as the pain and confusion of trying to move on in a world you no longer recognize. It is so unique because it’s a concept that’s not often explored in the genre of second chance romance. Not all relationships end in a break-up or divorce and death is an entirely different obstacle to overcome. The Birthday List did a beautiful job of portraying those emotions while also conveying a powerful message about living life to its fullest and being brave enough to accept new chances at life and love. I think everyone who reads this book will be inspired to create their own Birthday List if they don’t already have one.

The Birthday List by Devney Perry brought me an emotional down pour of feelings right from the beginning. This book puts me in the mind of PS I Love You and held my heart in its hands. Poppy's happy marriage and happy life was shattered by tragedy. The loss of her husband brought her life to a stand still. After years of mourning she is ready to move on with her own life. In order to reconcile and truly say goodbye to Jamie, she takes it upon herself to complete his birthday list. The list is a bucket list of sorts and Poppy hopes that completing it will help bring her the closure she needs. Poppy is prepared for heartache and difficult times, what she isn't prepared for is Cole and her pull toward the man that delivered the news that forever changed her life. Tears, lots and lots of tears. This is an emotionally charged read, the synopsis warns you but I don't think that anyone can be ready for the intensity of Poppy's story. I cried as I said, but I also smiled and cheered for Poppy. I was excited to be along for the ride of the birthday list and for the unexpectedness of Cole. This was my first Devney Perry book, but definitely not the last. 5 stars **Review by Amy W., Late Night Reviewer for Up All Night w/ Books**

The Birthday List by Devney Perry is an emotional romance that spans love, loss, redemption, second chances and acceptance. Told in dual POV between Poppy Maysen and Cole Goodman, this story was amazing. I have come to expect nothing less than stellar from this author and The Birthday List was no exception. Poppy has been struggling for years to put the death of her husband behind her. Her last ditch effort to move on involved completing his "Birthday List" before the year is out. A list that he had begun planning for future birthdays for the rest of his life, leaving her a short time to complete a lot of his items. The most expensive one is done - opening The Maysen Jar restaurant is a dream come true for both of them and a huge success. But what about the rest... Cole Goodman is shocked by the coincidence of running into Poppy Maysen again. The last time he saw her was on the night her husband died, over five years ago. He is even more shocked be the ridiculously strong chemistry between the two of them. Deciding he's going to help her complete her list he walks the fine line between respecting Jamie's memory and her love for him with building their new relationship along the way. Real life men should take a page or a hundred from Cole Goodman's book. LOVED IT!!!!!!!!! Enjoy!
