I adored Mary Ann Bernal's Concordia which was skillfully written and filled with ongoing suspense. There is plenty of real life emotion, action packed with lust, lies and deceit which is explored in such a memorable way. I was entertained from beginning to end. This flawless tale was so clear and precise that the words flew off the page in a very visual way. I drawn in right away and as a reader I could see Concordia standing in front of me so naturally beginning with her entrance. She is a captivating character, manipulating but also likable. This tale instantly brings the reader back to another time and place. To be honest, this is not my favorite genre but it was more entertaining and compelling than most stories that I read. I so badly yearned to know where it would all lead. Would everyone survive? But most of all who would hold Concordia's heart and keep it? Would the man/men that captured her heart stand in her way? This is the first book that I have read in the series and this book certainly stands on it's own. Though I will have to go back to the beginning...The Briton and the Dane has caught my interest!

What an exceptional story! I absolutely relished Mary Ann Bernal's Concordia; beautifully written and brimming with conspiracy, betrayal, love, hatred. The historical references are light and enjoyable. The ending is memorable and brought a tear to my eye. I appreciated the epilogue and author's notes. I wish Concordia's story had not ended. The Briton and the Dane: Concordia should be on your reading list; tremendous! (It is a stand alone novel in The Briton and the Dane series).

Intrigue, Betrayal, Lust. All with a capital I,B,L. well maybe not the but, but do not underestimate the young women in the Ninth Century. Was Concordia really just naïve, or cunning. You decide. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. And love all the research which Mary Ann Bernal must have doneto write her books about this time in history. Her love for the Ninth Century is obvious from every chapter. I previously read 'The Briton and the Dane' which was set in South England where I live. But surprisingly Concordia was set in a part of Spain I spend my holiday. I will certainly recommend this books to my friends .

Having read the three previous novels in The Briton and the Dane series, I was anxiously waiting for Concordia to be released. I am have been obsessed with this series; it's wonderful. I was impressed with how seamlessly Concordia fits with the rest of the series. I didn't reread the other novels in the series, but I did skim some passages I had noted earlier and didn't have to double back. Concordia was a hard novel to put down, but I loved that it drew me in immediately each time I picked it up again. To me, that is the mark of a great book. While I really liked Concordia the novel, Concordia the character was a different story. She was a very hard character to like because of her impulsive, manipulative nature. While I think part of that is the young age of her character, it was still hard to root for her. Yet at the same time, part of what kept me reading was I had to know if Concordia grew up a bit during all her ordeals. In Concordia there were so many complex and strained relationships. Chad and Thayer were my favorite characters to read scenes of. They were the most diabolical and trying to figure them out was so enjoyable. The ending was the most amazing part for me. I wasn't sure how everything was going to come together and the ending completely blew me away. It was unexpected and the more I thought about it, I don't see how things could have ended another way. I am unsure if this is the last novel in the Briton and the Dane series. If it is, it will be hard for me to say goodbye to these characters, but I will eagerly read anything that Mary Ann Bernal writes. She has a knack for writing characters that is so enjoyable. I cannot recommend this series enough.

Author Mary Ann Bernal has done a just service of a timeless story. She painted a picture that was clearly seen and as you think the story has settled down...wham..a new twist to the plot occurs. As a reader I hated to put this book down to resume present day reality. And when at home, I didn't want to do anything but to read this book. I was astonished when I read the one star review because I did not find the book to be as that person said. I have proudly recommended this book to others and I will be purchasing it in paperback so it can grace not only my kindle, but also my bookshelves! Lovely book....well done...
