About the Author

TEYLA BRANTON grew up avidly reading science fiction and fantasy and watching Star Trek reruns with her large family. They lived on a little farm where she loved to visit the solitary cow and collect (and juggle) the eggs, usually making it back to the house with most of them intact. On that same farm she once owned thirty-three gerbils and eighteen cats, not a good mix, as it turns out. Teyla always had her nose in a book and daydreamed about someday creating her own worlds.

Teyla is now married, mostly grown up, and has seven kids, including a one-year-old, so life at her house can be very interesting (and loud), but writing keeps her sane. She thrives on the energy and daily amusement offered by her children, the semi-ordered chaos giving her a constant source of writing material. Grabbing any snatch of free time from her hectic life, Teyla writes novels, often with a child on her lap. She warns her children that if they don’t behave, they just might find themselves in her next book! She’s been known to wear pajamas all day when working on a deadline, and is often distracted enough to burn dinner. (Okay, pretty much 90% of the time.) A sign on her office door reads: DANGER. WRITER AT WORK. ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK.

She loves writing fiction and traveling, and she hopes to write and travel a lot more. She also loves shooting guns, martial arts, and belly dancing. She has worked in the publishing business for over twenty years. Teyla also writes romance and suspense under the name Rachel Branton. 4.75! Read the BOOK! I bought this on a whim browsing for something to read late last night. Less than 24 hours later I'm back for book two, and I actually got OUT of the bathtub to get into wifi range to do so. Believe me, that is unprecedented. A few bits annoyed me in the first 50-75 pages, thus the 1/4 star off, but it only got better and better from there on out. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go read The Cure (book 2).

After reading the overview, and doing some quick research on Teyla Branton, I decided to give this book a try. At first glance, the conceptual idea was appealing, although it is similar to many other books out there involving immortality, it appeared unique in its overall presentation. The author’s writing style had a pretty decent flow. However, as I have found with other breakout authors, there were a few sentences that popped up and disrupted the flow and structure of how the book is read. This is something I believe is self corrected through time, experience, and a good editor. The characters were interesting and believable. Their descriptions were simple enough to allow the reader’s imagination to fill in the blanks, but specific enough to differentiate between them. Their personalities were also very distinct, allowing conversations to flow easily from one character to the next without confusion.  I thought the plot was excellent. I enjoyed following Erin as she discovered that she was unbounded and what that truly meant, discovering her new self and her origins. I was drawn in by the action packed altercations with the Emporium and the Hunters. Erin’s connection to her family was endearing and her attraction to Ritter was definitely amusing.   I am giving this book 3 stars; I thought it was fairly well written, outside of a few inconsistencies within the sentence structure and flow of the story, I really enjoyed this book. I think that Teyla has a great deal of talent and with time and experience can be a great Young Adult Paranormal author. I am looking forward to reading the sequels, I am anxious to see where the story eventually leads!

I really enjoyed this book. Fast action, a little romance, no bad language and no explicit sex.

Well written, engrossing, great plot, well rounded characters. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I hope there are many more. A complete story in itself yet leaving plenty of room for future additions. I highly recommend.

Although, at times, I thought this was more for the younger readers, I did enjoy this book. I will look forward to reading the seqels, now that I am hooked.

I really enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down and have read book 2 starting on book 3. I found the story like to be a nice change from vampires and zombies. It is fresh and believable. I don't watch for grammar as some reviewers apparently do but I do often catch inconsistencies in story lines even with some well known authors. I did not pick up on any in these books. The story is consistent and moves well without getting hung up on lengthy descriptions. I am impressed and will definitely add her name to my list of authors to watch. I would without hesitation recommend this series.

I enjoyed reading this book. I was surprised at the details that only a woman would be able to deliver. Well written and I intend on continuing to read more from this author as well as the sequels.
