Chaplain: Sacrifice for Love

I must warn the readers that this book contains some very difficult subjects that may be difficult to some to read. For example, rape, PTSD, anxiety attacks, abortions, self-mutilations, child out of rape, etc.
A religious man. A scarred woman. Both have their faith tested.
When Chaplain Linkin Garland, receives a phone call to help a woman who was raped, beaten, and stabbed, he can't help but say "yes." There is something about her that draws him in. There is a spiritual connection but also a chemistry that he can't explain.
Pain...Fear...Mistrust...

Words that sum up Sophia Rhinehart's life.
Having survived a horrific abuse from her military boyfriend who she thought loved her more than life, she needs to learn to live again.
With each passing day the nightmares get worse. Sophia wants help but refuses to let anyone in. Until Chaplain Linkin shows up "at her mother's home."
Slowly, Linkin gets her to trust him, but will his secret destroy her frail progress?
In the end, will their journey connect them both spiritually or will it destroy them both?

Chapter 1

Sophia

“She’s coding; I need the AED. Now!” A male voice hollers out…

“Beep! Beep!” What is that noise?

I’m trying to open my eyes, but they’re so heavy. My body is being lifted and, now, placed on something cool. OUCH! I feel a shock on my chest, spreading throughout my body. I am freezing and in pain. Why am I so cold?

Where am I?

Another male voice speaks, “Dr. Whitest, and back. Everyone stand back.”

I feel another shock. The pain radiates through my chest to my back. I let out a big gasp of air. My heart is racing. I try to move, but something is laying across my thighs.

“Quick, operating room. Now. Call down; have her prepared for surgery. She is…not going to die on my watch,” another voice says.

I feel myself being lifted again then placed on something soft. A hand pulls back my head and places some kind of object down my throat. It makes me gag.

I try, once more, to open my eyes, but they’re too heavy. I want to know what is going on. Something is being laid across my body then tighten.

Hello? I want to know what is going on here. Why can’t you let me up?

“All right, team, I’ve tightened the straps on the bed, and we’re bringing her to the OR. Let’s make sure we don’t collide or hit anything on the way. Got it?”

I can hear so many different voices around me. The pain is really bad; I feel like someone is stabbing me in my stomach.

“Oh my god, my baby! Sophia, Sophia, can you hear me?”

That’s my mother’s voice.

“Ma’am, you need to move out of our way.”

“Callie,” a male voice appears near me. “Take Mrs. Rhinehart to the OR waiting room. We’ll keep you updated.”

Okay, I am a little worried now. I can hear the panic in my mom’s voice. All I remember is sitting on the couch with Brad and watching Scream.

I remember dozing off and waking up to a crashing sound coming from my bathroom. I got up and hollered for Brad, but he never answered me back.

The drilling pain in my head wakes me up. My body feels like someone ran over me. I open my eyes slightly. Finally. My head is pounding. I reach up to touch it, but a hand grabs my arm and brings it back down.

“Hey, honey!” my mother says, leaning over and in my field of vision.
