About The Author
O. Henry was an American writer whose real name was William Sydney Porter. Many of his short stories, such as, "The Ransom of Red Chief," have appeared in antholgies and, as many of you probably recall, in high school Literature books. He tried several careers, including banking, before he became a serious writer and gave us some of the best-loved short stories of all time. He was born in 1862 in Greensborough, NC and died in New York City in 1910 at the young age of 47.
