Tethan is the son of the chief of the Skybear Onei. When his father discovers a map to the greatest treasure in the world, Tethan tries to talk sense to him. The treasure is too far away in the lands of the Eternal Council, lands no one of their clan has ever visited, with dangers they do not understand.
Gartan doesn't care about danger. He imagines the bards singing his name for years to come as the greatest Onei warrior of all time. After Tethan comes up with the idea to attack the biggest empire of the south to steal their ships to make the crossing, Gartan's biggest problem is that the other clans want to join in and steal some of his glory.
With two empires' armies and magical beasts and monsters before them, the only glory they're assured of is that of a glorious death.
