The Element Series by Brandon Montgomery

The Element Series is an action-packed trilogy comprised of a gripping, three-segment saga that will leave readers anxious to see what's next. The Elements are diamond-shaped crystals that enhance the natural abilities of each wielder to an extreme level. There are, however, four elements that are exceptions to the rule.

The leader of the Elemental Users Response Team (E.U.R.T.) is a man by the name of Socrates Meridius. Among Socrates' many powers is his unique sensing ability, which allows him to detect and recruit members for his elite team of righteous and honorable Element wielders. The leader of Team X, E.U.R.T.'s nemesis, is Charles Landenburg, who calls himself X. X recruits other Element wielders for his own selfish benefit and personal gain. The opposing teams mobilize for a legendary battle between good and evil, and, alas, the victor can only be determined by blood.

This is a very exciting read! I must admit, I am not usually one to read this type of novel, but this one has it all--romance, excitement, and chaos! Montgomery manages to incorporate all of the good stuff without being lax or going overboard with any of those components, which seems to be a difficult feat for many authors. And the characters are awesome; you find yourself relating with each of them, even the "bad guys." Not only is it a wonderfully intriguing read, but the historical, cultural and geographical aspects are very accurate and I actually learned quite a few things. You know a book is great when you start it with the intention of only reading it bit-by-bit in your spare moments but end up finishing it the same day because you couldn't put it down, and that's exactly what happened when I read the Elements! I can't wait until the second part of the trilogy comes out!!

I am always on the look out for something new and exciting. I can honestly say that this novel satisfied both of those requirements and then some. Anyone who loves action and characters, this is the book for you. The plot of this story is that a handful of people from different walks of life, give them superpowers, pin them against each other, and then let the chips fall where they may. Even though the characters of this novel are given powers, none of them seem overly-powerful. Friendships and families are torn apart by the lustful promise of power and wealth which makes this story strike close to home. The main characters Shogan, Shishini, Tim, Tyrone, Mercedes, Claude, X, and Socrates are all very interesting in their own right. Tim is young and it shows throughout the novel which can make him annoying, but I think Tim was really depicted well. Socrates is what you would expect out of a leader of good, even though it is obvious that he has his own agenda. X, on the side of evil, is more of a manipulator than a hands on villain. The character relationships in this book take center-stage over the plot. How they interact with each other really influences the story as a whole. Pros: Action, characters, pacing, quick read, great cliffhanger. Cons: Plot is rather basic (good vs. evil) and not much more to it Descriptions on scenes could have been a little more detailed. Bottom line: There's a lot to enjoy here. This is a great read! I highly anticipate part 2 and am curious to the direction the author takes with the series.

This book does not contain an elaborate plot. Basically, it is a battle between good and evil. But that simple fact doesn't stop this novel from being enjoyable. If you are able to go along with that, then there is a lot to enjoy here. This book has a unique way of introducing each of the main characters. Instead of having them introduced by happensstance, they each are given their own individual chapter so you can get to know them. This is a refreshing way to go about this because you are given the opportunity to find out who the major players are. The downside to this is if you do not like the characters, there is a chance you won't finish. However, most of them are likeable. They all come from different walks of life, so some may be more relatable than others. The actions the characters take define this book. Action is constant and very exciting. Each of the characters have super powers and they spar no exspense in the times that they fight. I found it interesting that it was easy to detect the progression with their powers and when they have their epic battle at the end, they go all out! The end had a great cliff hanger. Recommendation: If you enjoy action, characterzation, and have a great imagniation, then this book is for you.

This novel is exciting and a page turner. From chapter one, this book grabs you and doesn't let go! The characters are dynamic and diverse making this novel feel real. The action was non-stop and greatly detailed. This is a remarkable debut and I look forward to the next installment in this series. "The Awakening" takes place (mostly) in downtown Los Angeles. Each character is introduced in their own unique chapter dedicated to them so you get to know them and their flaws. The dynamics of the characters is one of the strengths of this novel. Their personalities are distinct and stand out because their actions give you insight more so than narration would. Their flaws cause havoc on top of the problem at hand. After the lines are drawn between the two perspective sides, they have an epic slug-fest! The characters are interesting and I found myself laughing out loud as I read. The comedy seems more situation than intended, but it made me laugh nevertheless. The action is explosive and over the top which made this book fun, especially Claude Simpson with his Fighter's Techniques. You will enjoy this book, don't miss out on this one!

The thing I found most interesting about this novel is the characterization. They are each clearly identifiable by their actions and their actions are used to define them, not exposition or narration. Their motivations are varied which helps make them interesting. They all get sucked into the plot one one or another. Given that they all come from different walks of life, its adds a sense of random encounters to this piece. Montgomery really did a nice job with the characters in this novel. Even though the action was great and sometimes over the top (which is meant as a compliment), the characters are what kept me coming back. There is a steadyline of progression with their skills so they don't become all powerful, but it's still easy to see their strength grow with time. I like how Montgomery ephasizes particular parts in a scene that are very important. Its almost as if Montgomery will slow down time so you can really understand how a character is feeling (a good example of this is at the end of chapter one). If you love deep characters, action, and a quick read, this novel is for you.

I'm not a reviewer, but I have to say how much I enjoyed this book. This book is fast paced and by the end of chapter one, you have to know how things are going to turn out. This book has epic fight scenes, is fast paced, and has unforgetable characters. *SPOILER* This book has two samurai that can block bullets (one of which is a woman, Shishini, who is an amazing character), a man that can control water, a man that can control earth, a woman who can summor prehistorical creatures and more! This book is fun. Buy it, read it, and try not to finish it in one day!

Shishini is a facinating character. She is a scene stealer everytime she is mentioned. She is everything you want out of a strong character. It is nice and refreshing to have a strong female lead in a novel like this, especially from a male author.

It would be a shame if this book flew under the radar because this author is new. Montgomery has told a very compelling story that interlocks action, character development, and a sense of morality that does not beat you over the head with the message. This novel takes place in modern Los Angeles where a group of people have been bestowed with giant diamonds known as "Elements". These elements are not the four elements of water, earth, wind, and fire, but they fuse with the selected individuals and gives them powers related to their own individual skill sets. Afterwards, according to their own morality, they join either the Element Users Response Team (E.U.R.T.) or Team X. E.U.R.T. is the side that fights for good and Team X fights for evil and selfish reasons. Things get complicated as the members of E.U.R.T. do not always agree not to mention that both sides have strong ties with each other. Tensions collide and things get insane in the climatic fight in the end of the novel for a finish that will leave you satisfied. Seriously, a lot of imagination went into this novel. There is something special here. Read this book, you won't be disappointed!

This book is exciting and grips you from chapter one. It could have used a little more desrciption in some areas, but you would expect this from a first time novelist. This book blends action and character development well. It has a budding romance that is created, but Montgomery does not allow the romance to take center-stage which is a relief. Montgomery focuses more on character actions and how their actions ultimately determine their fate. A great deal of though went into this novel and it is a quick read. It is hard to put this novel down. I'm impatiently waiting for book two's release!

This is a rare type of novel. It's fun but has substance, has style but is not too flashy, action that you can visualize, and characters that you won't be forgetting anytime soon. I ran into this book and purchased it on a whim and it was money well spent! I'm always on the lookout for new authors as they can promise you something new. This novel is something new and I haven't run into anything like it before. Trust me when I tell you, buy this book and you will enjoy it, GUARANTEED!!!

I'm not a reviewer, so I'm not sure how to format this, but I just wanted to state my reaction to this novel. It simply blew me away! It's a page turner and a easy read. You won't want to put it down. Don't let this one pass you by!

I thoroughly enjoyed the book from the first paragraph to the last sentence. The Awakening is a well written mixture of adventure and intrigue, filled with exciting turns of plot and populated by a most unusual cast of characters. From the highly skilled martial artists, Shishini and Shogan Togasan to the funny and incorrigible Tyrone to the wise and experienced Socrates, The Awakening brings out the imagination and adventure resident within any "grown-up kid".

The novel is a quick read and you won't be bored reading it. It's face paced and the characters are fun. The best part about this piece is the action. If you love action, this is the book for you. My biggest complaint is that I wish Montgomery would have made this novel a little longer because he could have fleshed out the motivations for the villians a little bit more. Claude and Shogan are interesting, but they are not in the novel as much as I would of liked.

This book is pure entertainment! You have action, chaos, fun and diverse characters, and a balance of real life. I'm not going to lie, I had a lot of fun reading this book. Putting it down was nearly impossible. The plot was a basic good vs evil bit so I had to give it 4 out of 5. Even so, the rather simple plot didn't keep this book from being engaging. Simple put, read this book and enjoy!
