What can I not say about The Elusive Highlander? It’s a very well written book, filled with magic and romance. It has a strong historical theme, a bit of time travel and passionate romantic scenes. Alasdair and Coira’s romance is not the usual love-at-first-sight kind. It’s a love story which builds by layers, a piece at a time, cumulating in a passionate love story, stronger and more believable than one which the hero and heroine fall in love at first sight. The author begins the story in Manhattan and ends it in the Scottish Highlands. I love the way each character is well-developed and that although the hero is a strong alpha male, the female heroine, Coira can hold her own. She gives as good as she gets. As a couple, they were well matched. The tension between the two had me turning the pages quickly; to find out what these two strong willed-characters are up to next. It speaks to the author’s writing that I was not disappointed when they finally came together. Brilliant writing! Highly recommend!

ARC generously provided by author in exchange for my honest review: Whew! Haven't picked up a good old-fashioned bodice ripper in some time. This one did not disappoint. Coira finds herself suddenly transported to a castle in 14th century Scotland. The Laird is Alasdair, who she just had a business meeting with in present-day Manhattan. This magical dilemma has Coira out of sorts, understandably (no matter how hot the Laird is). Ephraime is true to the historical elements of the period, even in dialect. And I’m a sucker for men with accents. Swoon-worthy historical romance, with a lot of devotion to the details of the era. As a slow burn junkie, I must also add that I loved that we had to wait for Coira to adjust to her circumstances before she develops the connection with Alasdair. The sexual tension was so good and so maddening! If you like steamy historical romance, this book is definitely for you!

3.5 stars Where oh where to start? "The Elusive Highlander" is a quick, enjoyable lost-in-time romance. If I weren't already such a huge fan of other, similarly themed tales (most notably the entire Highlander series by the indomitable Karen Marie Moning), this one may have rated even higher... but it was impossible for me not to make comparisons. I enjoyed Ju Ephraime's style and tone. Coira's confusion at finding herself suddenly in 14th century Scotland was palpable. However, there were a few inconsistencies that jarred me early and stuck with me through the rest of the story. While learning about Coira's past and family we're told her mother died in a car accident, then later she was sick and died in bed, then we came back to it being an accident. Also, it felt to me like Alasdair's curse and immortality were never fully explained and kind of left dangling. He even promised to tell Coira more about his abilities (I for one would've loved to experience her reaction when learning he is a wolf berserker) but he never spilled the beans. That was a story element that either could've been expanded upon or left out entirely. All in all, though, these were easily overlooked and forgiven in the scheme of things. The attraction and tension between Coira & Alasdair was well written and maintained. As a fish out of water, Coira's ability to adapt to her surroundings was believably portrayed. I also liked the author's narrative use of real historical events and battles to explain some of her character's motivations. Lots of history woven into this romance! If you enjoy kilted warriors and historical romance, I'd venture you'll enjoy this escape! I received a copy of this book from the author, which I then chose to voluntarily review.

Reviewed by Melinda Hills for Readers' Favorite Coira Ainsley, beautiful, confident account representative for a high end travel company, steps into the office of the man whose business her firm has been seeking, and ends up in 14th century Scotland in The Elusive Highlander by Ju Ephraime. Sensing that the gorgeous Scottish warrior may in fact be the same man she followed into that Manhattan office, Coira is immediately on guard and demands to return to her time and place. Alasdair Campbell is unable to help, however, because he is the victim of a Druid spell that has caused him to wander the world for centuries, unsure of how to change his own circumstances. Fighting an instant attraction, Coira tries to understand her place in Alasdair’s life as he prepares for a major battle against England, trying to bring recognition to his King. When it is obvious that there is nothing to do but go along with fate, Coira succumbs to her desires and marries the Laird with some amazing results! Popular writer Ju Ephraime has recreated the beauty and intensity of the Scottish Highlands and its people in The Elusive Highlander, and brought a love story spanning centuries to life. Deep emotion and daring intimacy are only part of what Coira and Alasdair share as the lively action recounts some of the historical truth of early Scottish history. With added touches of legend and Highland magic, Coira and Alasdair share passion and complete devotion to one another while starting a new life together. Beautifully written and heart-warming, The Elusive Highlander is a story sure to warm up your emotions. Enjoyable and entertaining!

The Elusive Highlander is a heroine's hero. The cover picture captures Alasdair perfectly--yummy he-man and perfect lover. At first, Coira is bewildered by her experience of dropping from 21st C. Manhattan into the 12th century Scotland. She shows some resentment toward the Laird. However, she soon falls for him and adapts to her circumstances, pining away for him while he swashbuckles against neighboring clans and fights the English. Recommended for lovers of time-travel, magic, and historical romance.

What an exceptional storyline. The Elusive Highlander is magical and captivating. The main character Alasdair, is very well described and you hope the best for him…with Coira's help…to secure their future together. I felt as though I were back in time in Scotland, visiting the beautiful Inveraray Castle. I'm not one to give out spoilers, but this unique well-woven tale held my interest and I give author Ju Ephraime high marks!
