The Ethics of Dynamite

The Ethics of Dynamite, first published in 1894, is a remarkable book. Libertarian Auberon Herbert, a former member of the British parliament, argues that the bomb-throwing terrorists of his time were just the ne plus ultra of government. Government itself, even if milder, lives by coercion, that is, by the ethics of dynamite. He also warns his contemporaries against the danger of responding to terrorists by further increasing the powers of government.
