Overview

Rivalry, romance, and scandal run hot in this Wicked Wallflowers novel from USA Today bestselling author Christi Caldwell.

Regina (Reggie) Spark has loved Broderick Killoran, the resourceful and protective proprietor of the Devil’s Den, ever since he saved her from the streets and made her his right hand at the notorious gaming hell. For just as long, Reggie has never admitted her true feelings for him. Nor has she revealed her spirited ambitions—to buck convention and expectations and open a music hall.

While Broderick built his gaming empire with ruthless cunning, his loyalty to his employees is boundless. So when he learns of Reggie’s plan to leave his side and take charge of her own future, the betrayal cuts Broderick to the core. He responds as he would to any business rival…with swift retribution.

Instead of wilting, the savvy Reggie rebounds with a fury that shocks Broderick and stirs a desire he’s been holding in reserve for only ladies of nobility. But as their seductive battle of wills ignites under the harsh spotlight of the London Season, secrets are exposed as well—ones that could be ruinous in decent society but invaluable for the heart.

Oh, I so looked forward to Broderick’s story and that it was with Regina, a woman he never truly saw till it was almost too late, made it priceless and perfect and so romantic.  I loved their relationship, their story, their highs and lows, and everything about the story.  Broderick has tried to marry his sisters off since book one, in the misguided guise of finding them protection, though they believe (and he let them believe) it is to earn him a connection to the ton. Now, it is his turn, though it does start off with him trying to marry Gertrude off to someone in the ton, he quickly comes to realize, thanks to Regina, that he can't ruin his sister's chance at finding real happiness. I loved the story, start to finish; the only native was I wish there had been an epilogue.  I wanted more from them. :-)  Great story and I can’t wait till Gertrude’s story next.

Three of my favorite tropes in one! friends to lovers, rags to riches, and my all-time favorite a redeemed bad boy. These two will keep you on the edge of your seat with the back and forth and you wonder if they will kiss or not. They are two stubborn people going to battle and neither one wants to open up. I loved when Reggie’s secret came out and how Brodrick reacted. My heart almost dropped when he went to the opera because I thought he was going to listen to his sister. Reggie will not let her secret ruin the family or let Brodrick control her life. I loved her from the start because she won’t give up or run from anything. She had a heart of gold and slowly everyone saw why she was trying to leave. Brodrick melts my heart. We’ve gotten to know him a bit from the other books, but this time his story really comes out. He is stubborn to the core, but when kissed her that first time I knew his walls were coming down. I loved when he told his story. Little Stephen breaks my heart in this one. He is struggling so much and taking it out on everyone at every chance. I loved seeing more of his story and hope he one day gets his own book. Copy provided for an honest and voluntary review

I enjoyed this well-written historical romance. Regina (Reggie) Spark has been loyal to Broderick Killoran ever since he saved her from the streets and made her right hand at his business, The Devil's Den. Now she has a dream to start her own business, a music hall, and offer employment to women. When Broderick discovers she plans to leave he feels betrayed and they begin a battle of wills. This book can be read as a standalone story, though it is #3 in the Wicked Wallflowers series. This was an entertaining book and I look forward to reading more books in this series as well as others by this author.

The Governess by Christi Caldwell Wicked Wallflower Series Book Three Regina “Reggie” Spark has been in the background often. She took care of the Killoran girls and Stephen. Almost family...but not. Reggie's been hanging on to a secret for the ten years she's been around Broderick—she's been in love with him. Now, it's time to move on. She just needs to get everything in order and tell them. Broderick Killoran has always seemed so dark and uncaring...not to his brother and sisters. He may be a dark, cold gambling hell owner but he is not his father. He doesn't go around taking advantage of those who work for him. He also is unforgiving if any of those people betray him in any way. I loved this story. Broderick has been mentioned in so many stories and it was wonderful “getting into his head” and seeing how he thinks...and cares. **Sexual content and language **Received through NetGalley for an honest review

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for fair review. The Governess is the 3rd book in Christi Caldwell’s Wicked Wallflowers Series. You do need to read the other books as characters and plot points continue from the previous novels. Even though I have read the first two novel in this series I found the first couple of chapters confusing but it’s worth persevering as it does get better. Regina Spark has been in love with Broderick Killoran for the 10 years she’s served as his right hand at the Devil’s Den the gaming hell he owns. She decides that her unrequited feelings make it too painful to remain and makes plans to create a new life for herself. Broderick sees these plans as a betrayal at a time when his pigeons coming home to roost and blackmails her into serving as his sisters companion during the season which is the last thing she wants to do. I found this an enjoyable read with medium steam and lots of angst. Publishing Date February 12, 2019 #NetGalley #TheGoverness #ChristiCaldwell #MontlakeRomance

All I can say is "WOW"!!! I love every book by Christi Caldwell and this is definitely no exception. I was amazed st every turn of this book. Broderick & Regina, along with the "family" will grab your heart and make you think. While this book is set in history, Christi Caldwell tackles issues that are even front and center in this day and age.My emotions are still a bit raw but I don't think I can ever love a book more!! Most definitely a 5 star review (I wish I could give it 10 stars!!!)

The Governess snags the heart and reels it in with a love story of epic proportions between two people that are not of the nobility. Two commoners as leading characters is a rarity in itself in the Regency Romance world but these leading characters are anything but common. Broderick earns his reputation through ruthlessness and calculated precision but underneath the tarnish is a heart of gold. He saves those who cannot save themselves in the Dials, a survivor who makes others survivors. Reggie suffered an abusive past and came out stronger for it and is the only one who dares take the beast on in his lair. Bold and honest, Reggie is Broderick's best friend who tells him the truth and is totally, helplessly in love with him. When Reggie's bid for independence sets her at odds with Broderick, his cold ruthlessness forces Reggie to his will. The nobility hang as a threat over both their heads and their stubbornness overflows in abundance. As their love story unfolds, I found myself much in sympathy with Reggie and sighing in the corner over the strong, flawed hero. The HEA comes as a hard won victory but how else could victory be as sweet unless its fought for. The Governess is a heart string tugging, encompassing read that will leave you longing for more from the author. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.

The Governess by Christi Caldwell Wicked Wallflowers #3 As 1am nears I write this review for a book I could not put down. Immersing myself in the story I felt with the characters wanting them to find a way to a happy ending that they all so justly deserved. So much happened in this book and the story was so well crafted that I felt I was not just reading but actually part of the group if only on the fringes. What I liked: * Regina’s strength of will and ability to give of herself * Broderick’s love of his family and desire to see them safe even though he felt his future was bleak * Broderick’s family...or those he called his family: three sisters and a brother each with a story of their own * The way that Broderick came to realize how much he cared for Regina * The strong ties and caring shown throughout this book * The way the baddies got their comeuppance and evil was thwarted * The feel-good vibes and happy smile I had on my face at the end of the book. I am not going to tell you the story – the author did a brilliant job of doing just that. I have not read a book by this author before but eagerly wait to find another as soon as possible. AND...I wonder who will be next in the series and think it is probably going to be Gertrude. Who will she end up with and will we see more of Stephen and how he is doing in book four? I hope so. I even had the wild idea that perhaps Lord Maddock and Gertrude might end up together? Hmm... Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Romance for the ARC- This is my honest review. 5 Stars

As always, Christie delivers a story with imperfect characters that find their way to redemption done with an amazing story full of twists and turns. On each book, I fall in love with the hero and feel they are my favorite, then another comes along and I love them even more! Yes, I guess I am fickle! Broderick Killoran, is the owner of the Devil's Den and gaming empire who has fought his way up to success. Reggie Spark has been his right hand and governess to his "siblings" since he saved her from the streets over 10 years ago. Oh, and she has been in love with him ever since but he has not acted on her feelings. When she decides to start a business of her own because she cannot take the pain of being around him all the time, Broderick feels betrayed. Of course what seems true is not always exactly correct and he negotiates a deal with her. But everyone has secrets and Reggie is no exception and as they maneuver through the truth a lot comes to light. I was captured by these two characters and the strong emotions that this author is famous for with detail and their road to happiness. Do not miss this book or any by this author. You will be thanking me later. I read this through NetGallery. Lori Dykes

The Governess by Christi Caldwell is book Three in the Wicked Wallflowers Series. This is the story of Broderick Killoran and Regina (Reggie) Spark. I have read the previous books (and Loved them!) but feel if you wish to do so you can make this a standalone book. Kids on the street of Seven Dials were taken in by Diggory who by all accounts was a truly awful person...luckily he is dead. But those kids turned into family and help each other when they could. Broderick stood up to take in and protect his fellow street family and has been ruthless in business keep things going. Reggie was one he had taken in and she has been his partner in running the Devil’s Den. But now she is looking to go out on her own to open a music hall. This upsets Broderick who starts to feel betrayed but at the same time it starts to open his eyes to Reggie. Reggie has always loved Broderick but can this bring them together or pull them apart? I am such a mega fan of Ms. Caldwell's writing. Ms. Caldwell's books take you on a emotional roller coaster ride from happy to sad to love. Loved this book!

Regina Spark or Reggie has had a hard life. After she was saved from the streets by Broderick, her life gets better. Broderick Killoran owns the Devil's Den, a popular gaming hell. Regina has become Broderick's best friend and assistant at the Den. She has loved Broderick for always, but knows that he never sees her as a woman, more like a sister. He is her protector and she is loyal to him. Broderick doesn't know that Reggie has plans of her own, she wants to open a music hall. Broderick and his employees are are loyal to each other. The day that Broderick realizes that Reggie is a woman, a beautiful woman, he is lost. When she leaves, will he find her? Someone with the intent to kill is after him. There's a story inside this story and I love the way everything came together. I received this book from Net Galley and Montlake Romance for a honest review. The opinions are my own.

Wow this book had so much drama. I cried and laughed and got angry as all get out a times. I so enjoyed this story about Broderick and Regina and how they helped and healed those they loved. I loved Regina’s sprite ,it forces Broderick to see what he has not.

It was great to read Reggie and Broderick’s story. I would have liked to have seen how Reggie develops her music hall. What happens to the evil Lord Oliver? What happens to Stephen? I guess that will be addressed in future stories!

I loved Reggie and Broderick's story!! Reggie has been in love with Broderick for years. Her heart just can't take seeing him every day and knowing that he sees her as another one of his sisters. Reggie has decided to go out on her own and open a music hall. When Broderick learns of her plans, he sees it as her being a traitor to the family and vows to make her pay. Reggie is furious that Broderick would interfere with her plans to make a life for herself and pushes back. Broderick starts to wonder if he has ever really known Reggie. Who is this woman that is suddenly impossible to ignore? I loved watching these two together! I loved that Reggie pushed back at Broderick's antics and didn't allow him to walk all over her. These two were perfect for each other!! I'm so excited for Gertrude and Lord Edwin's story which is up next!!

We finally get Broderick's story! I loved finding out who he really was and why. Reggie was his perfect other half. Watching him in action with Reggie and how he learns to open up to his family brought tears to my eyes! (Actually had me bawling, you'll see why about 3/4 of the way in!) Reggie has her own ghosts to deal with and when Broderick finds out about them, his response is telling! I can't wait to see what happens to Gertrude, as the last sister, in her search for love! Thank you for the advanced copy, the emotion this story contained was amazing!

The Governess: When we first met Broderick Killoren I never thought he could be a hero deserving of a happy ever after but the genius that is Christi Caldwell has done it. This is book 3 in her Wicked Wallflowers series, Broderick has tried desperately to marry his beloved sisters to noblemen. Although the Killorens are not related by blood their bond is stronger due to the shared life on the harsh streets of the seven dials. With 2 sisters married he now sets his sights on Gertrude, eldest partially blind, kindest sister. While this is going on there is the threat from Stephens father, who we found out in book 2 is the Mad Marquess, he wants revenge on the Killorens. Broderick wants to see his sisters settled before he’s made to pay for the crimes of Mac Diggory. Who could be Broderick’s heroine? His right hand Regina “Reggie” Spark of course, but things are never that easy! Reggie has loved Broderick since he saved her 10 years ago. She believes that he will never love her in return & feels leaving is the her only option. So with her new partner, Clara, she plans to open her own establishment. As you can imagine this leads to feeling of betrayal and hurt. Eventually they find each other and resolve the problems to have their happy ever after. I have loved this whole series, it’s darker and grittier. The heroes and heroines are far from perfect, like many of us in life. I feel by shying away from neat and tidy Christi has written a series of book that are real and believable. You feel the emotions of these characters, root for them through their struggles and ultimately rejoice with them when they find their HEA. To me Christi is the best regency writer around and I cannot recommend this and all her books enough.

I read "The Vixen", the previous book in the Wicked Wallflowers series, and I loved it. My, did I cry my eyes out! Even knowing what that book did to me, I read this one on Sunday evening, understanding I had to go to work the next day. Let me tell you, I should have learned. But noooooo, not me. I looked positively horrifying this morning, my eyes all red and puffy from once again sobbing over a Christi Caldwell book. That woman can write heartbreaking, hot and heartfelt stories like nobody's business. Broderick saved Reggie from the streets years ago. They became best friends, and Reggie was invaluable to Broderick with his business dealings. However, her feelings for him surpassed friendship, and she decided to leave and open up a music hall. When Broderick discovered her plans, to say he was not pleased would be an understatement! These two were such fascinating characters. Broderick was ruthless regarding his club's business, but also in taking care of his "siblings" he saved from the streets. Reggie had a mysterious and heartbreaking past. When they allowed their attraction to ignite, ooh la la! Though this book could stand alone, I highly recommend reading the first two books before this one. Characters and storylines from those books were integral parts of this one. All of Broderick's siblings were extremely interesting, and I loved them all. You truly won't want to miss any of this series, especially this one; Broderick is the glue that holds this unique family together. And remember my warning: You WILL cry! I received an ARC of this book courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley. I received no compensation for my review, and all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

I was so anxious to read Roderick and Regina's story and I wasn't disappointed! This is not your typical lighthearted historical romance, this involves the dark and gritty underworld of London's Seven Dials. Roderick is not your typical hero....he has survived living on the streets by stealing, killing and working for the Diggory gang. He now owns a gambling hell and supports his brother and sisters, none of whom share the same blood but are actually victims/orphans that he saved from the streets of Seven Dials and took under his protection. Regina is another one that he saved and in the 10 years since, she has become a trusted friend and confidante. Regina, however, has been in love with him for years and decides she needs to get away and start her own life. What follows is a lot of misunderstandings and angst and all the while, Roderick's life is being threatened. From the first to the last page, the story kept my interest. Highly recommend this third book in the Wicked Wallflowers series!! I was given a free copy of this book from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.
