The only thing more formidable than an advanced super soldier is the man who tames her. Jax is a handler, a man tasked with the most dangerous job in the world - keeping genetically engineered ultra soldiers under control. He does his job very, very well through a combination of natural strength, some synthetic implants, and an iron hard approach to discipline.
Sonya is an ultra soldier, a talented young woman with a bratty streak a mile wide. Unfortunately for Sonya, her old handler just died and she doesn't like the new one very much at all. Jax is a strong believer in long hard spankings as a consequence for bad behavior, and Sonya is a believer in getting away with damn near everything.
The grieving young woman and her new master clash in a series of erotically charged confrontations during which Jax makes it abundantly clear that she is his in every way possible. He takes her pride, her arrogance and even her virginity.
But an ultra soldier is made for war, and when Sonya is called to the front, she goes gladly, having no idea that she is being sent on a suicide mission.
Jax knows better, but is powerless to save her from her fate - or is he?
For Jax to save Sonya, he will have to go to the ends of the earth and the gates of hell. And for Sonya to survive, she's going to have to learn that there's more to life than rebellion and war.
THE HANDLER is a fast paced, erotic action romance containing scenes of spanking, anal play, medical play and more.

$5 for less than 85 pages . For shame. People work hard for their money and expect a fair trade for every dollar. This purchase was not a fair trade.
This was a very good novella. It is set in the future, Sonya is an ultra soldier. She was created to be better than any human. Jax takes over her care when her original handler Edward dies. Sonya is having hard time dealing with Edward's death and wants nothing to do with Jax. Fortunately, for her, he doesn't care. He moves forward with her training and introduces her to sex. But, the government sends her to the front to fight and die. Jax saves her, but at high cost to them both. I really enjoyed this novella, but I do wish the conclusion had been a little longer. I would have enjoyed more details. I give this 5 stars.
I loved everything about this story. I loved the Sci-Fi element. It was well written and full of emotion. It's about Jax and Sonya's growing relationship. Sonya had to work through her grief and get over the fear of loving again but even so she still manages to be saucy and playful in her defiance with Jax. Jax understood this though he couldn't let her walk all over him. He was firm but kind and loving. It was well done
I really enjoyed this book. Jax observed Sonya for about a year although she was not aware of it. He fell for her but when they met she was mourning the loss of her old handler and willing herself to die. Clearly she could feel emotions but her developing feelings for Jax were obscured by her grief and determination to be a soldier. Sonya was sent to the front line to clear the way for newer versions of the ultra soldiers and was not expected to return alive. Jax managed to recover her and there is a happy ending. I don't think he quite went "to the gates of hell" but he certainly sacrificed a lot for her. Very well written.
I read every book that Loki Renard writes, I don't need to read the synopsis, they are always an automatic read for me. I am never disappointed. Ms. Renard has a way with detail that enables me to imagine what I 'm reading, she always has female heroines that are strong and have a sense of humor, and there is always a plot that keeps me intrigued and reading. This book was exactly that! I could really feel for Sonya and what she was experiencing and Jax earned my respect by not giving up and going for what he wanted. I have to say my favorite line in the entire book was Sonya saying "One, sir, at the end" I swear it just puts the icing on the cake of the humor I always find in this author's books :)
