Did you know there was a Pacific Coast Women’s Press Association way back in 1896? I didn’t. The Heart You Need is a voyage back to San Francisco in its early days, as well as a peek into its rougher corners. Threat and danger are there too, but also an absolutely delicious hero. Sigh.
This was an excellent story. It had rich character development - the inner thoughts of the hero and heroine were especially well done. There was a compelling murder mystery woven into the work, which, when coupled with two kidnappings, kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. The author did a wonderful job weaving her historical research about old San Francisco into her tale, and I enjoyed seeing the city through the eyes of Linnie and Alec. Their sensual love scenes were perfect and spoke of burgeoning love and a shared hope for a happy future. Five stars!
